come on n3v....play the game

I've been receiving auto generated emails from you requesting the upload of assets made by me to the DLS.
I have now done as you asked, so can you please make them available for the price you paid for them?

The reason is, I've now had an email from a user requesting I send some assets direct to them as they haven't got a FCT. It looks like I've swapped requests from you, to requests from the forum. As there are likely to be more of the latter, I think I've done the wrong thing.

I don't like being so negative, so may I suggest that a solution might be to lower the daily download limit.

Also, a recent experience would suggest that the free DLS access might be shared with the game and patch downloads, perhaps that's where the congestion is coming from.

Chris.

;) Am I being the one who don't agree you, Chris?

Of course not, :Y: .

I don't know the price N3VRFail paid for the whole franchise (DLS included) but the DLS creative force labour cost has been close to zero for many years.

Time to show a goodwill action from the new owners: Open up the DLS tap to all trainzers, at different speeds if they want, but opened up to all registered copies.

Please, please, don't tell it is. There are many trainzers not holding a FCT who can't get in through.

If this is true (why not?):

The response to our First Class Tickets has been phenomenal so we have decided to extend the sale on '1 Year First Class Tickets'.
...It's the right time to be generous with the new income achieved, likewise contributing creators have been generous for long years.

It's many contributing creators who are telling. :D

Some solutions have been put forward... i.e.

so may I suggest that a solution might be to lower the daily download limit.
Please, guys from The Prætorian Guard, you know that has been my opinion since all this new policy was started, don't crucify me again: Ides of March are very near. :hehe:

I'm glad to know that Chris (amongst may others) agrees.

Chris, there would be a lot of very happy Trainzers if you would be good enough to upload your creations to the TPR Download Depot, on there they don't discriminate against legacy users & they don't try selling access either.

Most of the things I'm working on include other peoples scripts, and their EULA state that they should only be included if being added to assets for the DLS.

Chris.

What's the exact wording? Added exclusively to the DLS or is it OK to upload them somewhere else as well?

Chris.

Then get their permission first to release it where ever. While I see very little sense in allowing people to modify/re-use assets as long as the new assets are uploaded to the DLS (which basically makes it a non-free license), if a creator really so must know where any chunk of his assets are going, then he can require people to contact him with where the new assets will be going. :o :( ;)

This is the main reason I went to putting my items on my website, to avoid the "I can't download from the DLS" emails. (kinda moot now that the tree project was terminated) with the way the DLS is now, you HAVE to have a FCT to get anyplace because of all the free leeches hogging it up (and this is a GOOD thing because N3VR deserve the money for having it free for over a decade)

The congestion you mention is here..
This http://www.auran.com/planetauran/FTP_Status_Log.php tells the whole story.

What something on the DLS with no restrictions or worries?..GET AN FCT!...and help support the development of Trainz.

Cheers

It looks like you have about a 1 in 3 chance of getting a connection at the moment (if I read the graph correctly). That's better than it was just after Christmas. I suspect that the DLS is probably full of folks downloading content updates, which are very prominent in TS2010, and probably downloaded by some folks who would never have used the DLS otherwise.

I suspect that ChrisW's content uses Bloodnok's signal scripts, so I imagine that the requirement to only upload to the DLS is one he takes quite seriously (as he works for N3V).

Oh, and I've just (finally) bought an FCT - $20AU for a year really isn't that much - I think this might be the last day of the offer IIRC.

When it says "Too many connections on files.auran.com" on the basic server line you will not get a connection to the Free DLS (files.auran.com) unless you are extremely lucky to snag one when someone disconnects (and can beat everyone's auto-login script,CM login or content update login)

The other line (firstclass.auran.com) is the first class server and is never 'full' and if you mouse-over it, it states 384Kbps. (free server states 'login failure' if full and 3.6Kbps if a connection is available.)

It will continue like this as Auran/3D have already stated no more connections or bandwidth will be allocated to the 'free' server.

So beg, borrow or steal mums credit card if you want anything off the DLS. Its now 'the way things are'..

Is a FCT worth it? (set up properly) I downloaded over 340 item in one go at 300+Kbps....you decide.

And it's greedy pigs like you, that overloaded the 'free' server in the first place. :n:

This is not intended to be a moan but just an observation. Trainz still gives me many hours of pleasure. I would also like to take time to thank all those brilliant creators who have made Trainz the best simulator ever marketed. I am a senior citizen on a limited pension and one of the many who cannot afford the FCT. I have been with Trainz since 2004 was released and on limited funds I have bought 2006, tc1&3, TC3 and 2010. I have only been able to log on and download 3 assets since the middle of December. There are some brilliant asset creators who spend many hours creating their assets and are good enough to want to share their work with fellow Trainzers but many of us are missing out because we can’t access the download station. I was frustrated last week when I did manage to log on and download a loco but when I came to download the dependencies I got the server full message again. The FCT ticket might be cheap to some people but I have to decide. Do I purchase a ticket and live on beans on toast or do I keep trying DLS in the vague hope of logging on? I don’t mind waiting for hours on end for an asset to download at the slow speed, when its available. In a nutshell I can only afford to support NV3 by buying each version of Trainz as it is released.

:Y: This one from dear S_H is just a sample of many cases we can encounter in this communty.

That's why some of us -I don't know how many and I don't care, amount doesn't matter at all- are calling N3VRfailing guys to go back to 'normality' which was started to be 'abnormalized' with the life cycle announcement and the new DLS policy. Can we ask a trading enterprise for a little bit of solidarity and generosity? Yessssssssss, we can... when the contributors are people like you and me... non-profit dealers. Just a quid pro quo matter.

I know that reversing business decisions is a hard way to go... but I did think that Auran and its N3VRfailing heirs regarded themselves as much more than a mere leisure software company, which others not so friendly we all know.

Have a good day, guys.

The normal textured side of Alberte

I have had a FCT since day 1 pig. I think you need to look in a mirror. I have NEVER used the 'free' server. So why don't you think (if that's possible) before you bilge. Do you have ANY idea that the FCT server is different than the 'free' server.

Get real you only do this so you can take your toys and go home. And by the way your on my ignore list.:Y:

Yes, I do know the difference, but it still doesn't alter the fact that people such as yourself, who want to grab hundreds of items in one swoop, are a cause of the overloading.
I never said YOU did it on the 'free' server, I just said people like you that use big batches for your downloading.
So think before you spout you ................. "Grumpy Old Bastar*"

If i am not distracting too much from the discussion what is this alternative Download from "TPR" - stands for what or where is it?

I really sympathize with you if all that stands between you and a diet of beans on toast is a $20 FCT. If I was that close to the edge, I think I would have bigger problems than slow connections. Seriously and with no disrespect, you might want to reconsider your priorities. How about skipping a version? Having the latest is all well and good but a FCT is half the price of TS2010. Your version loyalty is admirable but I don't think N3V will worry about it if you do that. I'm happy for you that Trainz gives you so much joy and pleasure, I hope it can continue to do so without having to go on an extreme diet.

Or, another possibility: Learn some form of content creation and sell a product. Make a route and sell it. Or, learn Blender or Gmax and sell some wagons or something. If you do scenery-type items, I suggest making them donationware. You don't necessarily have to start up a business, just make enough to support your Trainz habit, and who knows, you may develop a new hobby as well. Just a thought.

Oh, this is great, RRSignal! You're turning him into a pusher to meet his habit's needs. I can see him now, standing on the street corner peddaling buildings, and locomotives all day so he can download and play all night.

Eventually he'll end up in a ATT (Addicted To Trainz) center, or hospitalized for very long times when Trainz is unavailable due to some technical difficulties!
