Well serveral weeks ago there was a fued going on about someone not liking these locmotives. So I decided to make another thread for everyones opinion on the Evolution Series.

P.s. These two engines here are less than a week old.

They look cool, and I agree how they look like AC6000CW's.

However, GEVOs are rather ubiquitous! Lately, I'm seeing more and more here in Miami, considering previous rarity! Or maybe I've seen too much Dash 8 or GP40-2. :hehe: I am sure that I have missed the numbers of at least 3 GEVOs, one in Orlando, probably many in Miami!

CSX GEVOs I've seen (the only one!)
5316 - Miami, FL 2006
5329 - Miami, FL July 2008
5349 - Miami, FL 2006
5373 - Plant City, FL March 15, 2008 (on Juice train video, DOESN'T really COUNT!):hehe: ;)
5410 - Miami, FL June 2008
5420 - Plant City, FL March 15, 2008 (same as 5373)
5454 - Miami, FL May 26, 2008 (I actually took a photo of this one):p

im just happy there not looking futuristic, i actually do like this loco, espscially in the BNSF's newest paint(saw it on a show)

um they look pretty similar to normal diesels. They do look kinda crappy but thats because they have fatheads. (i prefer high hoods, and low hoods myself) Other than that the only problem i have with them is that they are way to shiny. they need to be roughed up a bit.

well they r the best in my opinion and the most advanced diesels in north america. and what do u mean by there just another diesel and theres nothing to look at well ur wrong.

well there that shiny because there less than a week old and these locos paint r shiny at first but the look "roughed up" after they have been put to work.

compare this cab to a nasty steamer cab!

Id prefer the steam engine. they are cleaner to work on. Diesels tend to bleed oil like a stuck pig, and are just nasty to be undernieth(cant spell today ><) working on them.

They may be the most advanced but that doesnt mean that they are the best. The first and second phase diesels are much better, in my opinon, than the third(current) phase. Plus i prefer the old style of controls, less like a video game and if there is an electrical problem you can still run the train to some extent. But thats just my opinion.

And yes they still look just like Dash9s, ES44s and SD70ACEs to me. Its a very similar body structure. Its the engine thats different. And when it comes to engine quality, EMD has GE beat hands down.

Cab

I've been in a CP ES44AC, pretty cool. They crew complained that they want t a microwave.:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: I agree! All they have is a damn kettle heater which they never use!

Ive seen way too many of them to care about them,
I like the carbody, the horns decent, i could care less about the sounds, the sound alrighy approaching in the distance, older GE's sound way better.
I hate them in BNSF H3, UP isnt great either on the GEVO's. All in all they are good looking engines, i just see too damn many of them.

well u see so many of because they are a lot more improved than the older ge so many rr companys want to buy them because the older locos have problems and this loco has been made to improve those problems. they are also more fuel efficent than older locos. but i do to see a large amount of these locos on the csx route in my area. it would be nice to occasionly see an older unit!:) :)    :) :)

The Evolution engine certainly retains oil better than the old Panheads and Flatheads, but they lack some of the Harley mystique at the same time.....
