Content Distribution other than DS

Multiplayer Dispatcher
I do not know if this is the right place for this topic or not, but i was wondering if you are able to distribute CDPs in places other than the download station. I have a large route that i am making content for and want the route with multiplayer support. I know for a fact that you are not supposed to package content other than yours in CDPs for distribution.

If you want the route to have multiplayer support, it (along with any multiplayer sessions as well as dependencies that are yours) must be uploaded to the Download Station only.

I really hate to reopen this debate, but here goes.

Uploading a route does not upload the content referenced in the route unless you specifically include the content in the route cdp. the route only has references (or placeholders) for content that's included in the route. If someone downloads a route and doesn't have any of the referenced content other than the built-in content, then those pieces of content will show as missing dependencies.

You could upload a cdp file to an indie site such as Trainsim.com or UKTS, as I did back when Auran had a fairly rigid limit on maximum file sizes. In that instance, people would need to install the cdp initially with CMP then use the feature to identify dependencies and pop these in the L/H window to download from the DLS.

The disadvantage is that if you don't want to pay another subscription at UKTS the free access is pretty much useless and at TS it's throttled to something like 30 kb/s, though there's usually no problem getting access.

For multi player I understand all the dependencies have to be on the DLS and I think that includes the route.

First, all the assets used in building the route and session must be either built-in for TS12 or available without errors on the Download Station. Second, when you choose to upload the route and session to the DLS via Content Manager, you have the option of not including the dependencies in your upload. Simply click "Add none" in the dialog box when you add the route and session to the upload queue.

As others have pointed out, everything needs to be on the DLS in order for multiplayer to work. Also, many people - myself included, with the exception of scripted signals - won't use non-DLS content anyway, since it's a PITA to chase down content (you know, the 'Great KUID Hunt...', lol.) The lengths people will go to to get third-party content varies by individual, but it's prudent to keep the hassle to an absolute minimum.

You can't upload dependencies that aren't of your own making anyway.

Having the MP content being limited to builtin and on the DLS really sucks. It's so hard to find acceptable content on the DLS when you know that there is such great 3rd party content out there. I spent a lot of time looking for rolling stock and other content, for the route that I was building, but I couldn't find what I wanted or was happy with. I finally just gave up and went back to 2010.

Not really - for MP everything on every player's computer MUST be identical, unmodified error-free content. DLS/Built-In is the only way to guarantee that. In fact if it is your own route you have to upload it to the DLS, then download it from the DLS before MP will recognise it...

Most of my stuff is built for muilty player and I did had a MP route it nere worked so I scrapped the hole MP your welcome to fix it.
