Destroyer

Here is the 'secret' project I have been working on. Not a warship this time but another craft equally as usueful in certain situations.

Tamar_Class_Lifeboat_zpsbe1dbea0.jpg

This is a Tamar Class Lifeboat, a type found at many of the boat stations around our coast. Again and as always this asset is freeware. It is not up yet nor has it been sent so don't go dashing off looking for it anywhere, I will post when it goes up. The reason is I need the nod from the person I madde if for and once I have that then off it will go.

Hello Angela;

My goodness, do you ever sleep!? I got my Trainz pc back from the shop and I'm trying to get it set up the way it used to be. After that, I must get your ships that I have not already downloaded. I will be using any of them that were around in the mid 50's. I might even sneak in those that were not.

Keep you eye on the mail box. One of the magazines has a photo of HMS/HMCS Magnificent. It may not be much help, but, better than nothing.

You're doing great work! Keep them coming, but don't burn yourself out!

Cheers.......Rick

Hi Rick,
My mailbox buzzed a short while ago (1300 hours actually, so not 10 minutes since) and a package was handed to me through the door.
WOW!!! I cannot believe you have been so kind and the mug and badges are absolutely wonderful. I really don't know how to than you enough but one thought has popped into my head, a certain ship called the 'Maggie' alias HMCS Magnificent.

I have a narrow boat to make after I finish the lifeboat station that is in progress right now and then I will start her. It will take a while but everything else will go on hold until she is done and up on the DS.

Oddly enough while I was at the hospital yesterday (for a check-up) I had a nurse tending me who had a 'different' accent. I asked her if she was Canadian and got an affirmative reply. We talked about the Flower Class corvettes and she proudly stated that the Canadians were quite heavily involved - rather an understatement I think. A very nice lady indeed and she did congratulate me in picking uip her Canadian accent, not many do it seems, most think she is Irish, but there is a very gentle 'edge' to it and quite nice it is as well.

So get that PC up and running for there are more to come.....

Bless you for your kindness,

Angela

Hi Angela;
If you have not received it, there should be another flat parcel with some magazines in it. I just wanted you to realize that people all over the world enjoy your great work. Thanks for sharing with us! Even the wife has taken a shine to you, and she's not even into Trainz.

That nurse could have been from Newfoundland, Cape Breton, or even 20 miles down the road from here. I can't even understand some of what they say! She does sound like she's from the east coast, we're a little different from the rest of this large country.

Thank you so much for taking on the Maggie! Please take your time, enjoy all your other activities. I think she will be a great ship for all of us who need some older Commonwealth ships.

Take care, cheers........Rick

Hi all,
I have been at this all day and at this moment in time it is away being tested for all versions up to and including 2012.

A Lifeboat Station to go with the Tamar lifeboat I made yesterday. I have opened the doors on this model and the boat will fit inside.

Lifeboat_Station_zpsfc3857b1.jpg

Now to do a promised canal narrow boat and then the Maggie.

Angela

Hi Rick,
The magaines arrived about ten minutes ago (1110 hours) and they are truly fabulous. So much info and so much to read and I will spend many hours doing so, believe me, and enjoy every minute of it.
One thing is that there is a shot of the Maggie beam-on which is a much better picture than the ones I have already and it will help a great deal in her construction, a build that is already underway incidentally - I was up until 0210 hours this morning working on the hulls. But they are quite difficult to do so I am still working on them, after sleeping for 6 hours I hasten to add. I have the bitt between my teeth with this one and I think she will be a very nice addition to your and many other people's fleets.
I have more to do to the hulls yet, I say hulls because I make then in 3 or more sections horizonatlly in halves to the mid section line and in the Maggies case I have put the roundowns on as additional parts as well. It does up the polys a bit but is quicker and I believe makes a better job and shape. It means the other lower hull sections can be made more accurately.
Once I get further along with the build I will pop a shot up for you to see and hopefully you will be able to recognise the hull before fitting out takes place.
At the same time I am making another canal narrow boat (no Iterous, I had not forgotton my promise and this one may be a corker having gain a lot more knowledge making the warships. It might even be possible to fit the boat out internally but that is taking it a bit far. I shall mail you an attachement once I get a little bit more work done. This time I have built the boat as 'walls' (bulkheads in the navy) and a hollow hull with a floor (internal deck). Windows will be clear glass and set into Boolean cuts so you can see inside. As you mentioned in a mail there are areas to sit in both fore and aft. I have to guess freeboard as it is never mentioned in any boats or ships descriptions while draught is, a little bit annoying but that's the way it is I guess.
This applies to all warships as well so dimensions may not be exact, I do my best but obviously without detailed plans it isn't possible to build a perfect model. The time taken would outweight the end results I think as well and the amount I could make would be greatly reduced.

