FEC Key West extension modern day

That's a question that a lot of people are asking.

Use Key word "NASA" in the search, and read the discussion thread "Where No Train Has Gone Before." You will view some amazing space related items created by this group's talented Content Creators.

I am looking forward to all of them myself.

Richard

Wow! Is that Gemini capsule available anywhere? :udrool:

Great job Nikos. I'm checking it out in a minute. I couldn't remember what version you made this for . Was it for 06?

Bill

Ps... never mind. I loaded it and looked. This route is build 2.6. For TRS2006 with SP1 installed.

Key West Xtn.

Hi!

This may be a bit to large for you, but could you possibly move it up towards Miami? Then I'd be able to run my Tri-rail sets up and down there!

Cheers! Isaac Grove

Nikos, where did you get the streets? In particular the nice curb setup? I need something similar for my Voodoo route, but I've not found anything on the DLS that really fits the bill.

O.K. Nikos; I must be doing something wrong.

I unzipped the file that you listed, and downloaded the others mentioned in the read me file.

The content manager fiound one CDP for the file you listed. It listed the route on both the Content Manager and in Surveyor, plus it listed about 400 dependancies for me to download "Oh Boy!"

But when I tryed to run your KWE in Surveyor it says that I have not selected a map even though the route was highlighted.

I am looking forward to getting it working. Any suggestions?

Richard

Huh thats strange, you are using 06 SP1 right?
ill need to get some others to check that out, i was having some issues like that earlier but i thought i fixed them.

You were exactly right!

I had some sort of crash a while back and had to reload Trainz. I did not reinstall Service Pack One.

After a proper reinstall, your KWE route appears fine, except for those 74 content items that can not be found on the Download Station.

Do you know where might I find them?

After a little tour around the property, this route looks like it is going to turn out GREAT!

Many Thanks For The Preview!

Richard

Glad you got that sorted out Richard,
have you read the readme with the download locations for the non DLS assets?
if you have gotten all the stuff from the readme post a list and ill try and get that sorted out for you.

Last night, I took train 208 on a test run out of Key West with a consist of empty ortner hopper cars.

I was expecting a quick shift heading north; but instead ended up traveling for hours.

KUDOS NIKOS1!

I was expecting the mainline to travel only as far as the scenes we have seen samples of so far. Instead you have the mainline running the entire distance.

True, I was operating a bucking bronco at a few remote spots, and my conductor and I were spitting out sand when our train went underground at one point; but we made it through.

Unless a person has placed over a hundred miles of track on a route, they have a hard time grasping the actual amount of real estate requiring decoration.

You have invested a TON of time to reach this point, and it shows. Ben Dorsey did a great job on the bridges, just as I knew that he would.

Now you can pick a location along the line, and landscape exactly the way that you want. Before you know it, these locations begin to merge together into a completed line.

GREAT JOB!

It is going to be a fantastic route!

Richard

I greatly admire you building the Key West Extension in full scale and length.

My FEC 2020 route is roughly the same stage your route is. It covers the rest of the FEC from South of Hialeah north to the Beaver Street interchange in Jacksonville.

I have a couple of concept suggestions for your consideration.

I will get into them right after my raquetball match.

signing off.

Richard

O.K. Racquetball is over. Won one game, lost the other.

Suggestion Number One: As much as I appreciate a layout that is true to scale and you can travel on for hours, some people can get bored quickly no matter how stunning the realistic scenery is. I have hours of video footage from the cab of an FEC locomotive. Some die-hard FEC rail-fans may watch it all the way through once or twice, but it will soon be collecting dust.

In my FEC 2020 route there is over 500 miles of mainline and branch lines. To keep thing interesting, I took a lesson from Walt Disney and turned segments of my right of way into interesting scenes.

A 7-11 store has just been robbed in Boca Raton but the police has the place surrounded and the crook on the ground. There is a street fair in Boyton Beach. Further up the line is a building fire, police protecting a malfunctioning crossing, and even a civil war reinactment.

Somewhere along the mainline a bigfoot is coming out of the forest. In another location the forest has many acres on fire. Dozens of these scenes will keep drivers on the look out. Those who have a little knowledge of surveyor can change these scenes, and add their own.

You never know what might be within view of the mainline in the Keys. Ship wrecks, boat races, drug busts by the coast guard, and plane crashes can happen at any time.

Richard

Suggestion Number Two: The Key West Route currently end at portals at the north end. If you extend you route a little farther to an FEC yard on the north end, I'll extend my FEC 2020 route farther south to that same yard.

My route will then blend into yours; and yours will blend into mine.

EVERYONE WINS!

Richard

Thanks Richard glad you enjoyed the route, im ussualy so busy building that i never get time to actual run it, but i knew the ride wasnt gonna be too smooth lol, especially after Marathon.
ok for the suggestions:
Yes i agree that it can get boring running all that distance without anything interesting to look at, so far really ive just hit the highlights of the route, once i get started again on the bulk of the line i will think up some mini scenes to add in, as you said the possibilities are pretty boundless on a route like this, i like the idea of a forest fire scene, theres lots of forest on this line so i have trees to burn :p
suggestin 2: sure will do that, Miami is a maze to me so i just slapped down some tracks on the the DEM lines with the intent to go back and do it properly later, the portals were there for a session of iportal i was having with a friend, i remember they were at a wye, how far from the wye is the yard?
well got a 3 day weekend so ill try and boot up trainz again and do a bit more work and ill keep your suggestions in mind :)

Edit: Isaccg, sorry i missed you comment, yes the line will include Miami....eventually very eventually lol, mabye you could have Tri Rail running down to Homestead on the FEC.

oh and heres a additional piece of content, Ben's Bahia Honda bridge updated with new textures as you see in my shots, Thanks Ben!

Testing a newly laid mainline is alway fun. Let's break the laws of physics!

I asked some FEC history buffs today where our two routes should meet.

Seth Bramson (author of Speedway To Sunshine) suggested the old Buena Vista Yard in South Miami. I will add Buena Vista yard to my route.

If you keep the switch at MP375, that will lead into the south end of Hialeah yard which I already have.

I'll get detailed charts and pictures and post them.
