Configuring Portals in TS2022 - [solved]

Remember the Withered Arm
Not experienced this in previous versions of Trainz, but in this 2022 version, on my computer, there is an appreciable time lag (about 5/6 minutes) when you click on a Portal to configure it - rather like the wait when you Edit the Session and go to Add a New Rule. I was assuming the game had "hung" and kept crashing out of Trainz by Ctrl Alt Delete, but it seems to be simply loading up all the scripts. I found that by the time I've made a coffee, the white spline circles are spinning merrily once more and I'm able to edit the Portals. Hope that helps someone!

Are you sure this wasn't just on the first load while all your other content in the route is being precached? Please check again as no-one has reported this issue previously.

Hi Tony. No, it's not on first loading. It is on the first loading of a Portal. Once the Portal has loaded, you can lay and edit other portals to your heart's content. If you exit the game and come back later, you have exactly the same experience.

It's the same as when you "Edit a Session" and you first go to add a "Rule" to the session - there is a long pause while the system crunches through loads of stuff before loading the Rules List. It's not a bug or a glitch - once you understand what is going on and that the system hasn't "hung", you can live with it.
I am working with TRS2022 on an external harddrive (USB 3.0 Western Digital 8Tb Black Edition) and everything else is as smooth as butter.

We're not seeing that here - is anyone else seeing this issue?

Perhaps there is a rule installed that is causing the slowdown? I'd try creating a fresh local data folder and retesting. Assuming that works fine, then it's a case of working out which asset(s) are causing the problem(s).

You could also just try disabling a bunch of rules then restarting Trainz and see if that solves it.

Hi Tony...
Both "Portal" and "Portal Basic" gave me instant config windows. This was with a new test route and portals being the only thing on the layout except some additional track.
Both Portals produced trains. They config'd and worked as expected.

Hi Tony

I have solved the mystery. On both of the routes I have been working on, there are rogue consists which were assigned to the "Route Layer" and were throwing up "AJS Superscript Errors". Once those consists were deleted, the portals no longer misbehave.

I had the same delay. I let Trs22 run overnight and I had trains lined up for miles that originated in a portal.
