Dissapointed Upgrader

I have been enjoying Trainz since the first version. I have recently purchased the latest version and while I am impressed with the new content (the new routes are absolutely huge by comparison with all the routes I am used to). The downside for me is that all of the old content seems to be missing. So I can't make use of any of the sessions I have developed for the old routes. I guess I'll be spending a lot of time in trs2006 as I have a lot of time and effort invested and I'm not that happy to find its all unusable in the new version.

If you make a cdp of a route in 2006 you can import it into 2012 using content manager.
Locos and stock the same applies although some work would probably need to be done to get them to work in 2012.

Make that considerable work. I just moved some built-in and customized routes from TS10 to TS12 and in addition to numerous repairs and updates, it seems that many dependencies get left behind in the moving process. It is doable though, just requires some time, PEV's TOOLS and patience.

A bit late now I know, but TS2010 might have been the better bet. It has most, if not all, of the content included in TRS2006, plus some new routes.

TS10 is now pretty inexpensive, specially if you search around on-line. Just don't fall for a second-hand box which might already have been registered. TS10 gives you about 95% of the 'advances' in TS12 but does allow all of your TRS06 routes, sessions and content to be used. You can have TS10 and TS12 installed on the same machine as stand-alones and use TS10 as a much-improved platform for older content while reserving TS12 for all the sexy new stuff...

And don't get it from Steam, Gamersgate, or a third-party that modifies the game program, no matter how cheap they may be selling it.

I really enjoyed TS10 for over a year. Just about everything I had from 1.3 on up worked in compatibility mode. I had a project going to update my content to work in native mode (all blue dots) and was amazed how much smoother everything had become. Lags, Gone, jitters, Gone, even the very large and detailed routes loaded quickly and ran well. I figured if I could move most of my newly upgraded routes and assets into TS12, I could have the best of both worlds. Almost finished now and it is worth the effort. Everything looks sharper and more detailed in TS12, but I have to say that by far the most noticeable improvement is in the audio quality. The doppler effect during a run by is awesome, especially when using headphones. Once you experience it, there is no turning back. Just too bad that NV3 makes us rebuild our database to get there.

TS2010 DVD is currently on sale at Amazon UK for *£9.72. I do the same as Andy I use TS2010 to download routes etc and only if It is good enough copy them into TS12 thus keeping TS12 clutter free. I had SnC and Murchison addons in TS2010 which were easy to copy into TS12.
TS2010 also has compatibility mode so that old content can be used.

Ken

Or *£10.99 postage free. Usually arrives in a few days.

A lot of the older content is available on the Download Station for TS12 users. Have you checked that in CM?

kind regards,

chris

Blue dot = trainz-build 2.9 or later.

It doesn't necessarily mean it will work in Native mode - see the DLS clean-up faulty fixes thread for proof of that!

I can vouch for that statement. Changing the build date to 2.9 will give you a blue dot, but you still have to repair the errors, including the new ones caused by changing the build date.

Could somebody elaborate on this or provide a pointer to where it has been discussed? What is the issue with Steam?

Regards,

Rob.

There are several threads regarding this.

On the 3 most recent versions, this is the status:

TS2009: Build 38610 - may be updateable from what I've gathered.
TS2010: Build 43361 - non-updateable.
TS12: Build 47103 - non-updateable.

Reason stems from Steam not allowing direct patching of game (look on Google for the dispute relating between EA and Steam because of this).

You can always purchase TS2010 then copy the files into TS12. It takes a little bit of fiddling with, but it works fine. By doing this, I had all the routes from TS2010 plus all the content which needed some updates. The updates to the TS2010 content are now up on the DLS and this will fix the things that broke in TS12. They didn't break, per se. This has to do with the stricter error reporting which should have been there in the very beginning.
