Can I import height maps in Surveyor?

I'd like to make a huge route in North Dakota, but to make the flat but sometimes sloping terrain with the brush tool is virtually impossible. So my question if there is a way to import height maps (grey scale) or other means to do so? An answer to help me would be greatly appreciated!:D

There is also Microdem + Hog which is free and achieves the same thing though not as easily. Although I have used it with no problem.

To answer the question of just using a height map, for 2010 you install it in Content manager as a Displacement - Search CM for displacement and open one for edit and look at the config / bmp file for an example.

Tutorial in pdf form in here, http://www.uktrainz.co.uk/faq/Displacement_Tutorial_0.1.pdf

but note that the height map is now installed, as above, as an asset in 2010, other than that is should be the same.

Thanks for the replies.:)

I just found a website where I can download trerrain only maps for Trainz which I import and can play around with!

I've been using Transdem Trainz edition for several years, and love it. Recent upgrade now works with TS2010_SP3 and layers.

I get my DEMs from the USGS at http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/viewer.htm, but have found that selecting an area to DL with their selection tool is a bit flaky, so I now use coordinates instead.

I use Google Earth to get the .jpg and .kmz files to create the geo-referenced files for creation of raster maps.
It's a multi-step process, but I have a lot of fun with it. I have learned quite a bit about the railroad system in the northeast US by doing this.
