do people really dont play multiplayer alot

I see your point, but for a lot of people it is overly complicated.

On my N-scale layout...5X11 ft...modestly extended from the Salt Lake Route in Model Railroader 2010 series, we can acomodate 3 crews, each of engineer and conductor, with wired cabs (got to get wireless soon!).

We use the MicroMark waybill system....start and stop any time. If I don't have an extra crew, I just run an extra freight, and work around a scheduled passenger that is computer timed.

Anyone can bring any equipment, the only caveat being that motive power has to be DCC equipped.

So, other than that, we don't have to synchronize our routes or sessions....and don't have to worry about everyone have exact duplicates of every item. I can physically carry my California Zephyr set to my brother's layout and run it, although it is a long ride from NC to Ohio!

We just can't do that in Trainz, as a lot of my content is payware, as is his, althought different than mine. Having the utmost respect for intellectual property rights, we do not exchange payware...so...I have a lot of CSX items...he has a lot of SP/UP stock payware.

Perhaps there should be "generic" substitutions in Trainz for mutiplayer sessions...just a thought. Swap out my SD40 CSX for your SD40 SP automatically as I send you a train.

Just random late-night thoughts....we're still trying to figure out a workable system.

hi

i have no interest in multiplayer

it was hard enough to run a simple route when i had the older pc

i do not like my gaming pc to be on the net

too many other things need to be on to protect it
and that takes away memory from the game

I had my first go of multiplayer only recently, with a cheery bloke called Woofy. He gave me a few pointers to ensure I was up and running in minimal time and off we went.
It was the Mojave route and had to update it, but that took less than 5 minutes.
It was Awesome. Just Awesome.
Thundering along side by side with huge consists at 67mph. He got the jump on me severely so I had to ditch some extra weight and in the process of doing so, I didn't pay enough attention to the switches ahead and derailed in the end.
We had no specific objective during this session, we just wanted to crack 'em open and see how they went. THE SOUND :-O
O M G, thundering sub woofer with 9 engines on full throttle! \o/
I am going to request a multiplayer thread in suggestions as wow, it really rocks.

I like to also add its not easy committing a route to muiltyplayer so most ppl would get furstaed trying and give up. bleave me I been trying with a few routes 5 times and smilpey given up. inorder to make a muildyplayer may you need to all most completey rebuild a map. and its allot of extra work.

There's no prize for posting, except the derision and scorn of those that believe it holds some significance. :hehe:

C'mon .............. Hamlet aside, do you actually believe any of us put significance on your postings?

:hehe:

i am gonna give everyone my opinion, for all the ones that wanted multiplayer, you should just kind of be patient, sometimes things take time to become mainstream.i have started a multiplayer session as well and noone ever joined, in ts2010 i had alot of fun with it, and alot of people were playing multiplayer towards the end, right before ts12.

I like mulitplayer

I guess I am one of the odd people out because I enjoy mulitplayer. I try to host or participate once a week, usually on the weekends. Usually if I stay on for a while shunting or running a train or two eventually a few others will join.

Unfourtunately you pretty much have to commit about two hours to a session. It is disapointing when a player will log on, derail and leave or leave with his train in the middle of no where (Mojave) and not bring the abandon trains location to the host.

I had a very enjoyable session with several players Saturday and there was one who stuck it out to the very end and his comment was, "first time I've made the whole trip".

I do wish there were some additional tools for hosts to use to and locomotives, trains and maybe some comprehensive instructions for host, but we get by with what in TS12 and love it.:)

Me and a group of friends have used the iportals to exchange cars back and forth on routes we built
For the last couple of years .
We were at a model train show here in town and saw trainz 2012 for the first time.
As we sat in a restaurant we discussed how we could have one of are layouts that we all shared
And have op sessions and each week we would have a op session on some one else layout
I think we will use rodger wilco and the host would be the dispatch .

Would anyone be interested in a multiplayer that you play in-house, like on 2 conmputers on the same home network? Like a few posters here, I go to Trainz to get away from it all, put my headphones on and turn up the music.

However I have a grandson who fights with me for Trainz computer time when he comes to visit (not really, but it seems so). If we each had a registered copy on each of 2 computers on the same network, we could run a route together in the same room.

Has this ever been considered? Maybe I'm still catching up and it exists already.

AVG for me, Free and simple, does the job great without using much of the computers resources..
As for MP. I have tried and tried to join in on sessions only to be told that versions are not compatible or something is not on the DLS or it is on the DLS but IT's not compatible with my version and so on so on.
Plus you have so many kids making so many versions of the same session all the time you just can't keep up with them (JimmySD40's mp session 1, JimmySD40s MP session 42, JimmySD40s MP session version 527!!!)
How many do you need to release in one week, Geez?
Oh hang on, JimmySD40 has just released an updated version,MP session version number 634.79, OUT NOW.

The best thing they could do because M-Player was not so successfull is make a patch to make TS12 compatible with all older version of Trainz
and those who wish to keep multiplayer don't install the patch
steve

I'd more likely to get TS12 and play MP if they have a dedicated server .exe. There are some of us who have access to dedicated servers on very high speed connections that would put up a server and leave it up. You would probably draw more interest it you had known servers up and running 24/7.
