Drake City Network - Journey through the virtual country

Chapter 4a
Toledo - Arlington - Olympia

Today we follow the coastline between Toledo and Arlington, and our trip (this chapter) will end in Olympia.

Toledo is the city in the most eastern part of the country. All trains arriving and departing from this station have their terminus or start here. The city has a small harbour, as you can see on the picture below:

Screen_900.jpg

We leave the city behind us:

Screen_135.jpg

After 6 minutes by local train, we reach Moundsville-on-Sea.

And here the Express train from Toledo to Arlington Central, Olympia Central, Reading Airport and Reading Grand Central is passing...

ACFZCAx1aqcf.jpg

The run from Moundsville-on-Sea to Arlington central takes 10 minutes, and most of the time we have the sea on one
side.

If you want you can jump into connected local and express trains to Kimballton, Drake City and Russiatown, or take
the mountainous journey to Mount Pleasant and Thermopolis.

Hello Timetable, wonderful screenies, you have an immense amount of talent to do something like this, I would just like to ask one thing though, with the large amount of built-up areas, will small-computer users have trouble with frame rates, etc, please ??

Thanks a lot.

I have a new (high end) computer now, but even on my old computer it was going pretty well. Only in the Reading area, which has a complexity railway structure AND with 28 baseboards the biggest city on the layout, had a bit stuttering.
On my new computer I had an average framerate of over 32 after a 33 minutes session and 40 trains in full operation.
I had (on my new pc) also sessions of more than 2 hours, almost no stuttering at all, but impossible to look at the jetlog afterwards: it was a document of more than 2 gigabite!!

And now going to chapter 4b:

It takes a while until we reach the end of the large yard at Arlington...

I didn't mention the enormous bridge near Arlington, part of the Thermopolis line, but I'll show you that in another chapter, later on...

For now we 'll continue to Olympia. There are only two stations before we reach Olympia Central.
First Crowley...

and so Silverton...

Quite nice. I'd love to run trains on it. I'm still fighting a Vista/TRS2004 problem, so I haven't been able to run Trainz for two months. Is your route in TRS2006 or TRS2004?

I know that I'd have hours of fun running it! :D

@ Gisa:
I let you know when I need beta testers!

@ GregGraham:
I make this layout in TRS2004.

@hoboron:
It will be on the DLS, if it doesn't exceed the maximum mb limit for uploading. (I don't know yet what size a cdp will be right now, but the uncompressed route folder is about 60 mb).
Tracks are from "Betriebsleiter" (username-see DLS).

Chapter 5a

Kimballton - Thermopolis

Today we take a scenic ride on a single track branch line.

Smokin!

Lookin' smooth!

Honestly, I have to say that looking at your work really inspires me! :) I am just planting the foundations of my own route (hopefully around 50 kilometres or so - I've got the mainline track 90% laid and I'll be putting in industries and sidings over the weekend hopefully). I'm getting some great ideas from your work and I feel that all great artists need some sort of inspiration at some point (mind you I'm not a great artist!) ;) I really like your stories too (I will be doing a few of my own once I get enough of a route going to actually post pictures :D ).

Just out of curiousity, what kind of system specs are you running? ^^ I will be upgrading my computer next month (and perhaps getting another gig of ram on top of the 1 I have already) but am just curious...

Gisa ^^

Oh last thing...don't hold me to this, but I suspect that the max upload for a route .cdp is 30 megs, although I could be wrong. If that is the case, what you could do is burn it to a cd and mail it to Auran who would then upload it to the DLS or somehow, split up the .cdp (although how to do that is *way beyond* beyond me).

Thank you Gisa. I think the screenshot forum is thé ultimate inspiration source for all of us.
By the way: good luck with your route! :)

Just out of curiousity, what kind of system specs are you running?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Socket
LGA 775, 4 mb
Gainward GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB GDDR3,
2x Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB CL5

Wow those are some high specs!

Here are mine, which I am thinking are on the lower end of an average system:

AMD Athlon 64 3200 + (2.0 GHz), 1024 MB ram, NVIDIA GEforce 7600 GT (256 MB)...still if I do have a chance to Beta test then it'll be interesting to see how it performs on that kind of system.

Hehe my gf promised me that she'd either pay for an upgrade as a late bday present at the end of August or that she'd let me spend what I wish to upgrade it. :D The first thing I'll be doing is getting a new motherboard and plopping in some dual cores in there with perhaps more memory. :D

BTW, I noticed in your shots that you are using a beige/cream coloured bus and an orange/peach shelter. Would you be so kind as to let me know what KUID's they are? :D Thanks!

Gisa ^^

You can easily find the bus (there are different types) by searching for username "killerkrabbe" on the DLS.
The orange shelter is a built-in asset (look under "modular station" in surveyor).

Cheers,
Pieter

Thanks Pieter for the information. :) Unfortunately, one limitation of the DLS is that users of different languages use different words for the same thing. :D I never would have found those buses otherwise...:'(

I also found the shelter...thanks! I missed it because I have a lot of downloaded items...enough said. :)

Keep us posted with the pics! :D :udrool: :mop:

I'm off to lay some more track...

Gisa ^^

Hello everybody!

After a pause for some months it's time for the next chapter,
but before that, I give you an update of the progress.
In fact the layout is ready for upload, the cdp file is waiting on my HD!
However, there is a problem: it is too big for the download station (25,1 mb).
And then this already is a reduced version, as I have removed part of the unfinished Arlington-Thermopolis line.
(Now the line begins at Arlington Central and ends three stations later at Mount Pleasant).
I definitely do not want to amputate the layout more than this, so the question is what to do.
Maybe some of you have a solution or maybe not.
I'm sorry, but as my e-mail program doesn't allow me to send such big files, it could happen that I just have to keep it for myself...

Chapter 6 :
Arlington Central - Kimballton.

It's 5:55 in the morning and the first train of the day to Kimballton is waiting at platform 7.

Departure time 6:06. The train is leaving the station.

...and leaving the station again.

Screen_244.jpg

At 6:23 we arrive at Kimballton, which is the terminal station for our train.
A connecting train coming from Olympia Terminal and continueing to Drake City and Russiatown, is few seconds of arriving at platform one. Scheduled departure is 6:26.
Look at the real time above on the screen, and note this train a little bit late.
This is because I use the "wait for random" driver command which also includes an automatic passengers load.
The use of the command gives a more realistic operation, as it can cause a train's delay.
