Checkrail.com status?

Just before Andy's site went back down it said on the front page that everything would be back up within 24 hours. EVWR and all of the other routes was listed on there that would be back. That was like last Thursday?

You took my post completely wrong. I was just stating what was on Andy's page for other people. Nothing more.

Sorry about that. I have been reading to many impatient (stupid, gimipig) posts on several different game forums.

Anyways, not all hope is lost on Clovis 3 just yet. There has not been any official statement of abandonment to my knowledge.

The routes from him are, in my view, of professional quality. So many routes are simply track laying exercises with little attention paid to the surrounding environment. As such they may be functional but look so bad I usually delete them after a download and a look. It is extremely unfortunate that we are stuck with low quality speed trees when compared to Andy's rendition of East Kentucky using the famous Trunda trees. I keep TS2010 on my system just to run on that route. It is the only route I have seen that makes me believe that I am viewing a realistic scene.

Since I have no interest in driving trains Andy's signaling schemes allow you to work with complex AI train activities. While trains are "doing their thing" I can jump on one and sit back and relax as the train rambles through deep, cool, tree lined valleys and, outside in my real world, it is 90F.

Andy takes on challenging routes with vegetation, towns and villages as well as other scenic items all based upon reality. Sitting in a virtual cab running a 200 mile route across an endless desert is boring to a high degree compared to a drive thru the towns of East Kentucky!

Checkrail is down again, guys. Care to explain, Dermmy?
First, It has been down for a week or so.
Second, It is called a life outside of trainz.
Third, Please read post 65 in this thread.
I'll quote that post.
You nailed it Nickie, the other guys hit the site while it was totally down. I chose to take the opportunity to totally clean the site up. Over time a lot of rubbish accumulates, old temporary links, old page buttons and that sort of thing. I keep an exact copy of the site locally and a quick rebuild is jut upload the lot, but this time I thought I'd do it right, but the index page was down longer than I'd hoped.

All the screenshot pages are back up and pretty sure everything is working. The downloads will go back as soon as pos, but it's going to take a day or two. I will do my best to honour the '24 hour' promise for EVWR, but it might drag out to 36......

Folks,

I am as eager to see Checkrail back, as most of you are. BUT, and it's a BIG BUT, we need to get our minds around a simple concept. Cheekrail BELONGS to Dermmy!! The routes, the content, the pictures, the site itself belongs to Dermmy!! If he is kind enough to share his wonders with us, great. If he doesn't, that's HIS choice. He owes us NOTHING!! Especially, not an explanation of what he is doing with what is his.

Suppose you had worked many hours restoring an old car to pristine condition, and a neighbor came over and wanted to borrow it, and then threw a hissy-fit because you wouldn't let him!

Let me say it again, I want to see Checkrail back, but Dermmy owes us NOTHING!!

Snip.........Let me say it again, I want to see Checkrail back, but Dermmy owes us NOTHING!!

Well said.. Those of us who have websites for free Trainz downloads do it for FUN. We enjoy making things; be it content, tools, routes or whatever.

Keep in mind that it costs us money to have these websites and maintaining them is a chore that most of us could do without. I've said this before..

It irritates me no end when I see gimme pigs moaning when our websites are down for any reason.

We provide these things FREE OF CHARGE to you the users so we are under NO OBLIGATION to provide continuing service. We do it for fun, and do not need pressure from others who, most likely, have done nothing to enhance the game experience.

Sorry if I sound like a grumpy old man, but I stand by what I say.

Robertbc6

Absolutely right. Well said.

And PEV, I also agree. Amd I'm eternally grateful that some of you are willing to provide things of which I'm utterly incapable of doing.

I'm sorry, but I'm probably not "technical" enough to be any help. My download installed in both TS2010and TS12. You might try right clicking on the file and then choose Properties. Down at the bottom there's a entry for Security that says "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" and there's a button to Unblock it. I doubt that's the issue, but I've occasionally had issues with that for (non-Trainz) downloads.

Robert I truly appreciate the sentiment expressed in your post (and also many other posters) but you are wrong!

I do 'owe' something. Firstly I owe gratitude to the countless content creators who make freeware route building possible.

I owe a huge debt of thanks to the members of the community who have expressed some pretty profound feelings both in the forum and in private over the last month or so.

I also owe the community I so enjoy being a part of something of an explanation:

It seems that every new release of mine is accompanied by a fairly sophisticated attack on either me personally (fake solicitors letters with the release of EK3) or the website both with EVWR and a couple of times previously. These 'attacks' are emotionally exhausting, they effect not just my 'trainz' life, but intrude into almost every aspect. It's a pretty stressful time just trying to get a route ready for release but add the can of worms that got dumped on me this time and it was for a while just all too much.

I just tried a couple of weeks with no Trainz and no involvement in the forum. The 'Cold Turkey' approach. Just up stumps and go.

Didn't work.

I love route building in Trainz - it is the single most satisfying hobby I have ever had. It's more than a hobby, it's a passion. I also love being a part of this community and contributing as much as I can to helping folks who are stuck in what can be a pretty daunting learning curve getting into this thing. I can't quit.

I'm back and checkrail is back. The site is embryonic - exactly three pages - but it includes the new route. If it gets hacked I can put three pages back in a couple of hours - the whole site takes days! It will stay 'embryonic' while I work through my own steep learning curve on a pretty sophisticated defence strategy I have been given. Yep, ‘Given’ - more Trainz community generosity.

Once I am more certain that the site is secure the rest will come back bit by bit...

Andy :)

Ive Downloaded 3 times and it still has the same error

Don't double-click it, drag it off the desktop into an open Content manager.

Sidebar - NEVER double-click a cdp file downloaded from the internet, always drag it into CM. If it isn't a legit cdp it won't install. Double clicking a file downloaded from a site that has been repeatedly hacked is computer suicide :)
