there are several other assets that are my own but i have not got permission to release or are currently unavailable, i will contact the authors to see if i can release them.

i would say it has died, just gone on a long hold i guess,
havnt been too inclined to touch trs lately but i will finish this route
eventually.

I can wait for quality. As much as FEC fans are looking forward to your finished route, we know that your best work doesn't come from feeling pressured.

Take the time that you need. Create one of those points of interest scenes that we talked about that will catch peoples eyes as the run the route.

Just grinding out miles to finish the route will distroy the creative effort that you have already invested.

I want to see more of your ideas about what the keys would look like if the FEC still ran there. What about commuter service? What about Desalination plants?

Richard

Hi Richard,
thanks for the encouragement, right now though ive kind of hit a Trs burnout, ive been building things in KRS recently and am finding that a refreshing change. I will get back to working on FEC soon, but i know i will not be able to finish the whole route, too much scenery for me to do effectively.
My goal for this project is to finish:
-Key West, i would say now about halfway done,
-All towns in the Keys and Homestead.
- And have the whole route be drivable, with level track atleast.
As for commuter service, there may be some thing like that planned;)

I know first hand where you are coming from.

I split the remainder of the FEC into three parts:

Jacksonville to Oakhill Siding
Oakhill To Fort Pierce Yard
Fort Pierce Yard To Hialeah & Buena Vista Yards

Hopefully at these two southern points our two routes will meet.

Knocking out a difficult areas such as Bowden Yard, in Jax keeps my interest for a while; but creating the many miles of trees and brush between St. Augustine and Daytona causes my head to hit the keyboard.

It can start to feel like too much when I realize that I have put in almost one thousand crossing grades along hundreds of miles of track, and most of it I haven't landscaped yet.

I back off for a short period of time, then locate a spot along the line that interests me again and move forward. Those spots do start to merge together with each location that you complete, but you have to avoid looking at the blank space that is still ahead.

Trainz routes are supposed to be fun for both the end user AND THE CREATOR!

When you think of a cool idea for a scene, then go crazy and have fun with that spot. We'll deal with the bare sections later.

Richard

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Nikos has (more or less) left Trainz for KRS, so unless someone else wishes to pick up where he left off (and I'd be surprised if there wasn't), his projects are suspended indefinitely.

Well, living in Miami, maybe I think that it would be not too bad of an idea to pick it up. I've been to the northern 50 miles of the project and I can use Windows Live Local Maps to figure the rest out.

My newer version of the FEC could offer more of the impression than the old version, though I will stick with the same third party track that Nikos used unless someone wants default or DLS track.

His route so far has been an excellent work, and it is very realistic. If only the railroad's KWE were to be that way now.

Richard, tell me where you want the routes to merge so I can help you.

Of course I would like it to be okay with Nikos first.

Currently downloading the last dependencies. Will ask for 3rd party dependency help when I get home. Currently at Starbucks. The ones in question are not the ones above but I can't get the FTP search right.

you have my permission, ill try and get the custom dependencies to you soon, when completing it try and retain the look and feel of the route so far, i think i did a good job with that but i have no more energy to finish the route or do any virtual railroading at all these days.

Thank you very much!

Do not worry! I had it in mind to retain the look and feel! You did an excellent job that I applaud so much. I just wish the FEC ran that way!

The route will take some time to progress though to retain its quality. Like Richard said, route building should be fun for the users and the creators.

After Nikos's route is wrapped up, potentially in early 2010, I will hopefully have TransDem and be creating my perspective of the Florida East Coast Railway. It will be an excellent challenge as a less abbreviated version of the FEC is to me now. This route from Miami to Fort Pierce will be out in October.

To all, my first touch of progress will be in parts of the Upper Keys. I will be modeling the Jewfish Creek bridge and the stretch of track from Whale Harbor to Lower Homestead. After that I will tackle up to Kendall, and maybe, if I choose, to the Buena Vista and Hialeah Yards as Richard advertised. I will conclude the northern 55-60 miles on the south end of Yard Limits.

Look forward to a session by week's end by Key Largo!

Anyway, progress is on in the route. I am modeling the new Jewfish creek bridge that US1 uses now. I'll have a pic very soon. The US1 now uses a fixed span bridge.

I am also tackling Pinecrest.

First Roll of Progressive Screens Since 2008... LOL

I have been tackling mostly northern areas of the layout.

Southwest 72nd Street and US 1 - Semi Grade Separated

In 1997 Miami-Dade Public Works and the FDOT devised a grade separation of over 20 area crossings along US1 to make traffic control more straightforward. Plans were and still are in the works to add commuter rail, and the plan is getting more attractive as freight business is slowing down. The FDOT will only earn dispatching rights if the plan wins. As per eminent domain, buildings were truncated. Among those were SW 72nd St.

The US1 18 mile stretch proved too perilous for traffic to flow smoothly, as accidents were on an incremental rise. FDOT is making these lanes wider and will eventually have a center median. Note: This area still has its HOG textures. I'll add a formal shot of the finished product later.

Sample of a passing siding on its south end: Though the FEC lays on a red carpet of sorts, turnouts are built on wooden sleepers. This is a fictional Passing Siding north of the canal shot in a previous page. This doesn't have the improved US1 roadway though.

The Jewfish Creek draw was already simulated as replaced as per REAL FDOT plans though. The new fixed 65' bridge is not shown here though, but rather a railfan viewing location in the patio of a local hotel

Stay tuned;

I ran a session yesterday from Sunset Dr to Homestead and simulated something CSX might interest themselves with... ;)

I'll post screens VERY soon!
