Content creators do you encourage or discourage?

Sounds like you!:hehe:
And HIGH STANDERD?!?!

Cheers,
Adam

Well, I didn't impose it but it seems to be proper forum etiquette to attempt to spell words correctly and structure sentences within the rules of the English language. Forum etiquette also seem to dictate polite civil discussions even when parties disagree. And above all show respect to other forum members.

Forum etiquette is difficult to practice and almost impossible to impose just ask the mods.:hehe:

I would prefer people question my work, it usually helps to sort out bugs and problems (for example "why is that spot gray with a yellow line?")

I do however discourage people asking "is it done yet" or "when will it be released"

Life comes before trainz, I have a hard working job now (driving a 22" gauge train at an amusement park), so my previous guesses to when TRL will be released are all wrong. So I try not to give release dates on anything at anytime.

My universal response is "it will be done when it is done and I am happy with it"

No sooner, no later

What if

What if you failed school, but still have a decent job that affords you to buy games like trainz, but when you ask simple questions on this forum and you are put down because of how you wrote or formed your sentance or what gramour you failed to use, instead of trying to help the person who mite not be as computer savvy as you are,i recently asked a simple question on gmax,i did receive help the rest of the comments were just a waste of everyones time by putting me down for how i spoke,if i knew half of what you people know on creating stuff for this great game, then i would have no problem HELPING sumone (as long as they were polite and said please and thank you)and i understood their writing, sum of you need to come back to earth.
cheers mick

I neither encourage nor discourage questions, I'm just glad someone cares enough to download that tras----um, to use my humble offerings.:D
I don't get too many questions and I'm nice enough not to worry over useless trivia like spelling and grammer.
Just remember, there are no stupid questions...just stupid questioners.

Very good point, stresstransit.

Nobody should be put down because of poor use of language, whatever the reason for it. Personally, I do not check where a questioner is from (unless it's relevant to the question). I don't care, and it does not tell me much anyway. I happen to be living in Texas, USA, so most people will likely assume that I am American, but I am not.

Nobody should be put down because of a "stupid" question either. We're all pretty ignorant when we first start on this, and finding an answer via "search" can be very difficult.

But yes, manners are important. As long as a question is polite, I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

In general, people are very polite, friendly, and helpful in this forum. I for one have asked numerous questions, many of which I'm sure someone found real silly, but I've always received very helpful answers.

As for a route, when I release one, or while I'm in the process of making one (as I am), I welcome comments and questions. I just received a comment today, regarding using another track that is more common to the area I'm working on. That kind of comments are very helpful.

Thanks

Thanks for comment jytte,i am yet to get into the route building part i seem to start one then see the great screenshots on here and think mine dont even come close,i'll get there one day.

Hello Mick, that name brings fun memories of "Crocodile Dundee" :hehe:, is that a common name in Australia?

I am building my first "real" route too, but I don't get discouraged by good screenshots, I take it as an opportunity to learn something from them. I also download lots of routes, not so much to drive them as to look at how they are made and learn from them too. And remember, we are building for our own joy in the process, not to "measure up" to anybody else.

Have fun

Don't worry about not being up to par with the people that have them awesome looking routes in the screenshots section, just use them as a sort of reference. That is how I learned(eventually) of how to make good looking routes, compared to my first ones. And everyone that comes here at the beginning seems to be ignorant to some extent, and I was when I first came here, and I know I was when I go back and look at my first posts.

Very well said,I have done the same exact stuff as you have,I think that is how a lot of people learn to shoot up and around the "quality level"

This is a very good point that 'some' should take note of.
This game is supposed to be for your own enjoyment.

If you compare the quality of the first and last route I uploaded, you'll see a sizable difference in quality of track laying and texturing. It takes time to get it the way you want, but doing it and seeing other people's examples are the best way to improve.

Howdy

Howdy again fella's,
i just had the pc rebuilt so the graphics are heaps better now,the differance is unbeleivable, jytte the name mick is fairly commen here i think but poor old croc dundee is in abit of bother with the tax office here at home,i also download routes to see how they do it,i am really keen on the big american/candian routes at the moment, love the big wide open spaces.
cheers mick:cool:

Howdy Mick,

If you like big, wide, open spaces, why don't you just look out your window? They don't come much bigger, wider or more open than down under

Actually, the closest I've been to Australia is on TV, but I really love the "razorback" route. I like the wide open spaces as well, unlike Europe, where you can't spit (not that you would) without hitting your neighbour.

I'm sorry, I think we got quite off topic here.

I would love to show some of my work here, to show that I love it when people inquire about my works...... I haven't been here a year and I've progressed rapidly. It scares me :)

Niiiice.

Do we have an area somewhere, where people can put pictures of their work and get some reactions, comments, questions, advice or what not????

Edit: Uh, we do. You should put this under "screenshot", I'm sure a lot of people would love to see it.

I agree. I don't think anyone is complaining about poor english by someone from other countries around the world where english isn't their primary language. What irritates me is someone from an english speaking country that can't seem to form a complete sentence. Members who don't have english as a primary language may see these poor representations and believe that's the way it's supposed to be spoken. If you're in elementary school, I forgive you, but if you're at least a teenager, you should know better. Speak your slang and text speak to your friends, not here in the forums...please.
Boy, it felt good to get that off of my chest.

I agree too. Since I work in a technical support and customer service environment, I've gotten used to speaking with people from all over the US and other parts of the globe. What I've found is to try to listen or read what the person/customer/user is trying to say and then answer their query to my best ability.

What I will not tollerate is rude and abusive behavior, which seems to happen a lot lately with the younger crowd. I've noticed lately though when someone starts the run-on sentence and babble-slang talk in the they seem to clear it up pretty quickly in the forums here. I think we're teaching them a lesson or two. ;) There's no excuse for poor communications skills in this day and age with computers, phones, and other means of person to person communication.

Back to the topic on hand, I don't mind answering questions about my work, but like someone else said, don't ask me about a release date. My route will probably never hit the DLS anytime soon.

John

I would never mine questions or comments about any of my contents. One learn more what others have to say!!
