Escanaba and Lake Superior in the North Woods

Looks very good. I am sure you are having a fun time modeling it down to Bond Street if you haven't done so already. I did see a grass/weed spline that would match what you see in the actual photo. I will have to try and find it again. I like the choice of track your using too. Is that one of the JR jointed rail tracks? The E&LS is a fun railroad that I have a lot of respect for. They do what they have to in order to stay alive and if you can catch them at the right time it sure is fun watching them.

Here is a photo I shot last summer of the Marinette branch. E&LS uses this branch line to store miles and miles of cars. One has to think how much longer the track will hold up as it is sinking into the ground. Thanks to WCL for driving me around that day!

Here is another photo that someone else took in the UP. Tracks were shiny when this photo was taken as the photo was taken a day after storage cars were pulled off this line.

Are those -2 old Conrail units, if so cool, nice work on recreating it

Nope....They were leased units....Better pix of them can be seen here:

The 501

The 1344

The ELS owns 4 SD40-2's the 500, 501, 1344 and the 1338

Here is an older roster that does not have the 2 new SD40-2's on it...The 1344 and the 1338

Today I took a spin back up to Escanaba to see what kind of RR action I could find......

We got up to Escanaba and headed down towards the light house where you can catch the backside of the engine house of the ELS, looks like the 1338, 1344 and the 402 are in the roundhouse...The signs kept us out from getting a better pic of them

We then drove to another part of the yard to see what was going on at the other end, not much as one can see.....Few cars laying around, good ol Lake Michigan in the back...You can feel the cool wind come off the lake

Got a shot of the repair shop

We then heard a horn coming from the north, so we drove down this dead end road and found this old house that looked pretty creepy...Parked the car here and ran to the tracks quick

Guess the only thing running up here today was this WC train coming down from Gladstone

After the WC cleared we headed to the boat landing to catch a back side view of the ELS deadline

Seeing we got skunked by the ELS, it was just time to go home and call it a day

Yeah, I just keep adding more and more to it...I just wanted to do the line from Stiles Jct to Oconto Falls...But then it went to Crivitz, and then south to Green Bay....Then from Crivitz I added it to Pembine and then from Crivitz I added it to Marinette and then from Pembine I added it to Iron Mountain and then took it from Pembine to Escanaba....But Now I kinda took it to far and put in CN tracks south out of Marinette to Oconto I got laid now and then I will take it from Oconto all the way into Green Bay to ELS JCT and then to N Green Bay Yard.....I am planning on extending it yet from Iron Mountain to Channing yet........

And those who wanna see the real no RR fan signs....Here is an example of one in Escanaba

That is awesome. Pembine to Channing can always be added later or last. You are doing work at the most important locations!

Yeah.....I wanna make it to Channing to that LP plant in Sagola so one can take the OSB board loads to Green Bay ;)

Today up in Escanaba we catch the morning ELS job heading up the line to the Groos yard to get todays train to make a run over to Pembine and then onto Crivitz

Ducking under the CN/WC mainline

Coming back from the yard with a big train of 4 cars, the ELS hops off its tracks and onto the tracks of the CN to ride its rails all the way to Pembine....The ELS likes riding on these rails as they can at least do above 30mph

Coming into Pembine the train enters the yard limits and slows to hop off the CN and back onto ELS tracks

Rounding the connecting track at Pembine, we see a lone SD9 idling away at the depot, this train will go north up towards Iron Mountain and then to Channnig will it will tie up later today

Backing down the line the 600 spots the empties here at Pembine where they will be loaded and either go south towards Green Bay or north to Sagola

The power will run light now to Crivitz and do some work around there before coming back up to Pembine and then back to Escanaba

A Groveland mine train leaves the mine and heads towards Iron Mountain...The mine is not much to look at, as up here, they dont have many funds to keep the place up to par, so they make do with what they can with what they got......

Will we see this route released at all? Being a soo line guy, I would love to play this route....

Sad thing is....The SOO LINE didnt run on this line...This was an all Milwaukee Road line...Only SOO power that was ever seen was borrowed power from a museum cause of power shortage and the SOO LINE that ran up thru Pembine

Caught the Crivitz to Green Bay turn here at Stiles Jct, where it will make a set out for the Oconto Falls branch line

Meanwhile up in Channing, we see the 400 idle away next to the depot before making up its train to head south for Crivitz

The Crivitz Shuffle...ILSX SD40 #1344 pulls up to the switch. He will need to get off the main to let the Crivitz to Green Bay local through. With no room in the actual yard he will need to pull onto the wye track and then onto the Marinette Branch to let the southbound through. This will undoubtedly irk people who are driving on 141!

Meanwhile, off into the distance the southbound awaits clearance.

ILSX #1344 starts making the turn towards the Marinette branch to let the southbound through. Up front are some covered hoppers that are probably either going into storage or coming out of storage.
