Controlling steam loco speed

Hello, just a simple question.

I know this may seem a bit "Noobish" but I'm having trouble controlling the speed of steam locomotives in the game. Every time i try to use one, it ends up speeding out of control, and over the speed limit.

Any answers/Suggestions?

(PS. I run on Trainz 2010)

Thanks.

I may be wrong, but...

Once you get some speed up, you want your Johnson bar (reverser) as close to center as you can get it, while still maintaining speed.

If I'm not mistaken, something like Reverser Forward 8% and Throttle 100% is a good setting, as it conserves steam - on the other hand Reverser Forward 100% and Throttle 10% when already rolling will waste steam/water and make your fireman's life a living hell.

In TS12, there's an issue where the engine spec is not properly written on a lot of steamers, with the result that although they work fine in dcc mode, when you try to operate in cab mode the loco fairly quickly runs away. It would not surprise me too much if you were seeing something similar. :(

Many times I have to leave the reverser on full ( 75%) and the throttle at around 20% to hold a speed of say 35 MPH on a flat route.
