consist stopping where it shouldn't

While doing some end-to-end testing of a new route, the consist would suddenly stop in the middle of nowhere. I placed intermediate trackmarks and it would continue to each of them and then stop. As I looked closer at the track to the next scheduled stop, I noticed an out of place junction lever without any associated junction track. Deleted that lever and all is well again.

During construction I must have accidentally added a new piece track and when I deleted it, the automatically added junction lever stayed behind.

I wonder if there is a way to highlight or find orphan junction levers?

You found it. I too wish there was a way to find them easier instead of driving or walking the line.

In my mini map, the junction lever without any diverging track shows three arrows, red left and right and green straight ahead.

I've also had manipulating nearby track send a junction on a cross country hike, sometime becoming displaced by miles.

There was a bug in TRS22 that did that but I think that one was repaired. This was an old bug that plagued TS2010 after one of the service packs. On my very large Trainz route, I noticed all my bridge abutments, signals, speed limit signs, and grade crossing signs had disappeared on a long segment of track. As I went along putting the parts back in again, I came up to a bridge. This bridge still had the bridge abutments, however, there was something odd about it and the signal on the approach to the bridge.

When I clicked on the signal, there was another signal, followed by more signals, and still more as I deleted one by one. The abutments were similar on this side of the bridge, and also pressed up against the spline point for the bridge were all the signs from the other part of the route that were missing. It was as if the route was tipped on end and all the track objects slid along the track to this location on the route!

Ah, I was hoping from the title someone else was hitting the same snag I've got.

My 'working' layout has a section of dual track where trains won't enter. They'll show in the driver control panel as if they are moving, but they won't go beyond a certain point, which isn't a dud junction lever.

If a consist is placed within this area nothing moves.

I've tried replacing the track, deleting and reinserting, changing the track type all to no avail.

Check the driver messages by clicking on the gear located above the driver's image and then the down arrow. Click on show message history. By keeping the message queue open, you'll see new messages come up and remain rather than disappear.

Are you using direction markers? Make sure they are facing with the pointed in pointing in the direction you want to travel. I have made this mistake more than once. These can take time to find because we stare at them and not notice that they're facing the wrong way.

Check junction levers, or if there are tracks that are broken. Go along the track from one end slowly and manually outside of the cab while checking spline points. If the spline points are white, click on them to level the track. Once they're clicked on, they turn yellow meaning the track has been leveled. This also applies to roads and other splines, FYI.

If you want to automate the search process a little, place a bunch of track markers in a row along the route including in the area where there are problems. With the message queue open, go into the cab and then have the AI drive from one track mark to another. A message will appear stating what's wrong such as "Unable to plot route", or "Junction xxxxx missing lever". When you get to a place where the AI won't drive, drive manually and check the tracks. You'll find out soon enough where the problem is.

John, thanks for your suggestions.

Unfortunately, I came across the issue when a signal wouldn't clear for an AI driver with instructions to drive to a track mark on the far side. So, I started testing by creating a new session and driving manually and found even under manual control the consist 'sticks' in this area.

Where the consists stop is along the axis of the baseboard grid, rather than at a spline point. Even laying a new track parallel to the problem ones produces the same result. And it's not the whole baseboard!

As it only started happening after a crash, I'll have to dig out a backup from last week and see what that does.

Thanks again.
