Destroyer

Hi Angela; You don't have to tell ME twice! Hee, hee. As soon as I saw that news flash, I was on my way! She's now sitting in the best possible place for viewing. She's more than I could ever hope for. I'm now trying different admin buildings, etc., trying not to let anything block the view of any of the ships.

Ah, it's bringing back memories of when I was a bad little boy. Playing around the train yard, messing about the harbour, going home covered with tar. There was no sense lying, my clothes and hands always told the story of where I had been.

The Maggie and all the ships are a dream come true for me. There is no way I can ever thank you enough!

I must get back to the dockyard and make it worthy of the ships.

Cheers, you've made this old fella very, very happy........Rick

Hi Rick,
Glad you like my efforts and if they make you happy then I am as well.
I got the Stringbag onto the decks of the Maggie but found they looked a bit big. When I checked in Gmax the wing span was over length which meant everything else was. So clicked every single part, Grouped the aircraft and Scaled it back a bit to 14 metre span.
They still look big but do sit much better on her decks and she was a light feelt carrier so was smaller than the likes of the Ark etc I must get Ark into Tranz to check her size soon to.
So a second Swordfish is about to land on her this time in a wartime cammo and the tird one will have folding wings. That will take a bit longer and I have to made new wings. When Vulcan has the Seafire done that will be good and if I get time I might try my hand at another the Banshee maybe.

Enjoy your ships, more coming....

Blessings,

Angela

Will this help with dimensions...Scroll to bottom of page...http://www.spitcrazy.com/faireyswordfish.htm

That's a handy link, thank you for posting it.

I did get the dimensions off of Wikipedia, it was just me transfering them properly. having scaled it down now the wings are the correct width.

Unfortunately I made the fuselage out of a Tube and I just discovered that taking boolean cut out if these means there is a hole the other side, for some reason looking through a Tube means the far side is invisible. So I have to make the fuselage again. Shouldn't take too long (famous last words...) and out of a Box this time. I learn a little each time I make new models and discover the good and bad points of Gmax.

There was a point made in one carriers description that extensions were put on the edges of the flight deck to get that little bit more width. This meant the tail wheels could be put on the extension and so create space for aircraft movement. This was not done on HMCS Magnificent as far as I am aware.

She carried several different aircraft during her operational time such as the Seafire XVs, the Hawker Sea Fury, the McDonnell Banshee although these may have only operated from the Bonaventure. For recon the Fairy Firefly was used as was the Grumman Avenger which also covered the ASW duties and this worked in conjunction with the Grumman Tracker. As well as the fixed wing aircraft some Bell HTLs helicopters were seen and some HO4S-2 types.
More aircraft operated from land bases but I won't go into thoise here.

Now working on the Liberty ship from pictures of somebody's beautiful model and the Ark Royal must come out of mothballs for completion. This is a full fleet carrier so larger than the 'Maggie' and that can be seen in the earlier shot of her I posted in this thread when compared with the destroyer alongside her. I must get the Ark into Trainz and see how her size compares.

Thanks for your help,

Angela.

Swordfish.... and not the kind you catch on a rod and line....

So far 2 are ready to go to the TPR site in the usual place.

here is the preserved one residing in the UK...

And another with a wartime paint job

I shall make one with folded wings next so they can park better on the carrier deck.

I will let you know when they are available.

Oh, and talking of carriers and Canadian ones on particular I have realised I could do the Bonnaventure with the angled deck by converting the Maggie, well I think so, but if there is any reason you think that might be wrong please to let me know.

Angela

Thanks to Photobucket for free hosting as well.

Futher to the other 2 planes here is a third, this time the Fairy Swordfish with wings folded back for stowage aboard a carrier.

The other 2 are on the TPR site and they and the carrier have also been sent to the DS.

Content has been approved on both sites so off you go and get them.

I am experimenting with the angled deck carrier at the moment. I have the decks on and almost completely textured but cannot work out what was taken off the area where the overhang is along the port side or indeed if if was moved about. We are talking the ships HMCS Bonaventure here, so any info and details would be a help. I do have some shots but as usual with general photos they are not crystal clear.

Angela

Thanks Clam,
I search and never find any of those sites, you must have a magic touch.

Been working on the Liberty ship, mainly laying things out so the git, hetting heights right etc. But it's now 0238 hours so I should really be in bed fast asleep....

Angela

Good morning Angela;

I see you haven't slowed down a bit! Yesterday, I picked up your Swordfish. Very nice, indeed! This is great for me as I can use them on the Maggie and park them at Shearwater, also. I have not picked up the folded wing model yet.

Funny that you can't get Clam's links. The Bonnie would cover a couple of the light carriers.... like HMAS Melbourne, maybe.

I'm working on the dockyard, it's starting to come along. If, I ever do another version of this route (I can't imagine ever going through that again!), I will include Halifax and the bridge connecting it to Dartmouth. I sort of wiped Halifax off the face of the earth.

Well, I hope you slept in this morning, you seem to be going all out on your projects. I wish I could send you a butler or maid to serve you breakfast in bed, and perhaps slip a "knock out pill" in your drink when you refuse to stop working!

