Feather River Canyon

UPbigboy,

I like the Western Pacific. Thank you for this. You have my thumbs up. Maybe you will offer it as payware later? I am guessing you are going prototypical, looking at the above pictures.

If my memory serves me correctly, I think D.C. has already said this is going to be payware.

Funny, having worked with Dave for over a year now I don't remember him ever mentioning the route being payware, although judging from the quality I would not be surprised if he changed his tone. No, if memory serves me right, there may be other items of content that may one day be released as payware (be it rollingstock, buildings, maybe even locomotives) but I definitely don't recall him offering the Feather River Route as payware, however, as almost always, I could be wrong.:p

Cheers
Tim

That is kinda correct,...or perhaps it 'was' I should say . My intention was to finish the route by myself from Portola to Oroville in 2 or 3 years. I still am doing all the route construction and creating route specific content by myself, but it is certainly a timely process, even with more and more references to use. So now thinking about it, I would maybe like it to be a payware route (more of donation-ware) when it's done,...but obviously the 2 or 3 year time of completion was a little short. Maybe in 4 or 5 years depending on how much time I have...but that's life for ya'.

Still on that note, as I have become more and more involved in content building / reskinning, the route building time has cut back dramatically, further pushing the finishing date into the future (not gonna guess when till). Because of this, I HAD considered the idea of releasing a freeware, beta, mini route of just around Keddie (No Tim, your memory wasn't serving you wrong :hehe:). I thought a demo would help promote Project Western as a growing site, but decided last minute not to, as there were far too many gimme-pigs wanting and actually expecting a rush release,. This route is created at my own pace, which is why I want to keep it a one man job, atleast for now....Still, I may decide to release a beta demo just to see what people think of the work done...but I am still constantly tweaking finished areas.

NOW,...to answer pdkoester as well as an explanation of why of why I have considered maybe making it a payware route....

...it's very simple....picked up Tim's WP F units one day....found the Keddie Wye Bridge on DLS (the same bridge I have never replaced to this day as a monument)....I started with a few images and had fun building Keddie....looked around found more points of reference....updated content on the route....updated to TS2012....rebuilt the route and started making my own content for it....found plans of the entire WP system....completely gutted the route to match exactly to the plans...................here (below) is one page of the stack of plans....you see why I gutted most of the route after getting these....

.....so do I try for prototypical?....aside from scenery in areas I never see and a few areas I was too lazy to start again.....I would say yes.....yes very very prototypical :hehe:. Of course being an exact simulation of the real thing is near impossible (not to mention the lack of content and the amount of scenery detail would kill any PC), so I try to make it a pretty accurate representation of what it was.

This is good. I would pay good money for it. Can you provide a YouTube clip by chance? Just something simple, like two minutes of your favorite areas. This looks to match along my other $70 routes I bought. Is it possible to donate now, like $25, to preview this? Just curious, and thank you for your time. You are appreciated.

Paul

....anyway....

So here in the states, this 4th of July week has brought with it some extra spare time....which I needed to use for real life tasks, but I did manage to get some more work done on the FRR.

Back in Keddie (again), I tweaked the roundhouse area again and reskinned the roundhouse and turntable. Both will be replaced soon with a custom roundhouse building and the proper style turntable for the yard there. I just need to animate the turntable somehow....and at some point....

G'day, looking good, I love a good steamer route.
Regards
Barrie

Thanks for your kind words :)

Been awhile since I actually played around route building. Been caught up finishing other content and rebuilding parts of the PW website for the beginning of the new year.

Nevertheless, I had some time to venture back to the canyon and snap a shot of a passing freight approaching Quincy.

These shots are beautiful. As a child the Portola museum was my favorite because they didn't put KEEP OFF on everything. Only been through Keddie a few times but this certainly resembles it. I look forward to seeing this released.

This looks absolutely astonishing, I had my eye on this project for a while, I'm just wondering if this is going to be available for download any time soon, I really would like to get my hands on this. I feel that the routes that are currently built into Trainz 12 are a bit bland and I can't remember the last time any route that looked more scenic and better than Mojave. In fact I would make this the next route i would get if this was Payware. Anyways keep it up mate you are creating some epic work here

@trainboi1: Thanks a bunch! :D I aim to make the route resemble the MSTS version at the very least. Aside from structures, I think I am approaching that goal.

@RuvanJ: Thanks you as well :D Glad the project is still keeping a few folks, such as yourself, interested in the routes progress. The more people the better!

As it has been some time since the last update, I see it being a good point to mention the route's progress now.

Basically....nothing new to report :hehe: I have been traveling the past month or so and haven't touched my home workstation since I left. (haven't touched anything TRS related to be honest)

At some point before Christmas I should be back, but in the mean time all I got to show is a few unpublished screenshots of the route from a while ago.

Just a note, don't expect it soon, so I would refrain from asking. It will made available when it is ready.

Tim
I don't care how long it takes, not to rush him, cause it seems that he wants it to look the best it can, and i applaud him for that, its hard to find good quality routes anymore, and as in Model Railroading, your never finished, there is always something to improve, so I'm glad to see him making a beautiful route. I don't care if i wait until 2030, Im just looking forward to it.:D

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would post on this thread as I have started my own version of this route based on the DME map available. I have track laid as far as Williams loop and want to thank the creators of the North Fork Bridge and the Keddie Wye bridges. I will probably redo the North Fork bridge as the color is a little off from the real one. I also plan to build the Hiway/Rail bridge over lake Oroville. For now here is a couple of screenshots of the tunnel/overpass at Williams Loop.

]

I'll check back in from time to time and am willing to share my models with Bigboy to add to his version of the route.

Here are some more shots. Williams Loop area is almost finished. Working on Portola now. Have all the streets laid out for the city grid and all the track work is finished. I'll have more shots as soon as I have them done.
