Multiple projects

I remember watching my dad as he worked on his physical model railway. It was fascinating to see the dedication to detail, with each tree, building and piece of track meticulously placed, just-so, not a millimetre left or right. And being a scratch builder, the countless hours it took to turn raw brass into a locomotive. To a similar extent other modelers I knew did the same thing, more or less.
One thing that they all had in common was that they worked on one layout, the lucky ones in whole rooms while most confined to a corner.
Which is were I and probably everyone else differs in the the fact that multiple projects can be active at the same time. It's almost impossible for boredom to set in for as soon as interest in one flags, I can turn to another for a fresh challenge. Perhaps the only downside is that the end seems to recede ever further into the future, although my father with his single layout was also never really finished. There was always just one more thing to do.
Thanks to Trainz, I can keep the tradition of a railway going, without the sawdust and the limited space.
