Canadian Rocky Mountains 2011

Thanks Bob,

The information is helpful, and puts a perspective on the big picture, as I know next to nothing about Canadian RR operations North of the 48. I did a Goggle and discovered that in Alberta & British Columbia coal mining, and some copper & molybdenum mining and crude oil from tar sand are some of the resources that may be rail transported. As for agriculture, they ain't to much, potatoes seem to be the major crop.
On Roy's route, would Golden be on the Western end of the route?

Thanks,
John

Morning all,

about east and wet here is my explanation where Golden is in my routes/subdivisions.
entire project is like this:

Vancouver to Calgary.

1 Vancouver greater area (projected 2016-2017)
2 Thompson Subdivison (2016)
3 Sushwap Subdivison (2015)
4 CPR Mountain Subdivision (dec 2012) Golden located on the E-side. this Sub has as an extra 3 smaller separate sub sections offered named Rogers Pass,Columbia River basin and Kicking Horse passage
5 Laggan Subdivision (2014)

@Johnny, in your route section Kicking Horse xxx Golden is west as this route part is one of the 3 in one in the entire CPR Mountain Sub.

Roy;)

I've found Google Maps (maps.google.ca) quite useful in orienting myself on the route. Ask it for Revelstoke, BC, and the rest of the significant points on the route are within a click or two of magnification. :)

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

Hi folks,

If you travel east from Vancouver CP & CN each have rail sub divisions (subs) that follow the Fraser River all the way to Kamploops (about 1/2 way to Calgary). The two companies have agreements to use the other network should there be a failure such as an avalanche or breakdown. At Kamloops the two rail systems diverge. The CP rail continues east through to Revelstoke, Golden, Banff, Calgary and further east. The CN route heads further north east to Jasper then east to Edmonton & beyond eventually ending up in Nova Scotia. Both are very important freight routes and you can pretty much see any type of rolling stock on either route. There isn't much industry through the mountains but you can run all kinds of rolling stock on Royz Routez. Not to discourage, but you won't see too many CN locos on the CPR sub or anywhere between Kamloops and Calgary. There are CN trains in Calgary due to a link north with Edmonton.

Passenger services.

The Rocky Mountaineer is a company that is independent of CN & CP. A single train runs from Vancouver to Kamloops. During the overnight stopover the train is split in half & the front half continues to Calgary via Banff on the CPR subs & the rear to Jasper on the CN subs. Obviously west bound it all reverses.

Via Rail is affiliated (or owned by?) CN and travels on CN's subs. The Via Trans-Canada train uses the CN equipment from Vancouver to Kamloops then takes the northern pass to Jasper. It also continues all the way to Nova Scotia.

So again, not to discourage, you'll see the Rocky Mountaineer on the CPR Sub, but not Via trains.

It's Royz World so do what you feel you want to. I just thought it would be worth putting the facts out there.

Just a few quick additions to what Rob725 said:

In terms of VIA service on CP, Rob725 is correct that VIA trains no longer operate on CP tracks. However, VIA is not owned or affiliated with CN. In fact, VIA did operate on CP tracks for many years until 1990, using mostly the same equipment they currently use today - including the coaches currently owned by Rocky Mountaineer. In fact, VIA created the Rocky Mountaineer service and operated the train for several years before it was sold to a private operator. So, if you want to run VIA trains on Roy's route and still be prototypical, you just have to pretend it's 1989!

Also, it should be noted that the directional running agreement in the Fraser Canyon is in effect all of the time between Mission BC and Basque BC, not just in the event of an issue. Normally, eastbound trains run on the CP and westbounds run on the CN. Trains return to their "home" tracks outside of those areas. So, when Roy releases that portion of the route, there are a lot of different options!

All MAC users your attention needed for a new customer in despair MAC Pro

Hi there,

Well this is the first time i cannot assist a user in getting his CPR route up and running and how to install all downloaded route and deps files for a MAC.

As i not have a MAC i simply cannot advice and tell exactly what to do so rely on other MAC users who have the route up and running and know how to install flawless and fast.

So here I am with my first customer ever I cannot help straight from here...... ouch.:o

i know we have more than a handful MAC users and so far none of ALL the users ever complained they could not dl or install and run the route.

Your help most appreciated.

This user has Apple's new "Mavericks" OS on a new Mac Pro..

thanks anyone out there wanting to get this gentleman on the tracks to enjoy Roy's Trainz world.

Cheers for filling in the gaps and the corrections. I really should have paid more attention to the tour guides on the Rocky Mountaineer instead of admiring the stunning scenery going by... Glad to see I got most of it right. I'm far more familiar with the subs between Field & Calgary.

Hey all, lifelong Alberta native here. Just wanted to say that you really nailed it on Banff there Joosten. I've been there more times than I care to count & it looks just the way I remember it. :) Keep up the good work.

Good Morning all,

thanks Warhorse for the great shots! Hope you all do well.
John it is fun to discover the Rockies even in this thread each time I look back I say to myself well done under the circumstances with all the trainz versions and its ups n downs.
Cameron97 thanks for the post and yes as good as one can simulate the impression of the region with what is available and time...time...time, but not to long we can drive thru this section and another milestone accomplished and on to Calgary to finish before the year end.

Thanks John and Roy for the compliments. I really can't take that much credit for them, though --- pretty much any picture you take anywhere on this route is going to be a good one! :)

Hi Cameron and Spanderson, all,

Me too can't wait to get my hands on that part but first things first and get the 1st section on track and the daunting amount of detail I put in there takes time to make it all work. i do/did this all in anticipation of Trainz a new era even before they officially announced it so now knowing it will work I can go ahead and Canmore is the next little town before slowly leaving the mountains behind me and rush:hehe: to the east.
You will love it and i did already some stuff around Calgary over the years it will be stepped up a few notches now even better than before so relax and enjoy my routes delivered. It is just getting better "learning by doing".

Concerning the TS MAC help Mike946 needed another Roy's Trainzer friend Hkoster1 is on to it and guide Mike to get his things sorted out and soon be running the CPR mountain Sub on his new MAC Pro.

Hope you all do well and enjoy the week. Wednesday i go back home for a few days to see Ning and djoetje.

regards,

Roy:wave:
