FATAL EXCEPTION PROBLEM CAN ANYBODY SOLVE

Possible solution to problem

Here is a possible solution to the problem (this normally works for TRS2004 and may work on TRS2006 as well - I don't know if it works on other versions of Trainz) - the problem mostly happens with NVIDIA graphic cards.

1.Find the Trainz.exe file (Usually in Program Files/Auran/TRS????/Bin)
(???? is the version number eg 2004,2006)
2. Right-click the file and choose Properties (or equivalent option)
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. One of the options at the top is 'Run program in compatibility mode for' - click in the box next to it to put a tick it and select Windows 98/ME in the dropdown box directly below it. Click OK to confirm the change.
5. Load the main launch program (the one that brings up the Start, Configure Trainz etc).
6. Click on Options (it is called Configure Trainz in '04) then on the Advanced Options tab at the top of the box that appears.
7. Select 32 in the box next to Resource Cache Size then click OK to get back to the main screen. Now click Start (or Launch Trainz) to test it.

If it still throws up the same exception, post another message.

ok nothing has worked so i am again!! removing every trainz file and folder and all custom files from my computer, re install and re load all the service packs. the service packs require the version and build number..how can i get that number if the game will not go past the the first menu before crashing?

What type of graphics card are you using? (nvidia, ati etc) - if you are wondering why I'm asking that question I am aware of a problem with some machines running NVIDIA graphics cards that causes trainz not to load correctly (causes a fatal error on startup referring to a Breakpoint) Also try using the compatibility instructions I posted above on the TRS2004 or TRS2006 link (usually in the start menu or on the desktop) and set the compatibility on that for Windows 98/ME as well - see if that helps.

i am using nvidia Ge forcefx5200 i have installed the latest driver update.
i have done the instructions as you posted in the previous message and still i get the breakpoint / fatal exception:confused:

It may not help but I was wondering .Could your disc be damaged in any way.I have had similar problems in the past with other games that require the disc to run. My copy of TRs04SP4 runs perfect for me and I am not running compatabilty mode. My system is " Packard Bell Imedia 1501, Celeron D 2.8ghz,2mB ram, Nvidia G-force FX 5500 256 MD DDR, XP Home SP1.

did the above changes to my trainzoptions. here is the event log:

"How soon after clicking the Trs2004 icon does it crash? Before or after the start/configure window?"

my game only gets to the start/configure etc, window then crashes immediately when you click 'launch trainz"... then i get the fatal exception.

As this sort of problem can invoke many a runaround,ie kernel can involve ...memory/os/timing latency... I first would look and check if my onboard memory is seated correctly. As Illy is in Thailand it can get quite warm there..:o so maybe a memory stick has warped in the socket....or a memory stick is on it's way out to the great memory stick haven on high:hehe:

as for the -intro ....that would normaly be just a graphics problem from either DirectX or OpenGl..
Most of us run Trainz in the barest of situations, ie, as much as we can possibly shut down we do, so Illy, and anyone else with this problem, try and shut down as many processes as safe as possible, or what your OS will allow you to and then try and run Trainz again.

nothing has worked for me so i have ordered the "trainz ultimate collection" online from australia, and will replace my ram and get the computer HD 'cleaned' by a pro. i have back ups on external hard drive so all my saves should be there. if the game doesnt work after all that i with lie down on the tracks before the next [real]train to bangkok!!
will let you know what happens though with this original game as it seems a few people are getting this same exception issue!!.

i have had my computer CPU and memory replaced and the game now works fine but if i load all custom content on it will crash,[but not a fatal exception anymore!!] so i will leave out some of my created and or downloaded trains etc. then it works ok.

the problem i have now is that i get my 'driver' sessions but no surveyor sessions and a lot of my trains are missing. i have copied the cache files from backup disc but obviously i have done something wrong or need to copy some other files.

so anyone out there with this fatal exception i would say has a similar problem with old or corrupted files and or memory issues , same a s me

thanks folks.
