Simply put , a road slug, is used to provide extra traction for the mother unit. Yes they are semi permanent coupled to the mother unit. Uncoupling can be done but trust me it is a pain in the rear. Their prime move was replaced with a big concrete block. The only thing they have is traction motors and electrical and operating console. If you could pull the rear shell off, all you would see is some wiring and a the big block of concrete.

Thanks Sam great too see you pop in here now and then mate hows life treating you and the family ? all good i hope, Thank you for the reply but is a RDMATE the same kind of thing as well ?.

yes it's the exact same thing.
Life going good. I'm now the proud owner of two former KRL heavy duty 16 axles flats with 8 on lease. So SAXT is back in business. Now only does SAXT provide international railroad consulting, but we also provide heavy haul services as well. I hope you and the family is doing well.
