dutch us convention - model building

.. based on my vision for combining real-world model building with a simulation game, like trainz, i'll be giving a demo at this convention .. i'll keep you updated on the progress of building my very first real-world portable diorama :
- it has to be a presentation on one table: 1500 x 750 mm (quite small for me ..)
- us style .. (i like that)
- there must be something (able to) driving .. (no problem)
- preferably with a high level of finish .. (oops) ..

intention : only use what i already have .. so, no new purchases ..

---- somewhere in 2021 i showed my vision here in the forum .. now i have to build a transportable one to show on the convention ----

Looking good. You are the master of dioramas, so I am sure it is going to look great! Please post a photo of your diorama on display!

the diorama-plan i have for the convention :

- the blue tape gives the measurements of the presentation-table
- 2 cases : left is a media case for the grandchildren when we are on the camping ..
- in front of them comes a peepbox : for the children, to find a specific loc given on a card ( made from parts of my previous tracks )
- 2 screens for the animated scenery by trainz ..
- a plywood sheet is placed on top of the suitcases + peepbox ( from my stock .. )
- underlayer of insulation material

- track plan with existing roco geoline
- filling in the scene

topic : recycling
- on the right you will find the junkyard / loc cementery .. ( i really have a lot of junk )
- and on the left you will find the production of volvo redundicus ..
- a factory building will be placed in the middle : walthers factory ( i have this kit already many moons .. )
- on the screens the scenery of my trainz dioramas ..

factory :
- i want to cut the factory and glue the halves on top of each other .. or something like that ..
- from behind i want to show some lighting effects that simulate welding and / or steel making ..

rust brewery :
- i need some rust for my scrapyard so i make it myself with steel wool and natural vinegar :

.. from gray plastic to rust buckets .. (ingot mold + buggy)

You are quite resourceful! Your work is looking good. In a way your diorama reminds me of the groups that built modules that could be assembled together to make large layouts at conventions. A friend was involved with NTRAK -- N scale modules.

Way off topic: I love those off road dump trucks. Give me one of those and a large loader and I could get county officials really concerned by moving too much earth. No certainty that I'd actually be improving things, but it would be fun.

peepbox :
.. imaginaging with flashing lights and graffiti .. kidz receive a card with a picture of a loc, which they have to find in the peep box ..

mow-equipment :
.. weathering with self made rust ..

asphalt the site :
.. i was hesitating between asphalt and concrete slabs (stelcon) .. the concrete slabs weren't really satisfactory and I liked the asphalt much better and much smoother ..
i used different grades of sandpaper, crumpled it up, peeled the paper off to thin it out, and eventually used water to thin it out even more by rubbing off the remaining layer ..

barrier tape :
.. to cordon off a work under construction, i made a kind of "tape" by using a thin, white shopping bag, drawing lines on it with a red marker and then cutting it into strips...

.. have nice holydays, a safe yearjunction and a healthy life .. cu next year ..

.. for the 2 main displays i created promovids which will been played constantly in a loop ..
.. for the ipad in the peepbox i will create another one ..
