Creating a Burning Drum

I wanted to use some burning drums, but sadly I couldn't find what I wanted. So, I thought I'd create my own. I've done stuff like replacing locomotive dependencies and messed around with a few other things, but I've never actually done attachments or that kind of stuff.

I'd like to place a fire particle in the drum, with of course smoke, and possibly have it cast a small amount of 'light'; like a street lamp would do.

Could anyone tell me how I could do this?

Easiest thing to do would be to use an existing drum and place a fire asset within it in surveyor. There are a few different sizes and types of fire on the DLS, the only problem is I can't remember what they're called as it's a long time since I used them. Flame, smoke, fire? Something like that.

I did that on the USYT route I used CAMPFIRE by COWBOY 2:79097:100019:1 and DERILICT BARREL by dinorius_redundicus which are several colors and open tops

*stretch* It's nice to wake up and see multiple replies.

I had some more barrels and fire downloading last night, so I should have all I need. I never would have thought of using a fire particle in tandum with an existing barrel. I thought I'd have to create my own. I hope this works well.

Route Building is 60% creativity with existing assets to accomplish what you want.... the other 45% (yes, 105%) is Butterscotch Rum, though this can be substituted for Kahlua.

I've never been great at routes. Every one I've made is amateur at best.

Also, the fire effect with the barrel works perfect.

Right now I'm modifying Highland Valley Industries, and adding onto it. I guess I don't have any inspiration for creating a route like..... I don't know. I'm thinking I should start a thread dedicated to creating routes, see if I can't find some insightful tips. I got cool ideas (or at least I think so) but I'm not sure how to apply them.

It sounds like your ideas are for scenes? Where as your expectations for route building are for miles and miles worth of simulation? This is just a guess. IF it is the case however, my suggestion would be to just start small. Drop a barrel on the ground and put a fire on it... Then figure out why its there... Is there a homeless bum sitting next to it keeping warm? Is it a farmer burning chaff for his small farm? Is it an impromptu barricade in a war zone? Only you can answer that question for yourself. Focus ONLY on what YOU want to create. If you run out of stamina and its only 1.5 baseboards long, thats fine, its a start. use it as a Module, plenty of other people have done that.

For me, it was finding a DEM of the area I live in. I drop assets where I see them in Real Life, and once in awhile I think about how I would personally change this or that here or there. Mostly I spend alot of time hunting assets looking for things that just have the right feel for an area as I've experienced it in Real life. Sometimes I have to go drive out to a place to GET a feel for it first, lol. This last one is made easy though because I drive all over the area for my work anyway.

Oh, and why create another thread? You want to make a thread about creating routes? You just did!
