Jesus saves ... but he will absolutely never, ever, SAVE your work ! (I think HE is a PC hater) !

You burn the dinner, and put off off doing the dish's... because you are too busy in surveyor in Trainz ... and then the little lady of the house comes home, unexpextently ... and gives you the 3rd degree: "What have you been doing all day, playing on the computer" ?

What do you absolutely hate ?

I know how you feel about that route issue, cascade. I spent 4 hours creating the perfect map to run my small british steamers, the night before the Penn State Blue/White game, when, all of a sudden, I wake up at 12AM on Saturday, and see the POWER WENT OUT AT 11:30 PM (stupid car hit a utility pole, and set a transformer on fire), which destroyed my route. 4 hours of work GONE!

When you never clean your PC screen ... and put off vaaccuumming the PC desk ... and the PC intakes clog ... the PC overheats, and shuts down ... PootChewwww ... all cause you are too busy in surveyor, to break out the vaaccuumm cleaner ?

You are playing your safe and sane Trainz video game, in the same room with your little lady ... and she's watching some gothic warrior TV show, or CSI Vegas... and she out of the blue, suddenly screams bloody murder ... "OMG ... AHHHH" !!! ... and you hear a Whosh, Sploot, Gash, Gore, sound effect, and look away from you safe and sane Trainz video game ... and see a disgusting, greusome, CSI crime scene ... and you have nightmares all night long ?

What do you absolutely hate ?

In the early morning, the Kat jumps off a the window sill, and scratches you on the foot, when you are in bed ... then the little lady hides all the oven mitts, and and you try to pick up 375 degree molten bacon grease, and actually try to pick up fire outa' the oven, wit' yer' bare hands, and then have a blister on yer' 2 fingers (on both hands) and now have a Kat scratch tear on yer' old toe bone ... and the blisters get in the way of yer' typing, and yer' footz hurtz so much, that you can't concentrate, on surveyor in Trainz ?

What do you absolutely hate ?

Yes I hate when That happens. Myself, I'm a true hater of Murphy.:hehe: When everything is going just right, he strikes. Something like backing up two years of work, to only not be able to find the case of disks with the backup work. Frustrated that you did all the right thing to save your work, and it's still gone. Yes I surely do hate Murphy, and know exactly you're feeling. Ahh the draw backs of virtual railroading:D

You spend most of the day downloading a new route, repairing assets that are faulty, tracking down missing dependencies on obscure foreign websites in languages that not even Google Translate can understand, but you finally have everything—nothing faulty, nothing missing. You look at the clock. You’ve got a couple of hours before dinner. Plenty of time to pop the top on a cold, frosty one and finally drive the route. At that moment your wife comes in and says “Shouldn’t you be getting ready? We’re due at (insert social function that you’ve totally forgotten because you really didn’t want to go in the first place) in an hour.”

Spend hours working on stuff in surveyor and think i will just do this next set of points and save all the changes, as you hate how auto save always tries to save just when your in mid fix so you turned it off, and the puter freezes. so after trying everything else to save the situation and a lot of cursing you admit defeat and turn the power of to reboot the computer and think as it restarts about all you had done which is now lost. finally get to restart trainz only to have it decide it now needs to do a data base update and due to size of install you know it will take all night so you curse some more decide to go watch some movie with the boss lady and for the next 30 min all she says is how she dont know why you enjoy trainz so much as you are always cursing at the computer when you play it!

My response is usually to remind her how much FUN my old N gauge model train was (and how much room it took and how she claimed it was always messy) and how much she prefers my boxed trainz!

HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE

Good Evening All
The last few (not sure exactly when) editions of Trainz have included an 'auto-save' system, which we recommend having enabled in case of such an event. It does mean you might (and most likely will) see a pause for a few seconds when it saves, however this saves you hours or re-doing the work. The setting for this is found in the in-game options, accessed by going to the 'main menu' drop down on the top toolbar, then going to options.

As of TS12, Trainz also saves a separate 'autoback' copy of the route (and session, if appropriate) if Trainz crashes (this may actually be saved when the auto-save occurs, however I have not checked this). This may not get saved when your computer shuts down on you or similar, but it will generally save the route if Trainz crashes. As to if the route is un-corrupted, this would really depend on how/when/where/etc the crash occurs, but it's always worth checking it ;)

Zec,

I cant speak for the others here but i believe this thread could equally be titled dont you feel like a dumb idiot AKA the lighter side of mistakes WE make with trainz. Think we have all done one or more of these things and can chuckle about them in hind sight

Don't worry, I've done more than my fair share of silly things... Both within Trainz, and when creating other content :P

Another one, and this is useful if you change something and then want to look at how it was previously... When working on larger routes, I actually use 'Save As' to save the route, and then save incrementally. This basically means you put a number on the end of the name, then increase this for each 'save as'. So, your first save is 'My Route - 001', then the next 'save as'/'save' would get the name 'My Route - 002', and so on :)

When you are stuck cant do a thing either in trains or with the computer and your 2 yr old gran-daughter comes up and presses a couple of keys and everything works perfectly. knew teaching her about puters at 18 months old was a mistake but funny too when she formatted the hard drive of her fathers computer because he wasnt paying attention:hehe:

Or...

You've spent hours in Surveyor getting the best yard layout you've ever created. The tracks are perfectly smooth and the junctions are tweaked so they're not twisted. The buildings are the perfect choice with the best looking and realistically placed sheds, towers, etc. all fitting perfectly.

Then... You exit from Surveyor and hit no instead of yes to save!

Or...

Your cat decides it's time to jump up on the computer desk to get in your face cuz she loves you only to step on the keyboard and zap it!
