Extracting audio from videos -

I've been using the Ask & Record toolbar (a freeware utility) to extract sounds from videos and use them for engine sounds in my Trainz models. It worked great when I first started using it.

Lately, every time I launch the Audio Recorder, I get an error message from Windows (XP SP3) that wants to shut everything down. 'Dr Watson' thinks the program is a threat, which it isn't.

If I click through all the error pop-ups, I often find the Audio Recorder is still active and I can go ahead and play a video and extract the audio. Quite often though, the computer locks up and I need to re-boot it.

But does anyone know how I can overcome this problem?

I personally wouldn't trust anything from the Ask folks; they're pretty well know for adware/nagware. I use the DownloadHelper plugin for Firefox to save .flv files, the use xrecode to convert to audio. They are both free; I've been so impressed with xrecode I sent them $20 (which I hardly ever do). Good luck!

any Wave Editor should be able to record whatever audio you've got playing
I use the basic one that comes bundled with Nero stuff

Darrell thanks.

I'm using IE, so the Firefox plugin is not an option. I don't have a problem saving videos as .flv's, it's just the Ask audio extraction that causes me pain. So I tried xrecode on some existing .flv's and it works really fast and well, straight to .wav

Problem solved.

Try using AVS4You...or Audacity. Audacity is free the other is not.