Cheers.........Rick

Good day to you Rick,
It isn't that I refuse to stop... what happens is I fall alseep during the evening when I am supposed to be watching the goggle box and then when I wake I can't get off again. So I turn the PC back on for something to do and before you can say 'squirt my in the eye with a water melon and don't bother to wipe it as the cloth might get dirty' a few hours have gone past. It was well gone 0300 hours by the time I eventually got to sleep and I did that by turning a TV on without sound and put the news on, that's so ruddy boring it sends me off fairly quickly.

I have the angled deck on the carrier but am having a short break from the to do the Liberty ship. That's what I began on this morning during the early hours and it's shaping up very nicely. Nearly all the stuff on deck is done as is the bridge. About to shape the funnel and then it's handrails and they are all over the place so that will take a time. I made three new guns for this ship so no repeats. There was a whopper at the stern, a 4 pounder I shouldn't wonder, 2 x 2 pounders I think above that either side, more light machine guns around the bridge and another 2 pounder or AA gun in the bow. She may be ready by tomorrow night but I go out to dinner on Sundays to my relatives so that will stop me in my tracks.
Have ordered some books on cruisers so they will be making an appearance at some time. Obvious choices are the one that took part in the River Plate action, Achilles Exeter and Ajax, so a choice also of light and heavy. I can enjoy the read when at the hospital as well so the books will serve more than one purpose.

Hi Angela;

Hee, hee. Same here....sort of. I put the TV on with sound. You might get away with turning the video off, but if I've just started to go into a deep sleep, turning the sound off will wake me.

My gosh, if you keep it up, I may have to include the Halifax side of the harbour. Shearwater also had a bit of a dockyard, so I can put a few ships there. The rest will have to be tied up to moorings. I have 7 ships at my dockyard plus 2 subs (room for 1 or 2 more). There's an old wharf along side my rail yard, and 4 corvettes are tied up there. I'm sure back in the mid 50's the RCN was wondering if it was worth keeping them.

Take care, enjoy your time at the relatives, cheers.........Rick

Hi Rick and all ship fans,
Just to whet your appetites a bit, here is the ship I have been working on to nearly 24 hours....

Liberty_02_zpseaf20443.jpg

Yep, the good old American built Liberty ship, although this one is being built in England. A lot to do yet but the poly count has climbed yet again, I can't really avoid it when putting detail in and the rigging on this one is all cylinders although I have cut them down to a diameter of 0.012 and only 3 Faces, but it still builds up. Even all inner Faces have been deleted to try and save a few polys.
Don't know what the file size will be yet but there aren't many textures to worry about so not very big I think. She isn't in Trainz yet, I am pushing to get her done but a headache is approaching from windward so I shall just have to stop for a while, blast it....

Bon appetite,

Angela

PS : Tomorrow is dinner out night, I hope it isn't raining and I can stay awake.... haha.

Angela,

Yet another addition to the fleet! Marvellous.

I hope you enjoy your dinner date!

Rob.

Hi Rob,
Dinner is a regular thing with my nearby relatives every Sunday, that is unless they are away for the weekend with their stalls at a re-enacment show, Andy makes shoes. Sunday is about the only time we canall get together apart from Christmas and New Year as his partner is away all week working so she never visits here and poor Andy slaves away all the hours God sends.
Me? I am happy enough on my own but do now have friends locally from the gun club I belong to, but I don't shoot much during the winter as I am quite badly disabled so the cold weather plays havoc with my body. But my friend Kevin comes round for dinner sometimes if he gets a bit low.
There you go, a short potted history....

Deciding to work on ships and boats has opened up a whole new field of Gmax for me and I am loving it, hence the amount of hours I put in.

So maybe I will solve the last few problems I have to sort out tomorrow on Liberty One and then test her in 2004, 2006, TC3 and 2010 - it takes a while.... haha. Each asset can go to the TPR as a 2004 bit of kit as all my 2004 content seems to work in all version up to 2012 but not including it. I have to make a new config for the latest version of Trainz and then assets can go to the DS.

I almost stopped sending them up when the TC3 support came to an end a few days ago but we did hang on in there for quite a while so thank you N3V for waiting a while on that one.

Should be back on the angle deck carrier by tomorrow evening.

Angela

Which reminds me. Several years ago I created the carrier USS Kitty Hawk, CVA-63, for Shadow Warrior. It is a HUGE add on level fully staffed with monsters.

It's midnight; there's a knock on the door. It's the Welsh nationalists!!!

Haha, yes, slip of the tongue there.... I take your point.

The Liberty ship is done and in Trainz and fully working, well you can put a name on it anyway if you can class that as 'working'. My friend has not tested it yet in 2012 and I have to get it into 2010 as well which I shall do shortly.

Hopefully it will be on the TPR site tonight.

Angela

Updater :- Both models went into their respective versions of Trainz without errors. File size for SS_LIberty_Ship is 561Kb while the dreaded poly count is 30,085, so be warned this is yet again a high poly model, not surprising really considering how complex it is and just how many individual parts there are..

Hello there Angela;

Another looker! I'm on my way to the TPR! I feel better about going there now. Although I never added any content, I did send a donation. Never made their list, you must have to be a heavy hitter to get on it!

Don't worry my friend, spring is on the way! You'd never know it over here, lightly snowing at the moment.

Thanks for yet another beauty!

Cheers.......Rick

I've been keeping my eyes open for the folded wing Swordfish and have not seen it yet. Have I missed it, or are you still working on it? I just picked up the Liberty ship. I have a large wharf waiting for her!
