Coal Country Update Messed Up

Today the "Updates" tab of the Content Store showed two updates being available: "Trainz Route: Coal Country" and "Coal Country TS19". I choosed the second one as I use TRS19, but once clicked the "Update" button both updates started simultaneously, the progress bars being identical. As usual it ended up with a "View Error" button, but it looks like it installed anyway (old sc444 folders removed and sc444.tzarc written in \packages). Yes, but... now there are missing dependencoes everywhere, in Coal Country and trains, sessions... Total: 2575 faulty assets! What's that mess?

Have you done a DBR? When a package downloads it may also download assets already installed, as it is a package. These will make the assets you already have become open for edit. Just select your open for edit selection in CM and highlight all. Now restore the whole lot to original.

DBR and EDBR had no effect. There are no "open for edit" assets but missing dependencies that the "update" simply deleted. The already installed route showed in CM as "Installed, Payware (not active)" so you are forced to update... once again (this happened for another route some time ago).

I reported that with the SP2 patch. The whole update system is hosed. I fixed mine by uninstalling the DLC packages and then re-installing the package not the updates.

That's what I'll do too (manually remove sc444 folders then re-install the route)... another day. I'm fed up for now!

I find the whole Payware version system confusing. I have a bunch of Payware and built in items showing as Out of Date in CM and newer versions listed as not active or unknown location. If these are updates to what's installed, why aren't they available?.

Hi All
When an update is released for a DLC pack, any assets that have been updated will cause the original ones to be shown as 'out of date' (the same as if the updated asset were released on the DLS). To obtain the latest version of the assets, you would need to install the available updates through the Content Store.

Note that this may sometimes occur with updates that are still in development, as part of the packaging process requires the new assets to be added to the DLS listings. At the current time, we are aiming to have new DLC packs (and DLC pack updates) released much more regularly than they previously were, so waiting times should be much shorter.

Regards

I get how the Content Store scheme works, but you can't download things that aren't in the store to begin with. I have items where the version I have installed is listed as out of date, one or more higher numbered versions showing as existing but there are never any for them updates in the Content Store.

Then why does my Content Manager shows updates for the Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set DLC, PRR T1 - A Fleet of Modernism DLC, LMS Duchess DLC and LMS Coronation Scot and when I go to the Content Store, it shows the option to uninstall all of these DLC?

I tried downloading the TRS19 Coal Country and it started downloading both versions of Coal Country. Eventually it stalled for two hours and had to use Task Manager to end the installation. I ended up with a few missing dependencies, all of which were on the DLS.

I experienced the exact same thing but killed the process after 20 minutes.

It completes the download but then hangs during the install process.

As with others, I experienced a long download / install process. It eventually timed out with an error on both updates. I then checked CM, and saw 600+ assets with missing dependencies. In checking, I found a few hits and downloaded them from the DLS. The big set, which cleared up the majority of the missing assets, were some commodities. Once those were downloaded, all was well. I was saving a DBR / EDBR for a final steps, but never needed to do those.

Also Midwest Grain, shows as out of date, but the updates that show in CM don't appear in the Content Store

My download went OK. Not terribly long, but finished with an error. When I hit "retry" it shifted to "Uninstall", which is normal. But I had a whole bunch of Red ink, so now I am running an EDBR. Will edit/update this post when it is done.

EDIT: After an EDBR, I don't seem to have problems with the Coal Country, However now I have problems with these:
<kuid2:582486:105268:2> DSEPR03 Base Session 2 - DLS ASSETS ONLY - NO AI TRAINS Ver3
<kuid2:582486:105244:2> DSEPR03 Base Session 1 - DLS ASSETS ONLY - AI OPERATIONAL Ver3
<kuid2:582486:101273:2> DSEPR03 HS1 London to Lille Ver3
<kuid:104047:24181> NLcrossing-SrLX3t
<kuid:104047:24159> NLcrossing-StLX1t
<kuid:104047:24160> NLcrossing-StLX2t
<kuid:104047:24162> NLcrossing-StLX60L1t

All of them have assets missing, available for download, but when I go to download them, apparently nothing downloads, as it keeps saying "Available for download". Or, if it says "installed from DLS, the asset still says it is missing dependencies, but there are no assets listed as missing! I tried to do a "Open - Preview asset on one and got a CTD. When I view errors and warnings it says "skipping precache validation as asset has missing dependencies."

I also have these as "faulty" although hopefully they are fixable. Looks like "sidebump texture is missing":

<kuid2:98966:50010:1> 31x68in Rollerbearing Truck
<kuid:156765:1712> Roller Bearing Truck High Detail Clean
<kuid:156765:100216> Bettendorf Truck High Detail (new) Roller Bearing
<kuid:156765:1711> Roller Bearing Truck High Detail Dirty
<kuid:156765:100398> Roller Bearing Truck Wings High Detail Red
<kuid:156765:100286> Roller Bearing Truck High Detail Dusty
<kuid:156765:100451> Roller Bearing Truck Wings High Detail Black

I cannot explain this, but when I ran the update under the "Store" icon (in the upper right hand corner) it updated correctly after running about five minutes. This was after to failed to install when running under the "Updates" icon 60 minutes earlier.

This generally means that an updated version of the asset has been processed by our DLC system. This can occur for a variety of reasons, most likely is that an update may be in development. As this occurs as part of the processing of DLC packs, the assets may appear in the DLS lists some time before the update is released (if at all, depending on the update).

We have made a large number of improvements to the rate at which DLC pack updates are released, but this does depend on the results of testing/etc.

If the update has already been released, then it can be installed either by clicking on 'update' for that DLC pack in the store. Or if this does not correctly install the update, which can sometimes occur with very old DLC packs, then reinstalling the DLC pack by right clicking on it, then click on uninstall, then click on the 'install' button will install the latest version.

N3V can usually provide a process to enable the Customer to navigate their convoluted product/update structure. This will continue as problems develop (understandable) in a dynamic product. However, the multiple steps that have evolved to handle the odd processes have only added to the Customer's woes. At some point N3V has to realize the remedial processes in messages disappear with time. With no means formalize remedies they just disappear into the many messages of the forums.

The hole just becomes deeper as product evolution creates new challenges that need a procedure to avoid issues. A customer's time and patience have value.

Once again, customer problems posts do NOT encourage purchases. This condition usually ends up in stagnation or failure.

I would be interested in the stats on customers who buy one of the base products and then proceed to purchase addons??? That measure is the life-blood of N3V.
