Buying new computer, data transfer question

I am buying a new gaming computer and considering a Lenovo C730 with Nvidia RTX 2080 graphics. Will I be able to transfer all my data using a thumb drive? And will I be able to re-install Trainz 2019 without paying for it again? New to Trainz, but really enjoy the sim, and the Forum has been great at getting information. TIA,
Bob Burke

Launch your game. Click on Trainz Settings. Click on Install tab. Look for a button that says "Instruction for moving your content" which takes you here: http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/Help:Moving_Content

You basically install a fresh copy of TSR19 on the new computer then copy your data folder from the old to the new. You then point the new install to the "good" data folder.

Thumb drive? That depends on the size of your data folder and your thumb drive. You don't have a second hard drive or SSD installed for backup? If not you should consider doing so. Disks are cheap and you'd hate to lose all your data wouldn't you?

Enjoy TRS19. There is a lot to learn. Been here for a 14 months and still just scratching the surface so to speak. Best advice I can give is to read the forums every day. You will learn a lot. Some will be way over what you need, but it's all good be be aware of. The Wiki is your friend (see Wiki tab on top of forums page). It's hard to find stuff but I use a Google site search with good success. Just replace TERM in this "url" to whatever it is you want to search for. I use the wiki so much I set the following line up as a "typed text" HotKey.

Code:

I will caution you about thumb drives... They are quite slow for copying and large amounts of data, and tend to die unexpectedly (They can become WOM drives - Write Only Memory!). You are better off getting yourself an external hard disk such as a 4 TB drive from Seagate or Western Digital. These are much faster, more reliable, and you can use them again and again for data backups.

Thanks John. The new computer will have lots of storage, but I do want to get an external HD for backup.

I have been looking at all the great videos from Collins Trains, Approach Medium and others, and checking out the Wiki 'How To' - all great resources.

Hi,
If you look in "My Trains", you'll see "My Downloads", you can install the main program without problems ( you'll have to re-enter your username & password).
The easiest way to move content is to save your favourites as CDPs, then import the. - you'll need to re-download the dls content.

Thanks Colin; lots to learn here.

No problem - usually, someone else has had a similar problem!

IIRC, your licence allows you to have Trainz program installed on more than 1 pc - provided you only run 1 at a time.
I had a problem a while ago that required a complete windows reinstall, and loads of programs.
At present, I'm only using TANE and TS19 - the others are in limbo (dvds).

Enjoy,

Colin

Enjoy,

I'm using a Dell 15" laptop which is totally insufficient for Trainz 2019; that's why I'm getting a new computer.
