Error message

Right-Oh, here you are. No need to send this, actually, and I can't see how to attach a file to this message. I have a very simple model, consisting of a block with one tapered face and textured with a brick finish. On top is a plane, textured with a concrete finish. They are part of my set of models on the DLS. The asset you want is SR/LBSCR Brick Abutment Block, kuid:381430:1104, author jayholland. Download it and look at the file structure, particularly the config.txt, which is about as simple as they get. Ignore the .jpg file in the thumbnail section - this refers to the image that appears on the DLS, and is not necessary for the asset to work. Clone the asset, replace 'abuttaper.IM' with your own IM file, and 'lbscbrick.tga' with your own texture file and 'lbscbrick.texture.txt' with your own txt file, and it should work, in theory...

OK,

I got the block into Trainz, but with some trouble. When I simply added my texture, .im and .tga files to your config.txt and renamed it, it went through fine and I was able to use the asset in servayor.
However, when I tried going through the CCP and creating the config.txt file that way, it showed no error messages, but the asset did have the ! icon, on the far right lit, saying "Faulty". When I went to pull it up in servayor, the file showed up in red, with no image.

I deleted everything and tried to recreate yours in the CCP. writing your config.txt file exactly as you had only using my KUID. It failed as well.

The only way I can get it to go through, is if I only use the "Edit in Explorer"
and stay out of the CCP.

This tells me that either I am doing something wrong creating the config.txt file in CCP, or I have a defective program. I did download it. I baught it from Amazon.com and have redownload 3 times.

You think I may have a buggy game, or should I hit the books and learn more about using the CCP? :)

I forgot to mention - when you have cloned the asset, your clone will appear with the same asset name as the original, but the author name will have changed. To reduce confusion, open the config.txt file and change the 'username' entry to something of your choice. Also, don't forget to change the IM file in the mesh table entry to your own IM file name...

If you hit 'Edit in CCP' rather than 'Edit in Explorer' it should tell you what it thinks is wrong.

I think your problem is coming from trying to set up the new asset in CCP from scratch. When you create a new asset, CCP creates a config file. That is all it does It does not make links to your IM or any other file. If you open this config in Notepad, it lmay even look empty, but it is not. CCP has actually assigned a KUID to the file, but it is hidden. You cannot tell what this is, as it does it randomly. If you then quote another KUID which does not match its hidden one, it gets confused. There is a method of forcing Trainz to accept your choice of KUID, but I cannot remember exactly how it is done at the moment. There are a couple of threads about it on the forum somewhere.

It is best to clone an asset. That way, CCP not only assigns the hidden KUID, but also tells you what it is in the relevant line of the new config. You should on no account try to change this, or you will get an error. I have managed to force CCP to accept my choice of KUID, but it is much simpler and quicker to simply clone an existing asset, change its 'username' so you can identify it easily, and proceed from there. I actually only use CCP for checking for 'errors', some of which are in its imagination, I am sure. Incidentally, TRS2009 will often flag older content as having errors, but the content does actually work!
