Building a route on two different computers

Slave to my route
I'm building my route on two different computers, the laptop and the desktop and I have a small but annoying problem, skipped previous instillation :n:. I find I have to delete the route then install the updated version. Is there an option to overwrite previous installations so I don't have to keep deleting the route?

Right-click the item, select "Create new Version". That will not create a new kuid, but adds a number behind it so it is still related / keeps track of previous versions but does become a new asset with all links to dependencies.

Well, let's say your installed route on your desktop has a kuid of 2:XXXX:25001:1. Your laptop has that route installed so you can work on it while riding the local roller coaster, and you have made many changes. So Open for edit in explorer and change the kuid to 2:XXXX:25001:2. When you take that out and put it on your desktop it should overwrite/obsolete kuid 2:XXXX:25001:1. The you work on it on your desktop, finish, save and the Open For Edit in Explorer and change the kuid to kuid 2:XXXX:25001:3. Then when you take that to your laptop and install, it should overwrite and obsolete kuid 2:XXXX:25001:2. Then when you....I think you get the idea. Or, you can as Oknotsen has suggested.

Actually, the more backups, the better, so I think deleting old versions is a small price to pay!

A bit of a warning here - there is a maximum of 127 revisions/versions possible in the KUID2 system for a particular KUID2 number before a new KUID/KUID2 number has to be used.

Shane

EDIT: It may be 128 depending on how the number started.

There was once a warning posted not to use the version number 0 (zero) as it was suggested that Trainz would interpret this as 127 and no further revisions would be possible.

However, in my early days I used 0 (zero) and have found no problem in moving on to 1, 2 etc. So perhaps the warning was misleading?

That warning still stands. Using 0 as the version number is still interpreted as 127, and as I stated further up, 127 is the limit.

Anyway, if you wanted a version 0, simply use a standard KUID number.

I could be wrong but I thought revision '0' was OK and it was the absence of a revision that gets assigned 127?

<KUID2:123456:789:0> is OK but

<KUID2:123456:789> gets interpreted as <KUID2:123456:789:127>

Anyway that's almost OT, but @OP - the only solution I can think of is manually updating the revision number as has been suggested...

Why not just save your new updated work to a CDP and place someware (My CDP"S) you can then transfer it by USB to the other Computer and install it over the Map thereby keeping them both up to date.
I am working on a map on trs10 on the desktop and the same map on Ts12 on the laptop, that way I'm able to test it for compatability.
But of course I don't reverse the process IE from Ts12 back to TS10.

Good points guys I guess I'll continue to delete the previous and replace the routes with the updated ones and save the old CDP files. After losing my previous route due to a bad asset.