So plenty going on still. The Ark is in dry dock as is Hood while Magnificent is becoming, well, Magnificent..!! A nice little narrow boat is also on the stocks so I am quite busy. The Lifeboat Station seems to be okay so that should be going to the TPR soon as I have not had time to do the 2010 (TC3) CDPs yet taking into account the amount of work in my shipyard. In any case the 2004 assets will work in all versions at the moment.

Bless you Rick for a wonderfully kind gesture, the Canadians must be very nice people. If it were not for them and their sacrifices during WWII we might not even be free people now because we had to have food imported which meant running the U Boat wolf pack gauntlet and the Canadians in their little Flower Class ships (that were very wet indeed) and other escort vessels did an amazing job guarding the convoys. Without food coming in the UK would have been starved into submission. We must also remember the US escorts, they did sterling work as well.

So when you download these period ships of WWII and shortly after, remember what they did for us all. They might be gone but never forgotten.

Blessings,

Angela

Hi Angela;

Dang it, I just send my reply into the unknown! (must have forgot to hit the reply, again) I'm going to make sure I have all your ships that are available downloaded before I get back to building my route. I have at least another 2 weeks worth of forest to install. I dare not install your ships yet. If I do, I'll never want to go back to the forest! The ships are going to be my reward for finally finishing with the tree splines. Then I can spruce up Dartmouth and the dockyard. I can't wait to see your ships sitting along side! After that it's back to the forest and "super detailing" along the tracks, if I'm able to tear myself away from the dockyard!

Thanks for all you've done. Don't work too hard. You sure have a knack for building ships!

Cheers....Rick

(Now, hit reply old boy, before you forget...again)

Hi Rick,
Keep plugging away at those trees then and the reward will come soon. I have been working on the Maggie all day and am almost finally happy with the stern of the hull, it is a difficut one to do.

One big problems is that I don't have any images of her clear enough to see where the AA Guns and pods are, so if anybody has this info it would help enormously. The other area I cannot see is the aft area of the bridge, so again and shots would be great. There are things I can do in the meantime so work won't stop yet.

Rick, Been reading your magazines and they are very interesting so thanks again for sending them all the way over from your homeland.

I shall have a break off the carrier tonight and see what I can do with the second narrow boat,

Oh, and I just sent the Lifeboat Station off to the TPR site so hopefully that will be up for download very soon as Robin is usually very fast.

And a big thanks to Photobucket for hosting all the shots that are on this thread; I always forget to put that in so I will now.

Blessings,

Angela

Hi Angela;

Take your time my friend. That narrow boat was on your list first, bang away at that for awhile. I think I have all your ships now, I've been getting them from TPR. I must send some of these sites a little donation, help to keep them running.

I've just about had enough of trees today. I'm saving the day's work. I used to be able to go at this for 10 hours a day. I guess I just have to get back in the groove.

I'll have a little look around and see if I can find any photos of the Maggie. HMS/HMCS Bonaventure was the same class as her, but for some reason it always seemed shorter to me. Anyway, if I find anything, I'll get back to you.

Take care, and stop working so darned hard!

Cheers......Rick

Hi Angela;

Boy it's hard to find good photos of her. The Aussies may have had a Majestic Class, as well. They were quite good at crushing friendly destroyers! Not a laughing matter really, many lives were lost. Perhaps HMAS Melbourne? The destroyers, an Aussie and an American cut across her bow during training manoeuvres (is that how you spell it?). Both destroyers were sunk. Boy, you can learn a lot looking around the internet. Also, you may be more familiar with HMS Powerful, she became HMCS Bonaventure. Something else I just learned.

I have to throw some kind of meal together, before the wife gets home. Don't want her thinking I've been messing about on computers all day! I'm sort of enjoying this "web surfing". I'll have another look in the morning. Now where's that can of beans I've been saving for a situation like this?

Cheer.....Rick

Angela/Rickf77,

Re Magnificent and Bonaventure.............

The Majestic and Colossus class of carriers were almost identical so when it comes to pics you`ve got quite a lot to pick from

john

According to Wikipedia Bonaventure was shorter than Magnificant, I've seen a comment about Bonaventure having a very short flight deck that US pilots didn't like landing on, so that may be the reason, less overhang perhaps?

Hi Rick, my Canadian friend,
The class of ships were known as Light Fleet Carriers, the Colossus Class in fact, and Warrior was one of these along with Glory, Venerable, Vengence (is mine said the Lord...haha), Theseus,Ocean and Triumph.
Magnificent was from the Majestic Class of Light Fleet Carriers that included Terrible, the Maggie of course, Powerful and naturally Majestic as well as Leviathan and Hercules.
So I have plenty to choose from and will have to do a further Internet search tomorrow and see what pops out of the woodwork.

