Destroyer

Hi Malc,
And thanks for the info. I have been told about notex but telling me about it doesn't mean I understand how to use it - whatever it is....!!

I'll use your link and download the Pev 'cure.
But I did try putting in a different tone texture myself on that grey and it did not cure the problem.

Cheers,

Angela

Hello Angela it was interesting reading about the types of ships you are making for Trainz and what they look like. I used to make sailing ships canals and docks in Trainz. Liverpool etc set in a time of a century or more ago. However Trainz became unsuitable several years ago for my interests and just make12 mile maritime routes for myself made in Blender and run in the Blender Game Engine. Barry:)

I'm making progress on my naval battle route. I found a handful of rather old american ships on the black pages. The detail isn't as good as yours, the paint's a little off, and they're pretty bad out of scale ie. his destroyer is almost as big as the in-scale USS Missouri battleship I found over on Military Trainz. I also dug up an SR-71 blackbird scenery item that now occupies the second aircraft carrier which I got from the guy mentioned above. There's also four of them flying over the US fleet. I also found a handful of German and Japanese ships at Military Trainz to use in the enemy fleet. I have 4 on the map so far (with their odd names, I have a hard time tracking them down in surveyor). Between the two, I have 2 aircraft carriers, 3 or 4 battleships, 5 U-Boats and a battlecruiser. I believe I also found a few British ships for the British fleet, I believe the HMS King George V is among them. Also tacked on an american ship or two from Military Trainz. All three fleets are coming along well. I've also placed a 430 ft tall island of land just north of the US fleet, on the edge of the baseboard so that it so that it doesn't get in the way too much. From this pedestal, you can see all of the fleets if your draw distance is maxed out. If it's at the default 1500 m, you couldn't see the back of the British fleet from the front of it. The original three US nuke subs that I had subbing in for U-Boats have been replaced by 5 actual U-Boats. I'm finishing off all three fleets with the assets I haven't placed yet, then I'll hopefully find a few more axis ships, and then the war will be on. Should be a lot of fun, there'll probably be over 50 ships overall.

Southern1951,
You have done remarkably well bringing together that amount of assets for 3 battle fleets, albeit that they are small fleets, but fleets nonetheless. Many would not know where to look, me included, so a big well done for your efforts.
It is interesting that there is a KGV available for use in Trainz as I was thinking of creating that very ship, probably next winter. I am uncertain whether or not to bother now.
At the moment I am awaiting the return of my best rifle so I can get practicing for the competition, but in the end I may not have time to get up to speed on that and may have to retire from this one. There will be more and with a greater span of time to get more used to a relatively new gun that would be better for my chances. I mention this because it will dent whatever time I have to make more models and try to get the texture thing sorted out, although that is a problem dumped into my lap by N3V, the texture, as I have often stated, is a perfectly good one and it is annoying and very frustrating to have to go through all this just to get that wretched Trainz version to accept it and one of the main reasons I hvae had my interest severaly diminished.

Please keep us all informed of your progress.

