Can't start Trainz Simulator 12, looking for some advice

Starting this past week I can no longer run Trainz. I purchased and run this from Steam, and it had been running just fine for a while now.
When I launch Trainz I get a bunch of taddeamon windows popping up, then a Trainz Error message box "Cannot open Trainz asset database, is it recommended that you restart your computer...

According to jetlog.txt, it appears that I have an invalid username or password for Planet Auran? I don't know where to enter a username and password.
I have restarted my pc, and deleted and re-installed Trainz.
I am running 64 bit Windows 8, but, like I said, trainz had been before this.

Does anyone have any ideas what might have happened, or suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks for any help,
Mike

without you not owning a legal copy of trainz, i daubt you are gonna get any replies, you need to first register your trainz 12 game, people don't look at piracy too good here, not that i am saying you are.

Until the serial number is registered, I am only giving advice on how to register it.

Click Planet Auran, then Serial Number, then fill in the form.

This isn't a pirated copy, I bought it on steam, but I guess I didn't register it. When I double click on launcher.exe (there is no other launcher that shows up in Windows 8) I get another Trainz Error message box.
"Cannot open Trainz asset database, it is recommended that you restart your computer..."

I am kind of stuck. I have the keys, but apparently I ran the game too long without entering them, and now nothing runs. :(
I registered the serial number via the web, apparently successfully, I got a voucher for some additional content, but I still get the same popups and error message.
Thanks for any help,
Mike

I have seen that one before - check the <trainz install folder>/Bin/Jetlog.txt (The Trainz install folder is somewhere in <Steam Install Folder>/steamapps/common in your case).

For some reason I have had to re-enter my password several times in Content Manager and on the login page to N3V. I vaguely remember someone from N3V saying that not all data is on the same set of servers and there have been synchronisation problems. I did change my password a while back after thinking it had been hijacked.

So, in answer to the OP, maybe try re-entering your username and password. Eventually it will stick.

ps. those errors at the start of the jetlog.txt file have been cropping up since TS12 (original). Whatever they are, it doesn't seem to affect the game.

Solved it!
Thanks for the tips, I was able to enter all the keys via the web site. The next time I started up steam it re downloaded Trainz (don't really know why). Now everything is running again!

I think I heard somebody somewhere say that if you buy Trainz from Steam, you'll have problems.

I wish I could help, but I can't.

Can anyone help me with my problem? I'm running windows 10 and when I try to open trainz, it says its running for a second then it disappears. Can anybody help me? It's had the issue before and it went away. I don't know what I did to make it stop doing that either. But now it started back up like 10 minutes before writing this

Right-click and choose run as administrator and see if that helps.

In the Options, ensure you are using DirectX and not Open/GL

Download DirectX 9 from Microsoft.

The reason for this is eventhough you have DirectX12, there are components in the older versions of DirectX that are not found in the latest implementation, and without these additional parts some programs don't work properly.

I recommend registering your program, or if you are registered use the correct account when logging into the forums. If you forgot your password and created a new account, contact the Helpdesk for resolution. Not showing a registered version means that you'll receive less that full support from the community.

Welcome to the forums. First contact the Help Desk and get your registration straightened out. This will ensure you receive the proper support and will have access to all forums including the specific TS12 forum.

These aren't errors and only show what's going on when the program runs. This log is showing that content was downloaded and then the older, meaning stale data, was cleared. It's a good thing this stuff is cleared because by not clearing the cache-files, you can end up with a clogged disk.
