Different each time

Good day; I have just installed TS12 for the third time.

The first time I uninstalled it because I was just sick of seeing warnings in the content manager. I had to use the revo uninstaller. I had not done much in this install except download stuff from different sites, so that was all I was loosing, and a lot of that was where the warnings were. I HAD to use revo because on the screen it said it could not uninstall because the file was corrupted.

When I re installed it things went slightly different than the first time. While looking for updates, I killed the content manger. I did not need revo to uninstall this time. There were a couple of files still on my machine, I searched for and found all of them, as far as I can tell.

On the third install, I saw a box that said something like "look for update patches", and both patches were found and installed. When I hit the "content" button(on the launcher screen), it just started doing all the updates. It was much quicker this time, like about 10 minutes.

I hope that's it for installing for awhile, although it seems to be getting easier each time. I'm going to take it easy looking for 1950's Canadian content this time and try to make sure there are no errors.

The content warnings are no issue so don't worry about them. The warnings are for older content that do not have the newly-enforced rules and specifications that were not in affect for the content when it was created. If you look at the warnings, you'll notice that they are for such things as missing thumbnail images or progressive meshes versus lod meshes.

It makes sense to use the Revo uninstaller. This is an excellent utility that I forgot to mention to someone in another thread. The broken uninstaller happened because of the patches. Some software updates, and not just with TS12 don't update the original installer configuration (.ini) files. When the original uninstaller tries to run, it bases its information on what's in the original .ini files. Because the file names are now different, it produces that error message.

When you perform patches, Trainz will request that a database repair run. Please perform the repair process. This is not fixing any broken items but instead updating the built-in items to the current version. This process can and will take some time depending upon how much content you have. When performing patches and updates, the best practice is to start the process and find something else to do away from the computer.

If you have Trainz start-up issues, this is usually related to turning the computer off before Trainz has closed completely. The screens maybe closed but there are background processes still in operation. To ensure that Trainz has closed, it is recommended that you turn on the processes console windows. To do this, do the following:

Start Trainz like you normally do.
Click on Options at the Launcher screen.
Click on the Developer Tab.
Check the box next to Show database process window.

Run Trainz normally.

A small command prompt will appear while Trainz is running. When you exit the program, this box can remain open for up to 5 minutes as the program cleans up open database files. When this box closes, it is safe to turn your computer off.

Hope this helps. I understand your frustration, but by doing this last process, this will save you the bother of having to reinstall often.

Hey John; I'm going to try this out later today. Before I have to feed the cats and birds, I have a question for you. I defrag every day. Since I first installed TS12, I have had thousands of fragmented files, today it was about 8,000. As I use the sim the number of fragmented files become less each time. It's no big deal, just curious about it. I like to have all 0's in defraggler. The only file that gives me any problem is WMITracing. It has 2 fragments. I can get rid of that just by turning user control off or on, and defrag again. It always comes back though, sooner or later.

Feeding the cats and birds sounds way too familiar. Are you sure you're not living at my house! We have a number of cats, a couple of parrots, a dog, and a bunch of wild birds we take care of. The half dozen wild turkeys visit daily for their cracked corn.

The sim will generate a lot of fragmented files because of the way it opens, writes, and closes files in its process. The more you keep up at the defragging, the less of an issue it'll be as you've noticed. WMITracing is a log file for the Windows Management. What you've observed is correct when you turn off the user control. I wouldn't worry too much about this because it doesn't affect your system performance. I know it's 2 frags on the drive that are driving you crazy. I too get into a snit about having a fragged drive. There are some things, I suppose that you have to just let be.

We have 8 cats now. I have to take our newest "gift" in to the vet tomorrow to get him neutered. Poor little guy! We live at the end of a road and every year or so someone dumps kittens on our land. Oh, I'd love to catch them! By the time we get them checked out and fixed, it's about 5 or $600.00. We do have the odd wild turkey up here, but I've never seen one, and I'm a bird watcher. We also feed a lot of wild birds. Of course this means we also feed a raccoon or two and anything else that enjoys bird seed. There's no stopping a raccoon from finding a way to empty the feeders, so I just gave up worrying about it. In case you did not know, woodpeckers love peanut butter (raccoon do, too).

Now for the important stuff! As far as the database repair goes; I did a "full" computer database repair a couple of days ago (by accident). Last night I ran the database repair from the content manger (quick and full) I received no messages about any problems. I cannot remember Trainz ever asking me to run a database repair.

About an hour ago I tried the "Show database process" thing. I ran TS12 for about 15 minutes, but I never saw the command prompt box. I'm not having any issues at start up. It takes a while to load sometimes, but it always starts and runs well. I'll make sure to not turn off the computer for for about 5 minutes after running TS12.

I'm glad you followed our advice on that. I've been guilty of this myself and this is why I tell everyone about the command processes. You'll see these as white box-things sitting on your taskbar at the bottom of your Windows screen. When they're gone, it's safe to turn off the computer.

We now have 6 cats; down from as high as 14. They were mostly strays or "Can we we keep thems" that were brought in by my sisters then left with us when they left for their own apartments. The cats that passed on were all quite elderly - mostly in their high teens and early 20s. Today I spent $350 on a vet bill for one of my cats that wasn't eating or using the box. She had a bug or virus and is doing okay now that I'm broke. I feel bad for the animals that are left to fend for themselves. There is no reason for people to do that and if caught, they should be fined severely!

We have quite the crowd of wildlife that visit our feeder as well. On any one day we'll have a coyote and her 4 pups, a fox, two racoons, a doe with two fawns, and even a young black bear once or twice. The bear was moved recently to the White Mountains where he'll be safe. The coyote lives up in the woods in the local sanctuary. Now if people got along as well as these creatures did, we'd have a much better world.

Morning John; A couple of hours later (after my last post) I did notice the box, I've seen 3 of them a couple of times, while working with the content manger. "Now, what have I done?", I thought. So, here's what I started doing; when I see a new box open, I wait for it to close, then move on to my next chore. There is always one box open, when that disappears, I figure it's safe to turn off the pc. I took a peak inside the boxes and can see what's going on. The more I learn about this sim, the more amazed I am by it. Even at full price, I think you really get a lot of bang for your bucks. When I first got this "devil box" and set it up, I thought, "Now what? Computer (a la Capt. Kirk).........do your thing!" Nothing. OK, it wasn't quite that bad. I started finding out how to get things done. It was about 6 months before I even new how to start a new paragraph with the enter key. I was typing entries into the files letter for letter, until I discovered copy, paste, etc. I guess we all started out this way. Oh, come on, some of you must have been as stupid as me!?

John, the world is just not the same, and who knows how much longer it will last. We really screwed it up. I mostly blame the super rich for this. We CAN count our blessings, because I've been to other parts of the world and seen a lot of people who would love to live the life the poorest people in our countries live. I love living in a natural area, so do our cats. They seem to know how to stay out of trouble. Haven't lost any to coyotes, bobcats, etc. I hope it stays that way.