Angela

I would definitely build the King George V, there are super good ships and really bad ships over at Military Trainz, the bad ones are usually supposed to be lo poly models, regrettably, the King George V isn't one of the good ones. I'll get some screenshots up before I go to bed. Somehow, I ended up with 6 school projects due this week. No clue how it happened, it was only 5 before today, my science teacher kinda killed what little joy I had left this week. I'm awake right now because of one of those projects (Creative writing assignment. I'm a great creative writer, but it just takes forever, and the due date she gave us just doesn't fit my pace. So frustrating!). It sounds like it's frustrating like your texture problem only worse. All of those projects are driving me to the brink of insanity. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow after a long nap, a chunk of my workload goes away tomorrow. The war route is coming along well, I added a British military outpost to the island on my route (just missing the Union Jack). Might make it German though so that my bombers will have a target. Speaking of airplanes, I need to get to the aircraft thread, I've been meaning to ask for a few drivable planes. You have no idea how happy it'd make me to fly a F-15 Eagle, F-35 Lightning, or SR-71 Blackbird around a trainz route, those planes are some of the most incredible we have/had. Especially the Blackbird, I'd love to be hurtling around Trainz at Mach 3.2 in one of those. The F-15 and F-35 are the F-22's smaller cousins, they'll beat an enemy like a drum. But back on the topic of ships... I'm not sure how big the average Fleet/Task Force is, but I have around 20 ships in my US fleet, including two aircraft carriers and one of the projects you were looking into, a helicopter carrier. Just need some better helicopters than the ones I have right now, the 6 onboard the USS Wasp aren't even military helicopters, so I have work to do there. My British Fleet is approaching the size of the American Fleet, it has 3 Aircraft carriers, the two you made and the HMS Illustrious off of Military Trainz. The Illustrious is one of the good ones from MT, it's well detailed and has about two dozen planes on deck and shows another one coming up from one of the elevators. Great asset, if you ever end up doing something like this, it's certainly one I'd recommend. The MT site is in French, so you'd need to translate it. Just look through the links until you find the allied ships, then look for a WWII aircraft carrier with green planes on deck. Telecharge means download in French (One of the projects I have to do), so that'd be the button you're looking for. They have a lot of great ships, as well as airplanes and land-based assets. If an army uses it, then the MT might have it, you ought to give them a look. Here's the link to their allied ships.

Well, I need to finish up, been nice talking with you.

Hi Southern1581,
Wow, you certainly have been working well, so many ships. I am glad my kuid number didn't come up as the worst... haha.
The trouble is to make a decent ship the polys go sky high and there isn't much to be done about it. I spend ages on Hood taking out unwanted Faces but it made very little difference and cost me something like 4-5 hours work. On the other hand if the ship is skimped on detail then it looks just a grey blob on the sea. I noticed this on one of the the atomic carriers.
The new US aircraft are supposed to be the bees knees and there have been some programs on Sky about them. I think the RN are buying some for the new carriers under construction now for the Royal Navy.
I think you would need a pretty large layout to fly a Blackbird around it at Mach 3.2 else you will start at one end, blink and be off the other end .... Fantastic aircraft though, dear old Kelly was brilliant.

Thanks for all the screenies, I enjoyed looking through them, quite an education.

And talking of education, how are you getting on with the projects?

My time has been taken up shooting mainly. I have a lot of work to do before the competition starts so must get as much shooting in as I can.

Angela

I actually did get the blackbird scenery item shown to be drivable, doesn't go as fast as I want it to though. I tried playing around with the engine spec, and ended up making it slower than my F-16's. I think I'll stick to the scenery one for now. The projects came out fine, I lost a lot of sleep, but they're done, and with only 2-3 weeks left in school, hopefully homework should start to lighten up soon. Once summer starts, I might try my hand at ship building, don't think it'll come out so well though. I did see a neat video on how to make homemade rocket engines, combine that with a good bit of odd metal and a bit of circuitry, and I could do some real-life model ship building. Can't believe I just now realized the Hood was out, I'll download it, oddly enough, the ship you said had sunk the Hood, the Tirpitz, is out on that war layout. I was going to have my battleships go out and clobber the Tirpitz, but now I'm thinking rematch between the Tirpitz and the Hood. Yeah, the detail on that one guy's ships is pretty shabby, I have his nuke carrier, his helo carrier, his destroyer, his destroyer, and his guided missile frigate. I found some some and flame effects, so I have started the war, so far I've had both the frigate and the destroyer sink.

Here's the score:
Country---Ships sank
US-5
UK-1
Germany-2
Japan-0

Country---Aircraft destroyed
US-1 (they shot a helicopter while it was taking off. Haven't hit the blackbirds or my new F4F-4's)
UK-1
Germany-1 (They were trying to sink the Solebay. They sent in 4 bombers, and the Solebay hit one of them. The Solebay took 4-5 hits. She's flaming a bit up front and she's smoking all over the place, but she's still afloat).
Japan-No planes involved yet.

