Cars not stopping at crossings? (Solved?)

I know for a long time, some people have had issues with cars not stopping at crossings. I for one was having this issue and none of the help offered solved my issues. I do thank all that offered help as it did help others that read the thread.

About 3 weeks ago, my computer coughed, gasped for air, and crumbled into a ball of plastic and metal. I immediately ordered a new one.

To my surprise, after getting everything up and running, I discovered that all my issues at crossings were gone. Now I might be wrong here, but I believe that my old system could not keep up with Trains and the old system was actually the cause of my issues.

I didn't change anything with the route I was working on. I took the full trip from beginning to end, 2 hours and 15 minutes and over 100 crossings. Not one of them let a car slip past once the warnings were sounded.

I just wanted to share this in case anyone else out there has had the same issue. And again, thanks to all in the Trains community that step forward every day to help others.

This is quite possible.

Remember that all these objects are interactive, which means they are scripted. Scripts are processed by the CPU and stored in memory. If your computer is underpowered, or is having difficulties with faulty components, then the system will have difficulties processing the scripts because the resources are not there.

The issue manifests its self in other areas as well such as AI drivers going bonkers. What's happening is the computer is executing the scripted actions, but because it's being over run with information, the commands are getting confused in the program, and this causes the AI to do weird things. In my older computer, I used to add in wait commands in the driver commands to allow the program to load first in driver prior to running. This helped the AI to settle in and get the scripts running. If they ran out-of-the-gate, the computer would stutter and the route was weird. Some of the issues with the sessions included vehicles not stopping at crossings, gates not going down, pauses, and other weird things such as signals not always coming on.

Hi

I was really interested to read these two notes as I have wondered about this kind of thing for a while. My computer is a 2005 job so no longer state-of-the-art and that's why I chose Trainz 2006 when I was weened off MSTS earlier this year. I felt that the computer just wouldn't cope with later versions.

I've noticed that, whenever I've been jumping around the route in Editor, performance is always worse in Driver than it would have been if I'd gone straight in. Not only that but, if I then come out of Trainz, other little jobs on the computer like collecting emails are much slower too. It's as if the jumping around tires it out or confuses it.

So, really interesting. Thanks, guys.
