Dear Auran,

I can make TRS look very much like MSTS very easily. Simply take the same evergreen and use it over the entire span of the layout. Then, make entire baseboards the same texture, but only change it up every other baseboard. Then remove any shrubbery so that desolate plains are in fact desolate planes. Finally, make sure that the train goes over a change in gradient with a very abrupt, sharp displacement.

As for sound, have a look at what some of the foreign Trainzers are scripting!

Must it be a flame war?
I would like you to see what WCL has done with MSTS.
It really depends on what you think I high quality is.
One could say the same as you, about Marias Pass for Train, much of the same over and over.

I agree with you!
I just fell in love with the thunder of the wheels, it is such a comforting sound! I could honestly fall asleep to that!

I think if Auran can, they should jump on some of the MSTS features and perfect them while MSTS is down.
It would be a smart move, in addition to some other good things that would be "Auran Originals", this would give Auran an edge in the market.

"one of the last pleasures of rail fanning"

I really think that auran should have gone the way of attaching the track sounds to the rolling stock, because there is a big differance in sound between a freight train and a passenger train....... and im sure everyone will agree....

You post in a Trainz forum that Auran should adopt MSTS features and then honestly expect no one will take issue with that...? That's funny..:hehe:

MSTS is down?....that's even funnier....:hehe: :hehe: I do like the sounds though...

Back in the day when I ran MSTS I bought this add on sound pack which you can assign to each of your rolling stock that you have and you get several different types of sound to mix in so your consist doesn't all sound the same. Check out the several sound samples. http://www.3d-perfection.com/train-simulator-sounds.html

Now with the cabs, I would except the the 2D cabs in trainz like whats in MSTS now just so we would have more cabs in trainz than whats currently available.

Whatever GP38.
I care not one bit.
I did not start a war, but a suggestion, MSTS2 is down, take a look at the website for proof.
If you have a problem with me, get over it or don't post in my threads.

Agreed with ZapperJet and GP_38-2.

Pointless thread, this was created to start a flame war (was bound to be one as it is). Trainz is Trainz, you will never change that. I like the way Trainz is, so do many others. Yes it needs improvement but it will come from the community and Auran when they work together as a team.

If you want the sounds that M$T$ has, get M$T$. Very simple solution. Stop complaining that they should be in Trainz, it Auran's choice, and the overall community's if something like that should be included in Trainz.

If you have a problem with me, get over it or don't post in my threads.
Simple solution to this problem as well, called the Ignore List option on the forum. I use it.

Cheers,
Adam

I had no intention of a flame war, but rather a decent consversation about improvements.
I wish you guys would understand that.
Why is it so wrong for me to post my thoughts and ideas, yet everyone else can without getting flammed and insulted?
Tell me exactly what was wrong with my first post, what was so inmoral about it anyway?

Woody

Oh God, not this MSTS ranting again. I hated how MSTS looked, that's one of many reasons I came to Trainz. The last thing I want is for Trainz to become mucked up so that it actually looks like MSTS. Why even bother making it look like that? I've seen layouts, locomotives, assets et al in Trainz far more stellar and graphically appealing than anything MSTS has offered, and this would include MSTS2.

As for the complaint of sound not being up to snuff, that is quite unjustified. Sure, Trainz might not have a doppler effect like MSTS, but is there really much else to gripe about? Why don't you take a look at a few of the fabulous electrics that some Russian Trainzers have released? Some of their scripted sound bits include *GASP!* brakes that squeal when the locomotive comes to a full stop.

Don't complain about a problem, find a solution and fix it!

Now see, I have the same graphics complaints as quoted above, however the sound is needed in our game.
But Trainz is leading graphics wise.

If this thread keeps getting flames, please close it.
I'm sorry I spoke a few thoughts...:o

I believe what you are trying to say is that you would like these heavily scripted sound features available in TRS already. I do not believe that is possible, with the exception of default content, which no one uses to begin with. If all content creators were as talented as some of the foreign (Russian, Czech, Polish, Hungarian) ones, maybe you'd get your wish.

Cheerio,
John

Here's an opinion from someone who is a convert to TRS from MSTS:

MSTS physics are better than TRS cab mode(TRS2006 at least).

MSTS sounds are indeed better default, though most of the addons have their own sound files.

TRS is so much easier to edit that it makes the aforementioned issues pointless.

Graphics is no longer an issue--MSTS has almost zero limitations within the graphics engine. Have a look at what can be done with talent and a good knowledge of MSTS tools: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/simracerworld/post-6-1245534758.jpg.

If you run trains and that's all you're focused on, MSTS is better.

If you wish to have some interaction with how your sim runs, and/or want to build your own routes or equipment, Trainz is much better hands-on and is improving every day.

Thank You Robbie!

Good to see someone posting some sense in this thread.
I agree that Trainz is far more flexible, it gives you sort of a freedom to represent the world as you would have it.:D
I also found that MSTS's representation of the Northeast Corridor very poor.
I enjoy Stench707's version far more.
That is another thing, we talk about his route, not the company's, we have a great community here.
I'm looking forward to seeing the empty spots filled in the next few years.
I think Auran is doing their best and I will say that I am a proud Trainzer, I would only challenge Trainz to see it become far better than it already is.
Competition is good, as long as we're in the lead!:hehe:

You just have to laugh at these "trainz should be more like msts" threads, how much like it do you want, msts had its day, its yesterdays, no more, kaput, get the idea, or do you (not you personally Woody) want trainz to be that much like it that it too goes belly up ????????

Cheers David

No we certainly don't want Trainz to go belly up.
However I found the sounds just stunning and was trying to make a simple suggestion to Auran.;)

Improving the sound has been suggested, make that demanded :o since v1.1 and is still an issue, maybe it is feasible to rewrite some of the code to improve sound now that the average computer is a lot more powerful, but that takes a lot of work (read $$$) and could break something else
I also hope for better sound, and have done for just a few years, but you can bet it will only get done (if it is even possible)

1, when Auran can spare the dollars.
2, when competition looks like eating into their profits.
3, when their customer base stops buying and they need a new feature to boost sales.

No2&3 depend on No1 :D

Personally I would like them to develop a 64bit cross platform (windows, apple, linux) trainz, but unfortunately I cannot see them having the money to invest in that sort of development :'( :'(

Cheers David
