Centralized Traffic Control

Is Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) a feature that is available in Trainz? (see https://youtu.be/MpCsAQuWaH8 )

If not, are there ways that CTC is emulated? For example, I suppose the map can be used as a form of CTC with the ability to flip switches.

How do you play Trainz as a dispatcher, rather than a driver?

I have seen this tutorial about "portals" (see https://youtu.be/rmUHZ6z40Y8 ) which indicates there is the ability to direct trains without driving them.

I tend to have more fun building routes, but you definitely can "direct trains without driving them." It involves setting a list of commands (such as navigate to xxx, and drive to station X). There are commands for just about every phase of trains handling from coupling, runarounds, and uncoupling - plus picking up and dropping off commodities/passengers.

You create your consist, then assign a driver, then issue commands. When started off, sit back and watch them perform.

I am sure someone with a far more inclusive description will come along and post soon.

Although I have not looked into them, there exists interlocking towers and methodology for controlling a great deal of turnouts using commands as well.

Hello,
You can begin by running the "Dispatch" session in Kickstarter 2, the route that came with TRS19. I believe there are actually different methods of dispatching that have come and gone over the years (3rd party methods). "Dispatching" means different things to different people. Some want strict timetables, some people just want to direct trains here and there, some want very elaborate prototypical sessions where industries are setup producing and consuming materials at "real" rates. The best thing you can do is read the posts here each and every day. You will learn a lot about every aspect of Trainz'ing, though it will take some time. I've been "trainzing" for one year (tomorrow is my TRS19 one year "birthday") and I've only scratched the surface.....

The first time I played "Dispatchin' the Action" I played it like as a driver, since there is nothing that instructs me how to do otherwise.

Now, after some poking around and randomly figuring things out (like ctrl-right-click on the train) I think I see now how orders can be given to drivers.

There really needs to be a dispatching tutorial. I'll poke around more and make some notes.

The Trainz Wiki pages "How To" guides (at http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/HowTo) has an entire section on creating Sessions - the part of Trainz that lets you set up automated trains with goals, tasks and missions, etc, etc. In particular, to get you started with using Driver Commands, look at the pages dealing with:-

Depending on how deep you want to go (and Sessions can become quite complex beasts) there could be a long but very rewarding learning curve ahead of you.

I did a rather simple session after only a few months of getting TRS19... But I have done some programming and scripting in the past so I had some experience with understanding some things. By the way.. my session was for Kickstarter 2... you might want to give it a look see in Content Manager

One of the best ways to get into doing a session is to "Edit" a session and then "Edit Session Rules" to see the rules for that session. It was how I got started. My session above is rather simple and straightforward so it might be a good one to initially look at.