Incidentally of very similar design was the Centaur Class and that included Albion and Bulwark. I remember Bulwark lying just off HMS Raleigh (stone frigate and the induction school of the RN) before she was supposed to be towed off for scrap. What an ignominious end to a wonderful ship.... oh so many memories. I lost track of her but she must have been brought back from the brink because she is listed along with Albion on the navy's site.

I do have a few shots of various ships of the class but they are either far off or not very good quality so I cannot get a good look at how their armement was set up, mainly I suspect in deckside sponsons, I call them pots, haha.

I mentioned a Victory ship in an earlier post, I of course meant Liberty ship and one of these is really a must at some point. I seem to be digging myself into an ever deeper hole with the amount of great ships of that period, where does one stop? Or should one ever stop?
A Cruiser is on the cards as I said, but not yet, I must get the shipyard cleared of a couple at least before another is laid down.

Okay, I will take your advice from the Maggie for a day as I have been working on her quite intensly today and may yet decided to make a new deck section as the present one is not quite right, well to my satisfaction anyway. A fresh section with a bit more thought as to how many individual sections I put within it might help. I have to own up to pinching one of the Arks decks but it isn't working out too well.

My dinner was a bit scrappy, some left over corned beef, mashed potatoes with mixed herbs and cinnamon and a half tin of marrowfat peas. It went down well enough.... Mother would have said it filled a hole up.

Sunday tomorrow, it's supposed to be a day of rest but I would like to finish this narrow boat for itareus if possible. I need to source a sink unit and some cupoards to go inside, the real problem will be getting them there!

Blessings,

Angela

From memory, HMAS Melbourne and Sydney were both laid down as Majestic Class aircraft carriers. HMAS Melbourne was heavily modified during her long lifetime, including adding an angled flight-deck. HMAS Sydney remained much more true to her original looks. She was converted into a troop carrier during the Vietnam war, but retained her profile.I had the good fortune to be part of HMAS Melbourne's crew back in '71, although I must say it didn't seem to be 'good fortune' then. Angela, your work is inspiring, and very collectible. Your work is admired by many. Take care, and enjoy your northern springtime.

Bob (CRO)

Thanks go out to John (JohEwan) for sending me a great coloured pictorial of HMCS Majestic in several elevations, idea for my needs to complete the Maggie for our Canadian friends.

Thanks John, much appreciated.

Blessings,

Angela

G'day Ron,
Give me names (always handy) and I'll see what I can do. They are under Buidlings in the UK Section in TPR, the only one I can find listed when I upload to them.

Angela

HI All;

I have six of Angela's ships, including 2 versions of HMS Ulster and the life boat. Is that all of them so far? I got most of them while they were on the new files list (TPR) and if I missed them there they were in the section Angela mentioned.

Malc, Bob;

HMCS Bonaventure, I believe, also got the angled deck "do over". So, she probably was a little shorter to begin with and being a little wider looking (because of the angled deck) , most likely in my eyes made her look shorter than the "thinner" Maggie. I was too young to remember seeing the Maggie, But I do remember good old mom saying, "There's the Maggie", every time we crossed the bridge to Halifax. I'm just a young pup! In photos the Maggie longs much longer. I'm not sure if Canuks ever tried landing jets on the Bonnie. I think she carried about a dozen planes we called Trackers and a couple of helicopters. Our main job was hunting for subs.

Bob, were you on her for those deadly collisions? Even in peace time, being a sailor can be a dangerous job. My dad's crew were made "Honourary Texans" (something like that) for coming to the rescue of some Yanks. He never told me that story. I read an article about it when he was spending his last days in a Veteran's hospital. One of his old navy buds must have brought it in for him. I was thinking about other things, and the words in the article didn't really sink in.

Angela;

You know, if you don't put any deck numbers on her, she could represent many carriers.

Have a good day, cheers......Rick

As this is a screenshots section I suppose I had better put one in before I get told off....

Narrow_Boat3_zps2037b8a3.jpg

Here is my latest watery offering, the canal narrow boat I promised to do. This time and if you look through the door, you will see the interior is fully fitted out. The craft is off to a friend for testing on a remote PC with 2012 on it so once I get the all clear it will go off to TPR as a first stop.

I have to stop for a day maybe as my eyes aren't that good today for some reason, but I'll be back,,,,

Rick, Yes, I will be putting on the naming option for the Pennant numbers so you can have a fleet. Now I have a good pictorial of her my life will be so much easier (thanks again John). But I have decided to make a new deck section now so that will delay things a little bit.

Blessings,

Angela.

Thank you Photobucket for the free hosting. See, I remembered this time.... haha.
