Carlsbad Village Station

Hello All

I am currently assisting brendansbiz with constructing the NCTD Oceanside to San Diego Coaster Route - see http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?103934-NCTD-Oceanside-San-Diego-Phase-1-Amtrak-Coaster-Sprinter/page3
I am attempting to make the scenery as accurate as possible within the constraints of scenery objects available on the DLS. I am about to place the Carlsbad Village Station and am trying to locate a station building that is similar to that of the actual station building - which is quite unique (see Google Map photo below). I can construct the remainder of the station from existing DLS resources and will likely use one of the AJS Invisible Stations to underlay the platform construction. It is a low platform and I would appreciate some indication of its actual height (we don't have many low platforms out here in Australia).
Many thanks in advance
Regards
Bob

My local station! There's a covered bench on the platform that's a very nice spot to eat lunch and watch the trains go by. It's almost eerily calm between trains.

Anyway, the platforms aren't very high at all, as with all NCTD stations. Maybe even less than a foot higher than the rails.
I found a photo where you can use the Coaster's BBL cars as a reference for a rough estimate for now.

Ah! And here's the bench I was talking about!

Thanks for those hauntedclipp, that gives me a good perspective, I will make sure your favorite seat is included (although it won't look exactly like that)
Cheers
Bob

I found a station that resembles Carlsbad Village Station. However, I could not find shelters that match, so there are some differences. Brett is sitting on his favorite seat:D

Very nice! Certainly captures the general look of the area. Nice work!

Just a couple of things, though.
Near the south end of the platform, there's a small ramp and platform with railing that allows wheelchair accessibility for the BBLs. And south of that ramp close to the street are some bike lockers.

And an interesting thing I discovered when I was a kid: there's a stretch of abandoned track leading from just north of the overpass north of the station that almost reaches the end of the station platform. It has a short bit of track that switches away from the line and ends in the dirt embankment immediately on the east side of the tracks under the parking lot's extension. The track is all rusted and mostly sunken into the dirt.
I found out that it's remnants of the double line that used to go through Carlsbad, which explains why the old wooden Santa Fe depot south of the station is set so far back from the tracks and why the tracks aren't centered under the overpass north of the station. There used to be another track running parallel to the current line on its east side.

And I actually look the guy standing next to the bench, which actually makes a lot of sense. If someone's already sitting on the bench, I'd feel kinda awkward just plopping right down with him. So I wait around til the person leaves.

Do you mean these tracks Brett? I'll build the ramp and see if I can find some bike lockers
Regards
Bob

Wow, you've got this down. :p
Here, I've found some (rather small) photos of the wheelchair ramp. All NCTD stations had one on each platform.

Here are the ramps at Carlsbad Poinsettia station for future reference:
Carlsbad_Poinsettia_NCTD_station12.jpg

Most of the ramps at NCTD stations were double-ended, with ramps going up either side of the raised platform. Carlsbad Village is one of the few stations to have a single-ended ramp.

And here's the old Carlsbad depot, just down the tracks from Carlsbad Village station:

To show off just how far back from the current line the depot is.
