Choosing between TS 2009 and 2010

Good evening for all Trainzers, I like to know what is the right choice for me, if I wait some time until the release of TS 2010 and make my own critic evaluation a choose to buy it or buy right now a TS 2009 copy.

I am working with my TRS 2004 installation since I installed it for the first time and saved it and its content in my external hard-disc to avoid having more trouble in installing and migrating the content and had the advantage of using my Trainz whenever I was and with any PC (with Win Vista or DirectX installed). I had a TRS 2006 copy, but it doesn't install well and the trainz.exe isn't working due to my disc being broken. My DLS license as terminated since I'd registered the TS 2009 Beta development version and most of the new realistic contents like the Banking Consists rule, magnetic joint fixed tracks and 3D spline tracks doesn't work on TRS 2004, so I am determined in migrating all my content from TRS 2004 to one of the two TS I'd mentioned.

Another question, do I have to work all the time with CMP and make commit several times when starting to make a new content and view the results, or can I make a direct install of my content in the World/Custom folder and run Trainz to see then working or not? How can CMP help me when creating new content? Will TS 2010 be as easy to install and edit content as TRS 2004? Can I install TS 2009 or TS 2010 in an external hard-disc and use it where I want, heaven if I have to take the DVD with me?

I am eagerly waiting for reply.

Tiago,

Since your TRS2006 is not working, I'd wait until TRS3010 is released. According to the schedule, if I understand your question, TRS2010 will be available shortly. 16 November for download, and 1 December for boxed copy.

When making content for 2010, like 2009 will require that you commit your content in CMP (CM2). This is the way the content is now handled by the program.

I hope I could answer your questions.

TS2009 does not read the world/custom folders any longer. To have a work flow that is much the same as you are use to in TRS2004, you would create a working folder somewhere else like on your desktop and use it as you did the world/custom folder. When you are ready to test in game you just drag the working folder over CM2 and drop it. It will be validated and any problems reported to you. If there are no problems found then you can check it in the game. If changes are needed then just make the changes to the files in the working folder and repeat the process.

At this point I would wait for TS2010 unless you want the routes that were included in TS2009.

Thanks for the help fellows, I will wait for the TS 2010 release. I am not worried about the routes included but more about the relation cost-quality.

I will use that work method for content creation to make my life easier. Just a last question: Does CMP substitute the folder with the droped one automaticaly or do I have to edit first the Kuid2 on the fixed folder?

Tiago Miranda

When you update your content and install it in CMP you do not need to do a thing with KUIDs. I make a folder named Trains with sub-folders for each new project and import with CMP. You can then make changes and re-import. This is faster than how you do it in TRS4 due to TRS6/TC/TRS9 all load much faster.
