Consist problems

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with multiple consists in 2010EE. I've created a route and a session for the route. There are several consists at the "yards" for the different industries. ie......coal hoppers, grain hoppers etc. Each set of cars, (consist), sits on a different section of the rail yard. I want to couple the engine to the coal hoppers then couple that to the grain hoppers and head out to two different industries. The problem is when trying to couple the coal hoppers to the grain hoppers. They couple and then freeze. I can't drive away with them. If they are uncoupled then everything works.

I also have several caboose on another section of the yard. After coupling the engine to a consist I go get a caboose. The same thing happens.......I couple up and the train freezes in place, unable to move.

Thanks,
Randy

The loco won't move. I can increase the engines, (diesel), but it is stuck in place until I uncouple the two consists.

Couple to grain hoppers then try with 1 or 2 of them and gradually increase the number. Maybe to much weight.

It does the same thing with adding a single caboose. Weight is not the problem.

Thanks for the help though:)

It's some problem with the consist rules I think. Can't find much info on that subject.

Have you tried different hoppers, caboose. Will the locos move the grain hoppers, caboose without the coal hoppers. It could be faulty content, just needs narrowing down to what.

Check to see if the trucks are transparent on the hoppers and caboose. I know I have had issues where if I alt+tab out of the game and back in the trust of some consists become transparent and they will not move. It is is really annoying issue with 2010 as I alt+tab out a great deal.

Never had that problem and I'm forever going in and out of the game. I use the microsoft button never tried alt+tab till I read your post.

Alt+tab seems to be the only way I have found that consistently causes the problem, though it may not be limited to that. It could be my graphics card as well, but who knows. I will try the windows key for now on and see if I get the same results.

I did some experimenting.

2 diesel engines pulling 10 coal hoppers, no problem.
Same engines will pull 10 ore hoppers.

In surveyor, I manually connected 10 coal and 10 ore hoppers and added 2 more diesel engines. The hoppers were from 2 different consists. Went to Quick Drive and they would not budge. De-coupled the first ore hopper just behind the last coal hopper and the train pulls away. I reverse to recouple, going 3mph, instant derail.

In surveyor I made a coal consist of 20 hoppers + caboose + 2 engines. Goto Quick Drive and the train moves.

I don't get it. Should be able to pick any box car, hopper or whatever and haul it to another location.

In surveyor there is the Edit Session in the menu. Lot's of rules to pick from and very confusing at that. I think the answer may be in there, somewhere.

Now were getting somewhere. Check the track, sounds like it's not connected. It may look like it. Put the pointer on the spline points and try to move the track. You'll find one that moves without dragging the next bit of track with it, or a point that's not correct.

Big thanks goes out to Fran1 for finding the problem!

It seems the Coal Hoppers were faulty. They functioned correctly by themselves but would not allow additional cars to be coupled to them.

Everything works as it should now.
