Don't people realise that servers can only handle so many lines at once. One cannot just say "make it 100 times bigger for the next 2 days". Even the mighty Microsoft's server was overwhelmed the first day we could pre-order Windows 7. I know because I tried and they eventually closed it because of overloading.
Trainz 2010 does not have anywhere near the demand that MS can generate, and that says it all really.
If Auran was hosted in a decent data centre there would be techs on call 24/7 to help with any problem, including overloading issues. An increase in server capacity could be set up in less than an hour no matter what timezone the data centre is in. - It would come at a cost of course, but it comes down to if you want to keep the customer happy. All this emailing the admin and he isn't awake yet doesn't really hold out too well.
Been trying for 12 hours now to download.. I am not bothered too much been playing some 2006 but is just the principle of this whole problem that is getting on my nerves. While Auran are not in the same league as the more popular game makers I am pretty sure Auran isn't being run from someone's shed at the bottom of a garden! lol
Tomorrow is another day
