Feather River Canyon

I finally went back to the beginning of this thread, WOW! I was blown away. Now if it is all in Trainz 12, this should work on mine, too. Just need to figure out why I have so many dependency and asset issues. When this route is available, I would gladly pay for it! Thanks for your effort.

Update:

Finally, on Christmas day of all things, it is working thanks to the talents of many of you!

Update 12/28 - Revisiting the Start

@malikrthr: The track(s) I use are variety of my own skins of track meshes by cloakedghost and simulatortrain. For the moment, everything is for my own personal use and always changing. I don't know yet what track type I will include with the release of the route, but that's a couple years down the road....

@pdkoester: When the route does get released (no sooner than 2014 at my current pace), it very well maybe payware as route has taken so much of my time and has a variety of custom models (still yet to be added). And to answer your question, it should run fine in TS2012, ...IF I get it done before another a new Trainz version is released and/or IF the next Trainz version doesn't make me upgrade the route again (but only if the pros completely over ruled the cons of TS2012...which so far are few aside from Speedtrees).

Now getting back into the swing of things, it's a slow conversion, but the original beginning of track is almost completely converted...

Original; September 2011 - TS2009

Once finished updating, it's back to the end of the track just east of Quincy,...at the loop...

...I don't think Tim or I ever thought PW would come this far :hehe: and boy is it grand we have!

UPbigboy,

I was wondering, where can I find the GP unit(s)? I have the F-units in pumpkin, perlman, freight, weathered, etc., but cannot find the GP unit(s). I downloaded a what if SD-7/SD-9 in Sacramento Northern, but I really like the real units. Thanks in advance.

Paul

As has been stated previously multiple times, they are not available.

What is happening is that VMD released a reskinnable GP7/9 unit, but the reskins can only be hosted by VMD.

Unfortunately, VMD seems to have dropped off the face of the earth again.

So, no VMD, no uploaded reskins.

EDIT: Which is indeed a bit ...... inconvenient. I myself have stuff I wish I could release.....

which is rather annoying, if you ask me...

BTW, don't anger Chris; he's ex navy, and therefore has the keys to U.S.S. Iowa, and the knowhow to use it; "It" being the fire control system

@DustinJRaiken: Appreciate the compliment! Thank you sir.

@pdkoester: Just as Chris said, those units I reskinned, but they are VMD content. I can't release till they allow so.

@sawyer811: I agree 100%. As another fellow member said "it's no fun reskinning what you can't release." I have several reskins of the Geeps in Western Pacific, Northern Pacific, Great Northern, & Central California Traction, and most are near completed, but all are now on the end of the list of things to do, since there is no real rush to finish them. AND, the most surprising is that VMD has completely disappeared....again. They were/are a great group and I just find it quite surprising that they have just vanished.

@DominikB: Thanks for the kind words. As for a release date, that's TBA. It's taken a year just to get where I am now (that's original layout in TS06, upgraded to TS09, expanded, upgraded to TS12, rebuild and re-detailed, and preparing to expand again). At the moment, I only have maybe two dozen miles of the line to the level I feel is presentable (the upgrade to TS12 destroyed much of the old scenery). I don't have as much time now as I did when I started the route, so upgrading and expanding is much slower...for the moment (it is speeding up as I finish the tough parts of the line), and I also take breaks from the construction to make custom content for the route, such as specific stations, track, rolling stock, textures, etc, when the time comes. Often, I have to stop work all together till I find a photo or something to reference a building or scene from.

SOOO,...in short, the route's release date is probably no sooner than 3 or 4 years from now. I build this route as a hobby, little by little, to make sure I pay close attention to scenes and make everything blend together well.

However, I have been once again playing with the idea of releasing a demo version of the route. I had planned a demo several months ago, but decided not to for reasons. But this version will be for TS12, meaning it is a much more detailed version than the original. It will contain a hand full of custom buildings, textures, etc, and will act as a sampler of what the completed full version will be. It's just an idea at the moment since the Keddie area is about 95% done, which was the original demo section I had planned way back when. Stay tuned for a final decision on the demo.

@Everyone In General: I haven't done much to the route in the past week. I have been busy putting together a WP/SN Outside Braced Caboose (see the GMax and 3DSMax thread) as well as finishing a few stations and other custom details for the route. As stated above, the route is only a few baseboards away from the original section of the route that I had plans of releasing as a demo; several months ago. Of course now the sections look far better than the original version. Creating custom details for the route takes time, but really goes a long way.

I have found ways to cut years off of tedious tracklaying (from looking straight down), and am willing to share my techniques with all.

The only tough part is making the perfected tracklaying, into precise gradients, which I am still developing a technique.

Sometimes my curves take an hour to perfect, and other simple curves, just a couple of minutes time ... but my curve radius are immaculately precisely drawn.

I use that seldom used "Curve Radius" button in the Trainz/Track/Advanced tab

Thanks for the offer, but track laying isn't the tedious part....in fact it is the easiest and quickest part once you know the track plan to lay down.

Scenery is the part that takes time

I hate tracklaying and town laying, but scenicking is my favorite part. To each his own I guess.

Coming along swell, love it!

@SuperFudd: But when you think about it, a railroad has to run threw some form of scenery. I am just trying to make the scenery as realistic as I can (or at least the best I can to blend it together).

@ulmer94: Thanks, and what you say is completely right. Scenery making is a favorite of mine too. However, I love specific details, such as the level of individual details only found when making a city, even more than basic countryside scenery, yet I hate town building.

"to each his own"..and to each, great work of your own.

Update 2/17

Well, it's been some time since the last update.

Progress is slow on the route, as I have been busy learning how to convert MSTS models to Trainz (still learning), and making the Outside Braced Cabooses that the WP and SN used (finishing textures).

However, slow progress is still progress, and here's a few W.I.P shots of the route over the past few months.

Almost have all the scenery between Keddie and Quincy Jct.

Update 6/30

Well, been a few months since I last updated the thread. Basically, the FRR project is still not dead. I haven't put as much time into working on it as I have in recent months (been plagued with fixing ton after literal ton of content thanks to the recent Trainz Build Patches...which I regret installing because of the issues it created.... :n:). Needless to say though, I have begun back into the route, adding new buildings, fixing bridges and culverts, finishing scenery, and yes, finally extending track again.:Y: As of tonight, end of track is at The Loop, and finished, detailed TS2012 scenery stretches from Paxton to Quincy. Further more, having been fixing and cleaning majority of my content, I came across a few lost files that I managed to bring back to life. One of them is in the shot below...will have to wait a while (maybe even a month or two knowing how life is :o) for an up close shot of other 'lost' content.

Anyway, here's an overview shot looking North into Quincy Junction.