I too took some target practice. The following picture shows my luck out of ten shots:

Hmm, that's odd, the picture is sideways, I didn't take it like that. Oh well, you get the gist. I hit the target nine times (the tenth bullet hole is just under the target in the wood). Sad thing is, that was like ten yards out. My shooting is pretty bad. Needs a lot of work.

Eeek, the thread's dying again! Perhaps the beginning of a rematch will get things back up and running...

Somebody's shelling the Lutzow! Who's doing that?

It appears that there's a late entry to our fight. Here comes the HMS Hood!

Another angle.

That's it for now. The Hood is a true work of art, great job Angelah.

Hi Sourther1581,
Just wrote a response and went to upload it then it got stuck, so here we go yet again...

Good to see the Hood back in action and your interest in warships still active. I have stopped making them for the forseeable futture due to interest falling off almost completely apart from yours, so thanks for staying with it.
I have a life and am not prepared to sit at a PC for days on end making models that are not wanted. I say that as you seem to be one of the very few, maybe even the only one, who has bothered to post any shots and even text only posts are non-existant now.

So back off to shooting where my presence is required for the upcoming competition and boy oh boy, do I need to get practice in as I have some seriously hot people to beat if I am going to get anywhere at all.

Below is a shot of one practice mutli-target. I make these up from ordinary ones but stick on Shoot'N'C overlays so that once the black is broken the yellow underneath shows through.
My Daystate Air Wolf is now back from a serious overhaul (under warrantee) and is now behaving itself so I am happier with the results and the odd things it was doing have stopped.

Not bad for an oldie.... All single shots apart from the one double as the first was a bit off centre. Must do better though....

Keep up the good work and keep posting, I like to see what folk do with things I make.

Blessings,

Angela

 Wow! Very impressive! With school only a few days away from being out, I'm about to have a lot of time to myself, especially when I live in the middle of nowhere, so I'll have more time to get out and possibly shoot some. Who knows, I might hit three bulls eyes next time! (Yeah right!) If you don't want to make models due to lack of interest, that's fine, I'll still be here. Hopefully interest will pick back up one of these days. I have a lot of projects on my own plate, I keep picking up new skills for this simulator and every time I pick up a new skill, I become eager to use it, which results in a lot of projects.

The lack of interest is worrying me though. Usually someone with as much talent as you have a lot more posts on their threads (24 pages isn't that bad though, considering the fact that the release threads for my site generally don't get past page one and the release threads made by one of the most popular North American content sites aren't making it this far either). I'll think on this one, it's a real head scratcher.

G'day Angelah

I have still been following your posts in this thread, even though I have not partaken on the forum.
Looking at your target results, and knowing how much time you spend at the PC creating masterpieces, you could all but refute
the claim that staring at a computer monitor ruins your eyes.
I'm really going to make sure I don't get you mad!
Glad to see you are getting out and about in the spring sunshine and enjoying your favourite pursuits.
PC modelling is a winter thing.

