DLS again - sorry !

I have been trying to make the DLS work in 2009 and despite following all the good advice from other Forum Members I have:'( been unsuccessful.
I am considering going back to 2006 but will lose about two months work - I assume the route I started in 2006 and continued with 2009 is not backward compatible.
The DLS validates my details and firstclass ticket and does everything even shows "downloading" but in fact does not do so.
I have tried with the anti-virus and firewall turned off. It is strange because my second PC does exactly the same and it not connected in anyway - not even the same modem. Help Desk tell me my profile etc is ok and nothing is wrong their end - this is the only common denominator.
I tried an FTP program and also Trainz Downloader Pro - will not go that extra bit and download (I am not trying to download existing objects).
TRS 2006 is looking better by the minute.
Any observations to help me keep my sanity will be appreciated.

Just a thought, what are you trying to download?

For testing, I'd suggest something that is known to be error free (I've had a few cases where I couldn't download because the object (or one of its dependencies) was faulty.

The CMP & CM2 just sit there with 0.0 download speed....

For 2009, try one of the new 2009 textures (they worked on my CM2), you can verify if they will download by ftp (by using the old DLS page and selecting them there.)

Last thought - you've turned the firewall & anti-virus off - do you connect PC to Internet - or via a router/modem? Most of the routers also have a firewall... (we have a small home network, so there is a firewall in the router + software firewall with the virus checker on each PC).

Thanks Colin for the input. Connecting with Modem (no router).
I tried some of the TS09 textures - if I select one already installed it goes to idle - this is as expected. Selecting uninstalled item just goes to downloading and stays there - no result.
Using FTP it just times out with cannot find webpage - but surely if it was an error with password/username the DLS would not validate.
I am thinking of installing TRS2006 on same drive with 09 - anyone know if this will cause any more problems or run ok.

and then if your symptoms are the same as mine the contact the helpdesk using the bottom at the top of this screen.

I do have the helpdesk looking at my problem no joy just yet.

Basically, for some reason or other, I /WE have lost access to the

"/Restricted/trainz/TRAINZ2009" folder(s)

Read my thread particularly the later post of mine where I explain fully what the problem is.

Hopefully this will get sorted soon..................

Thanks Laurie - I cannot download anything - 2004 objects to 2009.
It does seem to be a "block" accessing the website - I tried Helpdesk and the suggestions were so fundamental that they were all tried and forgotten weeks ago !!
I do not know if it helps to know I am not alone - I suppose it does point to a common denominator and not something I have missed.
Keep watching and waiting - it will be overcome I am sure !!

All of you are not alone

I have been trying to download sense Nov 2008 and now have 34 days left on my FCT and we have done everything turn off firewall hook direct to modem and countless other things change password rebuild data base that is just in
TRS 2009 and we decided to go back to TRS2006 good luck we have lost the ability to download to that also so now I have no programs that download for trains. Hope it gets fix soon

I partly understand what you are saying - how do we check if the port is blocked - I (and I"m sure others) will check and try anything suggested.

Any chance you could take one of your PC's round to a friends house who connects via a different ISP?
 
Thanks for the idea - it does occur to me that this is "worldwide" from the forum post information and I doubt the chances of very many using the same ISP. I will try as anything is worth exploring.

could it be a port on your isp that is blocked???

Hi I have called my ISP about 2 weeks ago just to ask him that same ? to see if they are blocking any ports but he told me they don't block anything all they provide is a way to the web. I was so ready for the other answer would be so simple.

One other thought: Are you running the most recent versions on the .net framework?

IRRC CMP uses .net 1.1. Don't know about CM2.
 
Ron This happened to me last year and we (including HD) tore our hair out. What had happened was that altho we have two computers, the better half and I, we both had the same ISP address which only needs one number changed. From memory the line read xxx-xxx-xxx-9
My computer, because it was the secondry one had to read 10. When this was changed, all the things you mentioned began to work. Helpdesk can,t help you because the prob is not at there end.

Had a look at the possibilities but I assume your two PCs were using the same Modem/Router. In my case the PCs are using seperate modems (same address) and are not connected at the same time - the only common link is the telephone line which is connected to the modem as required. I think the problem is in the modem setup area but whether a setting is incorrect is a job to determine.

This thread is probably getting too old but here goes.
Just discovered that after trying to download from DLS it puts a image in - Auran/TS2009/Cache/Thumbnails. If it cannot connect to the remote server where does this image come from ? Seems to contradict itself.

So let me get this clear; when you click on a download station item in the Content Manager main window, a thumbnail and description eventually appear in the Asset Details panel (after anything up to a minute in my experience).

If so, then as you rightly point out, at least part of the comms link is working OK.

You know from my previous thread that I was having a similar (same) problem as you are having.

The difference being I could download anything EXCEPT TS2009 assets.
It's fixed now and to fix it I had to change my password in my profile.

Weird ay? I could log on the forums, download station, three versions of Content Manager, Trainzdev as well as Planet Auran all with the same password I have been using for yoinks.

But could not download any asset for TS2009.
In Content Manager: If I dragged an item to the download helper it would do all the normal things such as size of item, any dependencies it may need, the thumbnail & description would be displayed in the Asset Details window.
Clicked Start it would say "Downloading" Then "Idle" but no download happened. If I clicked on the item in the Download Helper window it would turn red and a tooltip would display "Unknown Content Error"

In the download station: Select an item. "Download Helper" would just do the same as in Content Manager.

However I could use "Add To Cart" and it would put the item in the cart. But of course not download it.

In Download Page: All the information would be shown but "Download (ftp)" would tell I didn't have access.

Changed my password - all fixed!!

If you have not previously tried it - give it a go - can't hurt.

I have since changed it back to what it was originally and all is well.

BTW: The helpdesk assured me that everything as far as they could check looked correct. I had all the right access allowances etc.

I got quite excited and changed all password (forum-profile etc) but still no good.
The CMP has moved a step further - when I select an item and drag to DL panel if it has dependancies it now searches and lists the dependant items but when I select download it says downloading but it is lying to me !!
I checked with FTP downloading and it changed the password etc but says cannot connect to remote server.
My love affair with Trainz is taking a battering at the moment.
On my other PC I removed every reference to Trainz/Auran and installed TRS2006 and Service Pack 1 - all went ok. Installed another Modem and still no good - it surely has to be either in the program or website - Auran Helpdesk say not - but ???
