FATAL ERROR

Hi can anyone help.
I am having two problems with my TRAINZ 2004.

1. After a few seconds of being in either Driver or Surveyor the screen goes to quarter size and I get the message FATAL ERROR and have to exit trainz by control alt delete.
The description of the error is always the same i.e. Class Hardware Reason Access Violation Exeption @ C/WINDOWS/system32/atiogh2.dll Recoverable exeption: yes then there are 14 blocks of figures after the heading EAX EBX EDX THEN ES FS GS then flags. FOLLOWED BY CALL STACK 691EAO46

2. When creating water in surveyor the shades are in squares not just one surface? This problem occurs in both newly created water and water which was previously created using my old graphics card. The old water was OK before the graphics card was changed.

I have recently had a new graphics card fitted, an ASUS AH 3650 which replaced an NVIDIA Enforce INO 3D6800. Problem 2 started straightaway but problem 1 did not kick in until a week later.

Any ideas folks?

From what I read of the error it's related to your display drivers. Have you downloaded and installed new drivers lately? If not, you should. Also, did you clean out your old drivers before installing new ones, that often is needed when you switch brands of video cards.

Are you running in OpenGL or DirectX? Try running in the other one.

Do a DxDiag. Run/dxdiag/enter...and read the report.

Fair enough; you did switch from a Nvidia card to an ATI card, so it could be a driver conflict.

Fatal error problem

I would usually get that annoying problem during the game. Last night, however, the error cam up just as I was ending the game. What can I do to prevent that form happening again?

Hi, The problem seems to have gone without me doing anything. I can only wonder if my sending an error report to windows has caused an update of my system.?? My grandson ( a 13 year computer expert as they all are now) tells me that that is quite likely. I still the poor water image but I can live with that for the moment. Sorry that I cannot be more helpful.

My 13 yr old grandson ( a computer expert?) tells me that that is possible.
