ECML - removing station sounds

Some of the stations on the ECML route have an annoying continuous three tone sound (eg Newark) I believe it is possible to remove or substitute them but how?

Thanks
Ken

Yes it’s a rather annoying noise, which wasn’t noticed until after 2012 was released. In the 2010 version it sounds fine. It’s also installed at Biggleswade station. I presume you know how to use the replace tool in surveyor to change this to another sound/station announcement. The offending file name is called platform_announce. When saving the route make sure you save and not save as and also make sure a new session is not created, as by default Trainz will save another version.

I’m just off to Barrow Hill running Deltic 55008 Trainz simulator for the next four days. VIP day tomorrow so will be unable to reply if any problems till next week.

Hi Stuart
Thanks for replying, I thought the sound file icon would be visible in wireframe mode but I can't see it, where is (are) they located?

Do not bother responding until you get back from your trip, there is no urgency.

Thanks

Ken

I also could not find this platform_announce in the wire frame, therefore I cannot remove it. The only way I could get rid of the sound was to disable the sound in CM. I asked about this eight or nine months on the forum asking for suggestions and got none other than to disable it.

You will not find it in a million years. What’s wrong in replacing it with a warehouse or some large object. You will then find it.

Paul I’m not always on here so just repeat the question after a period of time.

On the subject of ECML, any plans on adding the section from Selby to Brough in a future update? The Hull Executive currently runs on that right-of-way, according to thetrainline.com and hulltrains.co.uk.

Thanks Stuart I will try that I was just a bit bothered about using an automatic function I prefer to be in control. I've spent a lot of time adding textures around the Darlington area and adding invisible stations on the entire ECML route and did not want to mess it up.
You and your team should be really proud of the ECML route it's a true work of art.
Hope you had a good trip.

I have to agree with napierdeltic, if you know what the annoying sound is called, you can then use the replace tool in surveyor, and replace the sound with a large tree or a large factory, so you can see where it was on the route, and then delete it, hopefully after this you will get no more sound from that area.

Hope the above works.

Thanks for the kind works it’s a labour of love and the team have done a wonderful job. As time progress adjustments will be made to areas to get as correct as possible but it has to go hand in hand with building the complete route, as some areas need many more hours to get right. York was a good example in spending around 400 hr on two baseboards for the 2012 release and still not finished !! A credit must also go to all content builders who without their work the ECML would be difficult to build.

There are a few infills that need doing and something like the Selby – Gilberdyke Junction will be done in time. Its on the wish list but not planned at the moment. The ECML version based around 1976 still had Selby on ECML. It wasn’t till Selby lost its London service when the new diversion was built did trains then run to Hull via Selby from London.

There is still tons to do to the route and being done seven days a week. With being at Barrow Hill this last weekends Fab4 event I spent £30 out of my own pocket on second hand books with reference to the ECML. So yet more fine tuning to do again !!:'(

With regard to the platform_announce, I simply removed it from the config.txt, so it doesn't load. Much quieter now thank you. I can't remember if I did it using the cmp or manually, as it was a while ago. Still frustrated with a couple of nagging things like un-named crossings, and a missing lever, and yes I have been messing it about! With regard to branch lines to this layout, don't forget you can program portals to simulate the branches, particularly to simulate the Selby diversion. Any train carrying a driver schedule entering a portal that instructs a train to emerge from a further portal, will emerge with the schedule intact, and carry on with its routing. Just need the timing right.

A note on the replace asset tool, not all assets are interchangeable.

When I was a young boy in the 50's we lived about a half mile from Kings X station and my grandparents lived just outside of Leeds and we used to visit them 4 or 5 times a year so for me the ECML is very nostalgic. I used to go to Kings X trainspotting mostly A3's and A4's and occasionally my friends and I would go on a quick trip to Potter's Bar on a diesel railcar. We sometimes went to St Pancras station but that was such a dark dismal place them. I would love some gifted model maker to model the new St Pancras to the Olympic village.

Pleased everyone has sorted out with that platform announcing noise.

If anyone spots any faults or have any recommendations your welcomed to PM me as long as it’s the 2012 version you have.

Must have been an interesting era Ken to see the A4’s etc. I am a 60’s baby so more of a diesel man mainly following the hydraulics till 77 and then being part of the group who formed the Deltic Preservation Society in the early days and still involved 35 years later

There was someone on this forum that built the new St Pancreas station and I did e-mail the person a few times but never got a reply.

The only problem with replacing the sound with a large warehouse etc is that if there were three instances and not two I would only delete two warehouses leaving one lerking around.
A much cleaner solution was suggested by other repondents that is to replace the platform_announce.wav with a new platform_annouce file, the new one could contain birdsong or silence. Another suggestion may be to change the loop in the config file as the wav file is simply one second in length - I may even add silence to that file to make it acceptable.
