Right try a different approach. If anybody uploads content to DS for trs2009 using CM2 without bump maps, LOD or whatever, what happens. ............ That is forgetting ALL the previous versions just making the file with the new CM2, what happens then? Just pretend it is a newcomer that knows nothing about previous versions and ONLY has trs2009 and CM2. Maybe nothing and the DS is still being updated for the new procedures?....... Will leave it at that otherwise this thread is going around in circles. Has anybody uploaded new content using CM2 without normal maps, no LOD, etc? B
Why use "CM2" for uploads as you call it? I haven't got my TRS09 DVD yet, so I can not check this myself in TRS09 but why not create your new content the way you always have, say, for TRS04, 06, TC, make a CDP in any of these versions you are comfortable using for testing with an old version number in the config.txt, then test it in TRS09 and see if this then loads there as well? In most cases it WILL load, so why limit yourself to just one version of TRS, after all as said further above, not everyone will buy or use TRS09.
I did the above testing of some of my new creations as I guess others did too with the Betas, the point is, you still can use your new creations in TRS09 if so desired but others without TRS09 can use them too. So what is the problem with this? You either use normal maps or you don't, this is entirely up to you and if people think your new creation is worthwhile to d/load, they sure will do so.
No one says you have to create exclusively for TRS09, most of the older content will work in TRS09 anyway, that is why one would test this in TRS09. Although some old content had some normal maps in it, it is NOT mandatory for your creations to have them also. See what I mean?
But on the other hand if you want to use normal maps for some of your creations sometimes down the track, why not try creating with them yourself instead of "fearing" it might bite you in the proverbial. If you run into problems, just ask here. After all, one does have to start somewhere and this is by learning and doing it. As normal mapping does indeed work with GMax and the 4.2-3DS Max plugin, so there is no need yet to invest in 3DS Max. Or later on the clever people working with Blender will also come up with some tutorials for normal mapping etc.
I hope I made this a bit clearer
Cheers
