Competitive Screenies (Not Dial-up Friendly)

New layout :o But this one will be good.

Granary overpass, in all its glory (i am quite proud of this)

Could any of you guys suggest a name for my layout ? it's set in a country atmosphere, with a city terminal at one end, any ideas ?

Thanks,
Gangsta_Boi

I'm starting to feel that there is no point in me entering as mine will never be as good as that by the deadline. :(

Granary overpass eh? How about Bread and the city.

Matt

CoolMatty, you are a great guy, whilst im not going to use your suggested name, it inspired me to create

*fanfare* Dougherton *end fanfare*

Whilst not totally brilliant, i think it will fit the layout.

Once again, thankyou,
Gangsta_Boi

Very nice GB - I like that bridge it looks properly overgrown :) I know what you mean about names I'm always short of inspiration!

Been adding a bit of detail to the station area at Parton Junction...

I really shouldn't be taking the thankyous here. Without the inspiration from Eso's routes, that bridge would look nothing like it does now !

So, a round of applause for Eso *claps*

Thanks,

I am now really thinking if I should enter at all. Those shots are great: better than my layout. I can't do anything like that:( . Maybe I should withdrw, I'm unsure.

Some from my first session, "Dihydrogen Monoxide delivery," in which you deliver the "dangerous" chemical dihydrogen monoxide to the particle accelerator to be used as coolant.

Coupling to the consist at the chemical plant:

I think you should enter, the more layouts the better. Anyone can make a quality layout it just takes time and patience, and a bit of clever thinking. Plus if you don't enter a layout then you stand no chance of winning :p

I'd be interested to see what little "features" everyone is putting into their competition layouts to make things more interesting, from both visual and operational points of view i.e little areas or bits of trackwork that make it different from the rest. If anything it'll help give other people ideas :) Here are a few from mine.

One of the stations features an incredibly tight headshunt for runaround operations. You can fit a large tank engine in it, but if your loco has a tender, forget it! (I'd like to mention that the AI can actually negotiate this runaround by itself!)

Beyond the station, an abandoned line diverges away from the main line and leads to a bricked-up tunnel...

...conveniently providing a place for locomotives to be refuelled... (interactive of course)

You'll need to watch your speed as the main line slopes sharply down to the tunnel...

...which bursts out directly onto the harbour. To the right is the town of Parton Harbour, and to the left are the beach and the cargo dock...

...which also has some very tight trackwork. Due to the limited amount of space on the quay, trains must be brought in by one locomotive and taken away by another. The original loco can then be turned on the wye. On shorter trains, it is possible to run the loco around at the previous station and shunt the train down the slope and into the harbour area. Either way it makes for some interesting operational possibilities...

My route has some trackwork idiosyncrasies as well:

Old express depot converted to an autorack facility:

Big ol' gantry crane for coal ships coming in from... somewhere.

Extremely tight clearances in the extensive street trackage in Penguinville:

trainz2007-06-1523-24-59-06.jpg

The engine shops of the Penguinville railroad, a shortline that runs local trains in the area, sharing trackage with Norfolk Southern and CSX. In the foreground is the refueling facility:

Badly maintained yet heavily used track (sounds like CSX to me.)

Elevated tram and freight lines downtown:

Elevated rail downtown: (I used the LU stock because I like the looks of it more than the NYCTA cars.)

In order for the railroad to make deliveries to the particle accelerator, local trains have to make a runaround. Because of extreme space constraints and local ordinances, they have to do it at a station:

quite a imaginative layout you got there, like the transit and freight close together, will definetly be downloading when you get done:)
