What era would you want to live in and why? And where would it be?
I personally would be born in 1920 growing up in the San Francisco bay area in the 1930s and working for the Southern Pacific as an engineer in the 1940s. The reason is due to working on the Penninsula Commute, San Joaquin Daylight, Sacramento Daylight, and the Coast Daylight. GS 4-8-4s, MT 4-8-2s, 4-6-2 Pacifics and others.
Working on the five MT class 4-8-2s that were semi streamlined, the three 4-6-2s that were semi streamlined wouldve been a dream come true since none were saved. I'd save all three 4-6-2 Pacifics that were given skyline casings and semi streamlined if I could. I'd save an AC-9, GS1, GS2, GS3, GS5, one 4-8-2 from each MT class, and a couple more units. For diesels I'd save ALCO PAs, more rolling stock, and other daylight diesels. And even convince SP to do a steam program.
Only downside is the racial discrimmination, second red scare, and other issues in the country at the time, especially being a minority. At least it isn't as bad like the south is since its worse and virtually unbearable. I'd own a home in San Francisco, Oakland, and maybe Sacramento. Traveling over the Cal-P line seeing all those abandoned tracks over the line, in Oakland and all over the east bay. I'd love to see trains draped over the rail before being taken out of service as well as the bay area in whole. Thats my favorite era and place. I'd love to hear yours.
