Elevated Freight Rail.

So, I've been searching through here in the forums, and on Bing in general, and I can't seem to find anyone else asking the types of questions I have.
How would someone like myself go about making an elevated freight station/warehouse for a route? the inspiration is New York's High Line, but I can't really find many good assets for making freight stations that have the tracks entering through higher floors than the first. I have a possible viaduct set I could use, but lack knowledge of what building assets to use for the actual freight stations, or how to "assemble"/place such buildings on the route.
thanks - Greenstar.

You will need to create "tunnels" through the buildings by kit bashing buildings together. You can lift building assets up above the ground and place them as you need to. There are industry tracks that have no industry connected to them. These will load and unload your freight and you can configure them to accept various kinds of freight and not anything that's tied to a particular industry. MSGSAPPER has made an industry track and recently Jointed Rail has one that allows multiple commodities that can be accepted or unloaded. The Jointed Rail Multiple Industry 2 is a rewrite to work in the newer versions of Trainz.

Having said that, I'm not sure if these can be raised or lowered and in order to do that you will need to edit the config.txt file and add the height range and remove a tag that prevents the asset from moving. I'm sorry if I can't give you any more details but I am away from my Trainzing computer and I can't verify the details on them.

With the buildings not having any basements and you'll have holes under them, you'll have to place buildings or something else underneath such as various spline retaining walls and other buildings.

yeah, the Multiple Industry tracks sound like a good idea, I have a few of them installed already that i could test. the hardest part, which is what I can't figure out as of now, is how to Kit-Bash buildings together for this. the retaining walls idea could work for some of the structures though, might greatly simplify part of the transitions from building to viaduct depending on where on the route it is.

Kit bashing buildings in Trainz is simply a matter of moving different buildings up and down and aligning then to fit together into a group. The pain in the butt part is they can easily be pulled apart if you move something because they don't lock. I've done this multiple times to create factory complexes or other set ups.

that's where layers are useful in my experience. finding the right buildings to use as a base is a problem, as most warehouses I know of have their loading docks built into their first floors or such. I'm very much a novice when it comes to these types of industrial pieces. what are some assets you recommend specifically if I want to practice kitbashing industrial things?

They definitely are helpful! When I did this, there were no such things as layers and a slight twitch of a mouse sent everything askew!

Built-in into Trainz are some simple cube-like buildings with windows on them. Honestly, I can't remember the name of them but search for them with Auran as the author. They are numbered, if that helps. There are many, many other buildings by dmdrake on the DLS. These are pretty old now, going on 15 years or more, but they are great for fillers. Dave Snow made some nice brick warehouses. I use one of them a number of times and I've stacked them so that they become taller. The one issue with that building is the attached chimney. The famous Ben Dorsey (bendorsey) made many buildings. Among them is a coffee company that's made from pieces. These can be used separately.

This is only a sampling. There are many others by so many other content creators. In addition to these, also check some of the UK authors. Their mills are a bit smaller, but bits of them can be fit in for lower floors, etc. Mason Taylor (masontaylor) made some old brick mill buildings. I used these because they are similar to what we have in my area.

I was just eyeing that Coffee company building kit earlier as it looked like it had some parts that were missing two of the walls, so i could use some other walls to fill in the gaps, per say, whilst running the track(s) through it. If it comes to it i'll just force myself to make a quick asset in Blender and have it ported by a friend of mine for messing with to have variety in testing.

Excellent. Let us know how this goes.
