Does Trainz work at all?

My wife bought me an engineer's edition of Trainz for Christmas. I have installed it twice, and it still won't run, and have even run it as Administrator -- all to no avail. The little icon accepts the click, and the Window pops up asking if I allow Aura to acccess my computer, then nothing happens -- the program doesn't load!

I am running Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit, I have a 3Ghz dual-core Pentium4 processor, 2Gb of RAM, 690Gb of free space on my drive, ATI Radeon HD video, a ATI HD audio card, and the machine was designed for games.

It acts as if no DLL is loaded for the game. Any ideas?

Disable all a/vs, stop firewall, turn off internet, if possible install in a separate drive from your o/s and above all be patient and take your time.

Check Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and see if either TADdemon or something like TranzUtil.exe are running. If so just let it be, there is a database issue it is trying to resolve. It can take a while - a LONG while...

I just advised another person with a similar problem and they are now up and running. The advice was that when installing the auto-installer will come up, exit out of this and go back to your desktop. Then locate the disk from your computer and find the installer program. Right click on that and then select "Run as Administrator" and the program will run/install. You should not be asked each time you want to run the program if you wish to run it (what ever). To me this indicates it is not installed properly though I may be wrong, not the first time :hehe:

The advice on making sure your Internet and Anti-virus programs are turned off (I disconnect from the internet at the modem completely) and any other program that is not need is very important as well.

Hope this Helps you out,

Craig

It runs under Win 7 without problems. It is very demanding in machine resources and uses odd bits of windows drivers that many other programs don't so check to see if there are any driver updates available for your motherboard and video card. Then start by reinstalling this time disabling any antivirus software.

There are two display options openGL the default and DirectX sometimes one works better than the other. Typically DirectX gives better frame rates. I run in an admin account but I have an internet connection running which I don't disconnect.

TS2010 can make use of 4 gigs of memory if you have them available and it makes a difference on some of the more demanding routes but you need 64 bit win 7 to make use of this.