Cheers

Hi to you both,
Yes, the weather here in May hasn't been half bad although there was a rainy cold spell, but last Bank holiday it was scorching and the past few days have been most pleasant. You just cannot sit indoors at times like that so I am off out, usually to the rifle ranges. I love shooting, or to correct that, target shooting, I do not go out and kill animals, not even pests. The challenge is similar to working in Gmax and Trainz, getting it right and bang on target and I suppose that's what I like about both, they push you to do better all the time.
What has really pee'd me off with Trainz are the texture problems N3V have brought in and it was making life quite difficult for me. I don't mind trying to get textures right but when I did that and then got them rejected, well, that really riled me.
So if/when I return to the keyboard and Gmax I will make only for older versions so if folk want my models in the latest Trainz versions then it will mean them doing a great deal of fiddling about to get them to work. It is possible and I now have PEV's Image2TARGA utility that might help with single textures and I hope will stop the same thing happening again.
It seems that what N3V are going down the route of the most efficient way of using textures, but in ships there are a great deal of Cylinders and using a Texture Map (a collection of various textures in a single Targa file) means having to edit every single part of every Cylinder to that small part of the Texture Map required and some Cylinders are quite small so it becomes a nightmare and wastes a lot of time. Plonking a single texture on means I only have to UVWmap the object and it's done.
So a single texture for later versions of Tranz gets rejected on Upload. Not remarkably helpful really....
Unfortunately this will mean my products only going to the TPR site after I test them in as many Trainz versions as possible to find to cut-off ceiling where this problem comes in.

My other interest of about 30 years ago was music, I had a cabinet Farfisa electronic orgen with a rotary speaker and that allowed it to make the rapid wow-wow sounds in notes rather like the cinema organs of past years. It was a beautiful piece of furniture as well as a useful instrument and I played boogie-woogie on it amongst other things. But I always really wanted a piano accordion and now I have ordered one, a 34 treble key 72 bass button Rossini. So I am waiting (impatiently) for that to arrive. It will be quite different from an organ so it means really starting over again and my skills at music reading have faded dramatically with the passings years as well so I must brush up on that area. A pleasant way of passing the evenings instead of watching the rubbish on the telly.

It all happens here, I tell you, I am 75 but not stuck in a groove... haha.

Blessings,

Angela

That's cool, pursuing other interests. I play piano fairly well, guitar so-so, and drums if I didn't have to use my brother's tiny drum kit. Music come to me naturally. Only one in my family that's really musically inclined. Well, today was the last day of school. I survived! I'd say TS09 is the cut-off you're looking for, I know they work properly in it but I don't think they do the same in anything higher. I have two engines that are starting to get close to completion, and I have no idea how to map! That is going to be an interesting process to learn, as I plan on having a good bit of detail on them. Hope to get outdoors a good bit this summer, work on rehabbing my shoulder a bit more (I play baseball. I'm also a pitcher and I throw pretty hard, anywhere from 69-73 mph on my fastball, so I have to keep that shoulder in good shape, it's the most crucial part of my throwing arm. If my shoulder goes, I can't pitch. If I screw up my shoulder again, then it'll probably be my last season, it barely bounced back this time and I don't think it'll do it again).

I have a lot of trainz plans and now that summer vacation has started, I'll have a lot of time to get them done. I just completed a reskin today, and with a little work, I can get myself doing it faster until I have it down well enough that I can do good ones really quickly, today's was about 2-3 hours in the making. I also have a handful of routes to finish and a battle to continue on with. I also have plans to help out a friend, his sites struggling a bit, so I'm temporarily leaving my own site to help out on his. I'll still update my site, all of my content for the next month or so will just be on his.

Well, I have to other reskins planned for today, so I'd better get busy. Been nice talking to you!

So our angela is a closet rocker in the making...lol Similar interests to me music wise. I like to play my Yamaha ps36 keyboard every know and then plus I sometimes like to play along to the "Shadows" with my "Fender" guitar and "Peavey VYPYR30" amp. It makes a change from Trainz when i have an off day. You come back when you are ready. I always enjoy using your assets and i wait patiently for your future releases when you return.

Regards Dave.

I do want to say, Angelah, that like several others, I have been following this thread with considerable interest, even if I have not posted of late. HMS Amethyst and HMS Solebay are both currently on ASW picket duty outside my harbor, whilst Exeter, Hood, and Daring are sailing with the Essex-class carrier Ticonderoga on coastal patrol duties...keeps the odd surface- and merchant raider out, eh? :hehe:

Of course, to add even more hilarity to the scene, KMS Tirpitz happens to be on hand as well...I hear the boys on Hood are keeping a close eye on her.
