Do you remember when the Newsletters contained news ?

Trainz Tragic since 2002
Any one else think they could contain a little more news? The last couple of Auran Newsletters have been basically just advertising for repackaged/old products.

I can't recall the so-called newsletter containing any news for a long, long time. I suppose the issue that preceded the release of TRS2009 was a trifle exciting, but newsletters to me are meant to keep people informed, not flog a product that most of us already have. There's nothing worse than being told that if you had waited for the newsletter you could have had it cheaper. Maybe Auran should tell us when one of the staff has a cut of tea or goes to the toilet. That should brighten our day.

For Euphod, if he missed it:

newsletter [newsletter@auran.com]

The headline is:

SALE - End of Financial Year

You can interpret... End of Financial Year...as that time when Auran closes its "books" for year end reporting to Shareholders, Banks, creditors, etc. And NO, a corporation does not need to have its fiscal calender match the traditional calender that we use.

Obviously, the "Newsletter" that we have seen on June 19 and today, June 29, is an attempt to enhance revenue and, hopefully, bottom line earnings for the financial year end cycle.

While there is a substantial concern regarding the release date of SP2 for TS2009WBE and any new products that Auran may have in development, we need to support them so that the Trainz game continues for our enjoyment.

We also need to support Auran to allow them to continue this Forum and the DLS.

So please, do not critique Auran for tying to enhance sales and continue the game we all enjoy.

With warmest regards,

aardvark1, we'd probably support them a heck of a lot more if someone at head office took a lousy five minutes of their fiscal time to tell us some news. Otherwise we could, and maybe should accuse them of spamming. Sending emails like that to people who already have Trainz isn't going to boost sales.

I reckon a large part of Auran's and Trainz early success was due to their encouragement of the development of a Trainz community. Editorial (not just Advitorial), news from TOTR, news of interesting content contributions from the community, and even a little humour and gossip - all fostered the growth of the Trainz franchise. The recent Newsletters seemed to have 'dropped the ball' in this regard. My intention in starting this thread was not to knock Auran (well, perhaps just a little !), Rather, I hoped to prompt a little discussion, and to see how others felt about the current 'official' Newsletter.
If they are going to go to the trouble and expense of sending the things out, they need to at least offer some reason for us to read them !

Phil.

hmmm it appears I somehow got off the mailing list...but by the looks of it I'm not missing much.

Yep, people read news papers for the news in the first place, not for the ads. The Auran/Trainz newsletter is the ONLY news letter I am subscribed to, just for that reason. Don't mind it having a few ads, But the news items was what I subscribed for in the first place. :)

Not unlike you like ads. :hehe:

News makes a welcome return to the Newsletter !

Was good to read about the Caufield Exhibition. More please.

It was indeed. Let's hope that the folks at Auran can sharpen their pencils and continue supplying us with a little bit of news. Thanks Zec. Greatly appreciated.
